Title: TuTu March 26 2013 - A New Kind of Shuffle
Post by: TheHotstepper on March 20, 2013, 12:23:03 PM
We're running a shuffle race, but we're not actually setting it up as a shuffle race. Instead, you get to pick your own car - so there can't be any bitching about getting stuck with a loser! WRINKLE: YOU MAY NOT RUN THE SAME CAR TWICE ALL NIGHT. You must change your car between every race. No repeats!

Car: Whatever the game gives you!
Setup: Oil change. Paint. Wheels. Go apeshit!

Restrictions:
PP: 440 max (you may run anything lower)
Tires: Sports Medium
Lounge: TuTuTuna
Shot clock: 4 minutes (no testing time... pick your ride, lower the power, and go)
Tuning: Prohibited. Power adjustment only.
Opening Track: Motegi East (if that's a real thing). We can change often.

Remember: a different car every race (and not two different colors of the same car: you can run a '90 NSX and a '95 NSX - but not two different colored '95 NSXs. Make sense?). New car. Each race. Tuning will be set on prohibited, so if your car has something done to it where it can't get in - tough. Pick something else - there should be about 500 cars eligible for this event. If you can get a Ferrari F1 car to 440pp, then by all means, run it. Race cars, road cars, prototypes. Anything goes. Just don't try running the same thing twice. I'll keep a list if I have to.

Cool idea.

Do same year cars count as same car when name is different?

Hypothetically speaking, is an '03 RX8 (EU) and anb '03 RX8 (NA) considered the same?  Or what about cars that have both Premium and Standard models (e.g. '54 Mercedes 300L)

(Pulling answer out of my ass): The RX8 example would be two different cars. The 300SL would be the same. Hopefully it won't come to that tho

Many thanks for the kind offers. But my usual plan of adtion for tuneless event is to buy the car and sell it when i am done for the evening. Currently my whole garage is devoted to track day cars afterall i am not commuting in any of these. So buying severl cars for the one night hardly seems practical. Again thank you Dude and Charlie.

Could have sworn I'd commented on this before now but apparently not, maybe I was just thinking of a reply but never actually posted.. it's all in my head :D.

Anyways, I really like the idea of bringing our own shuffle cars and I think it'll be a blast to see what cars everyone will roll out!  The only minor drawback I could see is maybe running out of available cars to use after a finite number of races, so it might be more logistically plausible to have say a limit of maybe 10 or 15 different cars and you can't run the same car again until you've used them all.

Just a thought, either way I'll be there with a bunch of cars :).

There are about 500 cars (or more) that qualify. You can detune a Miura to the specs. Or a GT500 car. GT350. Unfortunately, we are limited by the bounds of time and will probably not be able to get 500 races in before the night ends. Maybe 20. Maybe.

Oh, and I'm guessing (unless you have a known sleeper to bring) the best route is to start at the top of your garage (sorted by pp) and grab the first car closest to the top you haven't used yet, lower the pp to the specs and go. Lather, rinse and repeat.  :)

I'd like to try to make this event. What time does it start? 9pm EST? Also, I see that power reduction is allowed to meet the PP, but what about power upgrades to get to 440? I have a full stable of different Miatas I'd love to drive. Doubt they'll be very competitive. But it would still be fun to drive them. Don't remember if I can get them to 440 or not here at work. I'll look when I get home.

I believe tuning is prohibited, so power slider down is only option.

Ok, counter offer ... what if the Miatas are restricted to 430PP? Eh?    :-\

Sorry! Power slider only... the next shuffle will have a different pp and Miatas might be eligible then. You can still drive them if you want, the pp above is just the max. Anything below it is fair game. But tuning will stay prohibited.

And I'll be on by 7:45 pm EST if not a little earlier. Hope you come race anyway!

I regret to say I will not be able to make this event, I simply have too many cars that have been modified and not enough cars that have not. Sitting there trying to figure out what cars can and can not get on to the track with prohibited tuning with my list of cars will suppress the fun for me.

Hosestly, I'm just going to grab a car and drive and not worry about whether it's been modified or not. This is supposed to be fun.   :-\

Edit: just realized that the room will probably be configured for no tuning ...

Edit2: guess I'll just drive whatever ... consider me a maybe

I would think the online dealership and used car lot would yield at least a half dozen cars that would meet spec.  I havent been in there this week, so just a guess.

Most everyone should have some GTAcademy cars too.  I believe it was 3 of those I found to meet spec.  The premium dealership would get you a bunch too.

I'm picking out cars right now, and I think I'm coming around on this deal. I think this is going to be fun.

This ain't my rodeo, but I'd like to suggest a small twist in the rules to try and accommodate guys like me. What if shuffling was optional **BUT** if you landed on the podium (top 3 slots), then it's mandatory for the next race? Would that be ok? Again, not my rodeo, but this might allow folks who just want to drive a way to keep driving a car they like (and make them happy).

Just a thought. Looking forward to this. See yall tonight.

That was a lot of fun. Wouldn't mind if it was that way every week. Only issues I encountered were:

1. Some of my cars had engine upgrades and I forgot, which meant that when I went to use them there was nothing I could do.

2. On some cars, I had time to save my tune to Setting A before switching to Setting B and setting everything back to stock.

3. However, many times, I was the last one in the room trying to get this done. A little more time between races would help.

4. I got disco'd on the last race, called it a night.

Great fun. Thanks for letting me drive the Miata a bit. That was a blast.

i thought this was a really good shuffle stepper(i generally don't like shuffles) no one got stuck in shitty cars for 2-3 races in a row unless they wanted to be in shitty cars...if your car sucked you only had YOUself to blame. it was kind of like a card game where once you drove a car(played a card) it was gone.it  letted you statagize for the faster tracks like use your vettes at daytona and your muscle cars at london.

I enjoyed it as well.  Was able to try and fit a car to the track chosen. I lucked out with having a wide selection of cars.  Was fun.

4WD Rally Cars @ Autumn Ring was a blast. The Speed 6 @ Trial Mountain was a hoot too.

I will continue to build my stock 440pp car collection. (I had some at that pp already and I'm not sure what from. Maybe it was from a Touch of Class evnet?)

This is a really good point, I was thinking the same thing. For those people who've played Magic The Gathering, you probably had similar thoughts along this line.

I'd like to throw out some more ideas. Basically, this opens up a whole lot of strategy to the game. Like you pointed out, do you save certain cars for certain tracks? That Mercedes I had last night was the killer on Sarthe (if it wasn't for driver error, lol).

But what about allowing modification? And if we don't do mods on Tuesdays, then what about another night? Again, my motivation is to encourage races that allow me to drive the cars I like to drive as much as possible. That's all.

Thanks,

MX

Oh, and for those people that are concerned that they have too many cars modified for this series, remember that a low PP means that not only are all these cars available for cheap from the dealership, but they can also be traded easily. So if you've got a favorite car that you want to drive but it's been modified, someone can send you a new one, I'm pretty sure.

Why not use even numbers (350, 400, 450, 500, 550, 600)? The reason I ask is that these are the most common in the open Lounges, so I typically keep a few cars ready to go at those PP numbers. Guess it doesn't matter but ... the less work I have to do, the less work I have to do.  :)
