Neptune's Photo Challenge
« on: January 25, 2012, 07:10:35 PM »

Remember this challenge? I forgot to keep it going over at our old boards, but I thought it was interesting enough for a revival.

Basically what I do is post a picture of a car IRL, and you guys try to come up with the closest match you can get, in GT5.

I'll try and do one every week.

...um, does the photo of the real car applicable if the one who took it is also the one shooting the GT5 photo?

Whatever, it's just for fun. Just post pics of real cars or try to match some that have already been posted.

great idea!

the great thing about this is that it will teach us to mimic angles and envoke emotion with photography more than merely taking screenshots.

sometimes photo threads are just full of shots of "hey watch this jump I did" and it usually isn't very artistic.

so I guess my only suggestion would be to have the photo of the week be a photo taken by a skilled photographer.

i think you misunderstood.   the photo you already posted qualifies as one taken by a photographer.

Aye.

When comparing the two shots, the GT5 car looks quite accurate. I don't know if one image is stretched or not, but the PD version looks lower and wider. One thing that's off for sure is the ride height. The wheel gaps are way off. Come on PD

One thing I'm impressed with is the lighting. I tried to get the sunlight hitting the car at the same angle, and you can see the reflections mimic the ones in the picture. You have the same line down the side of the car, and the same spots on the bumper are dark/light. Very cool.

yea I thought yours was very close too, though I did notice the ride height.  an even blacker-er paint might have gotten closer too.  was this the stock ride height you had in a car fresh from the dealer, or did you perhaps add a sports or another suspension?

curious why PD wouldn't have gotten it right...

If you can all get to this album, and you should as I just checked and it's public, here's some more "source" photos for you, taken by (I believe) a friend of Valrik's.
