Title: Cote d'Rockets sponcord by Fratelli Tires
Post by: dlrws6 on January 26, 2014, 06:44:12 PM

It's always fun to butcher two languages in one sentence.  :D

I had originally intended to do a slightly amusing and hopefully comical introduction to the race but the further I get into the description I realized that, in truth, it has become more of an editorial regarding the current state of racing.

Organizing a new event has become incredibly difficult.  The fact is I have not seen it this bad since the mid-90s and the demise of the original IMSA and the rise of the corrupt Professional Sports Car organization.  Like back then, on the surface, things may seem ok but it is clear there is a cancer eating away at the sport we all hold dear.  Clearly, I’m talking about PD Tire Co.  What started as rumor has without a doubt been confirmed.  It is obvious that PD Tire Co. has been using their influence as tire supplier to affect the outcome of races all over the world.  Not only have they been supplying tires that are clearly substandard that do not grip or wear consistently which is a danger to both racers and spectators , it’s also clear that they have been paying their sponsored drivers to slow down to affect the outcome of races.  But like back in the 90s there is possibly a light at the end of this tunnel.

Things have definitely been hard.  Sitting Duck is obviously not the organization it once was.  After a disastrous season in the World Exotics Championship, we lost several of our sponsors, including our primary sponsor the Solent Corporation.  With limited funds we were left with no choice but to pick and choose where and how to race.  Basically the cheaper the better. The problem is, cheaper also often equals less safe. Several severe head injuries from accidents at Daytona and a little bad vision later, sitting duck was in just as bad or worse shape than the current racing environment.   But things have started to turn around.

A brief but successful stint in the Red Bull Jr. series provided a cash infusion that gave us the flexibility to purchase some new cars and get the attention of potential sponsors once again.  Then suddenly it happened, we were approached by Pirelli Tires.  What a breath of fresh air!  To pick up a sponcer of the integrity of Pirelli tires.  Pirelli would never, NEVER, put drivers at risk with inconsistent tires or try to alter the outcome of a race buy aiding specific teams or designing tires to cater to one specific team. Thank Goodness for Pirelli Tires.

So sign up declare your color and worry not because your car will have Pirelli tires and Pirelli has got your back.

My tenative entry is based upon the tire /pit stop issues being acceptable or totally fixed.

All humor aside,  I'm hoping it'll get fixed sooner than later. But I'm not too concerned with it.  I'm still testing the tire issue but worse case scenario, I believe I can tweak the rules to aid in minimizing its affect, if it is too unbearable.

^I don't even know what issue Baked is referring to.  Is it an online thing?  I haven't played GT6 online yet.

See this post.  There is a bug that affects tire wear and lap times when you make a pit stop.

If it's good enough for the Dud, it's good enough for me...

Please sign CharTuna up for this evnet.  He will be driving a charcoal colored Rocket with bad o-rings.  Wwll the smoke comes from somewhere, and evidently not his tires...

I want to try and test some tunes for this, this weekend (I'm thinking Saturday afternoon around 3pm PST). I can send out some PSN PM's when I do if anyone is interested.

I know I've been pretty quiet on the forum (and online play) but I've been keeping an eye on this thread.

Also I hope to get more involved (again) in the near future.  Just been busy with life!

Same here but this is still a go.  I'm about to be on vacation so I most likely will spend some time finishing up the details and setting a firm date in the next few days for this.  :)

                                        BROKEN NEWS!!!

Pirelli pulls out of Cote d’Rockets

Sometime today, Pirelli announced in a press release that it will no longer sponcor the Cote d’Rockets or act as tire supplier.  After a second incident during an independent tire test session in preparation for the race. As seen here:
Pirelli has decided that it would not be in its best interest to continue offering its Pirelli P-0-Sports tire in light of the ongoing issues.
Members of both Sitting Duck Racing and PD Racing Association we at the independent test and had the following comments:
PD RA: “We do not believe the tires were the issue, the P-0-S tires are perfect. If anything, they might be too perfect.”
SDR: “um…”
With only 2 weeks to go it will be difficult to find a new sponcor.

Stay tuned...

Now on to the serious stuff:  We are 1 story piece and about two weeks away from the race.

I'm in the process of updating the front post with all the info over tonight and tomorrow in-between the Long Beach races.  Start time is 6pm est. I thought about moving the date but given we are getting close to Undy as well, I'd rather not run it too close to that race, assuming it gets run.

My guess is we all expected the pit stop problems to be resolved by now. Despite the issues my plan is to move forward with running the race bugs and all, but ultimately its up to all of you.

Shall we continue or hold off a while longer in the hopes the game issues will get fixed?

If I can make it home by 6pm (EST I'm assuming?) then I'm in.  But I'll be drunk and relying on a bus for transportation so if it leaves late there's not much I can do.

STILL IN NEED OF REPAIR NEWS!!!

April 20rd, 2016

In a 13st hour deal a new title sponcer has been found for the inaugural Cote d’Rockets.  Fratelli Tires a small Italian Tire manufacturer has signed on as the title sponcer and tire provider for the inaugural event, replacing Pirelli tires which pulled out as title sponcer and tire provider after several incidents that were linked to potential tire issues.
Fratelli Tires will be providing their Fratelli Universal sports tire for the race and all remaining testing and qualifying sessions.  The Fratelli Universal tire is a unique one size fits all approach to automotive tires.

Fratelli Tires is a small family owned business which is led by the head of the family, Mama Fratelli, seen below.

When contacted Mama Fratelli released the following statement:  We at Fratelli Tires are proud to be a part of the inaugural Cote d’Rockets and are intent on proving to the world the Fratelli Universal tire is the wave of the future. Next time you’re in Italy be sure to stop by Fratelli Tires where our friendly staff will be happy to help you.

With the race just one week away this is a huge boost to a troubled motor race.

I don't recall what my practice lap times were, but I believe that is a good time. I think it will be Friday before I can do more laps there. I will check at lunch today as I may have saved a ghost lap.  ^-^

1.36s with lots of 1.37s sprinkled in but I'm pretty sure 1.35s are possible.  I kept getting close but I'd inevitably mess up a corner.

I'll try and have the room open early on Saturday for practice as well as maybe Friday night after CiaY.

I was home for lunch and checked, I had done a 1'35.5xx. I jumped in the new rig/wheel setup and can only managed mid '37's. So I will be a bit slow with my new setup for awhile it looks like.

PP: 630

I think I'm around 580pp so hopefully that covers my lost time.

Wanting to run but will be a last second decision as we have company in from out of town.

Last time I attended an event when we had people over was my uncles retirement BBQ here in our backyard. Immediate family was understanding but outside of that family members kinda gave me a hard time. Keeping fingers crossed but so far everything is already behind schedule so we will see.

My sincerest thanks to everyone for coming out and trying.

Overall I felt the formula worked pretty well but I guess GT6 is just not built for long distance races. Wheel issues, pit issues, disconnects... based on this and other races it seems like the game starts to fall apart if the race is more than about 5 laps.  :(

Oh well, onwards and upwards... or something like that.
