How about we go balls out for this event and uncork these babies?  I can understand limiting the power for oval races, but a road course?

Come oooooooooooooon  8)

I'll re-test it, but as I recall from my initial tests (old physics) their was a 5 second difference between the slowest and fastest cars. Not to mention, I'm trying to match the real world as close as I can or is plausible in game.  Even though these cars really did produce 1000+ horsepower, the cars were always de-tuned down to 700 - 800 HP for the race, for reliability and fuel economy reasons.

I've decided I'm going to re-balance the cars closer to their stock weight and HP (after oil change) and am aiming for a January date sometime around the Daytona 24 hour race.

Also I think I finally know what I want to do for the Road Course series.  Basically Daytona and LeMans will be endurance races in the two hour range with the rest running in the 30 to 45 minute range.  Here is the track list.

1. Daytona Road (see above)
2. Fuji GT
3. Spa
4. Le Mans 09 chicane
5. Nurburgring GP/F
6. Suzuka
7. Monza

So at this point, before I get too deep into testing, is there any interest in this series?  Also how would you feel about using weather change tracks, but set so there is a slim to none chance of rain, but at least keep rain as a possible surprise element?

I've updated the front post with the rules.

This series will be formated more or less the same as the oval series. About one race every 3 to 4 weeks, with 7 rounds and each race lasting about 30 minutes and it looks like we'll still run on Wednesdays.

Based on my testing it looks like all the cars stock are pretty close to each other.

Although it is a series with points, its not necessary to commit to the full seasion.  Any one who wants to race can come and go as they please.

Still I would like to take names of those who are interested.  Also I was thinking we could kick things off the week after the real 24 hours of Daytona.  How does January 30th sound?

They are all different this time around.  Even after testing, I'm still not sure what I want to run.

Also at least for a day or two there are still some Group C cars in the OCD.

As before I am in, car undecided at this point.

As to the track line up, if the original post has the correct list could you modify another post of yours further down that has a different list, to avoid confusion?  One lists Le mans with the chicanes, the other no chicanes. :P

Title: Re: Group C @ DRC Updated 1/7
Post by: dlrws6 on January 13, 2013, 02:04:09 PM
I've been giving it some thought and if there is an objection, I'm going to remove the same car for each race rule.  Considering that unless there is high demand for another this is probably the last series I'm going to do with Group C so why not leave it open to run as many different Group C cars as possible.

So given no objections your welcome to change cars for each race or stick with one car if you prefer.

I know it takes time to do this but...

I really haven't thought about picking a car yet because you haven't posted the horsepower levels.

Got some laps in @ DRC the other night with dlrws6. 1'31's seemed to be a decent consistent time. It will be very difficult to one stop, two is probably optimum.

 With stock turbo right?

Stock everything, but you can tune what it comes with. I ran the Merc and dlrws6 ran the R92CP. Both are good. I tried the 787, but @ DRC it was lacking in speed across the start finish. It was about 10mph slower for me.

Thanks Dude! Testing the R92CP and like it. Might try the series if nothing comes up.

Thanks Dude! Testing the R92CP and like it. Might try the series if nothing comes up.

Also, don't forget. They all use their stock weight and horse power. So oil change and make sure your power limiter is 100% / added weight 0.  :)

Put me down as a maybe for now... car TBD.

Also, roughly what time will the races start?

I think dlrsw6 was planning on Wednesday nights. I mentioned trying for Fridays on Tuna Cup off nights, but I see now there is no gap in Tuna Cup races.

Also, also, it was mentioned a different car could be selected for each race.
Title: Re: Group C @ DRC Updated 1/7

9pm eastern on Wednesdays. DRC will take a little less than an hour. Le Mans will be the same and the other races will be about 30 minutes, although I have not done a lap count for them yet.

Although it is a series and points will be awarded I wanted to make it as open and racer friendly as possible. Switching cars is ok, tuning is ok but no mods. Run as many races as you like points don't matter, but I will give the points leader at the end of the series a 1000 ticket.

Also this time, unless a dedicated series comes along I'll move things from my lounge to TunaHost.

Also, also, I ran a full length arcade race today, running mostly 1.32s and 1.33s with the occasional 1.31. I did it with only one pit stop but I would have liked to make two.  I found after about 50% wear the tires drop way off. Tire wear may be a big factor in this race.

Does one have to sign up, or can I just show up.  I miss running those cars and with the less than 1 hour race, I will try my ass off to make it.   :-[

Never mind...  Put me down for the 905.

Hey dlr, I didn't see any mention in the OP about driving aids.  I'm fine with whatever you choose but since these cars are pretty insane I figured at least ABS and TC would be on the table.

What say ye?
Title: Re: Group C @ DRC Updated 1/7
Post by: dlrws6 on January 23, 2013, 07:57:25 AM
That's pretty much in line with my thinking to make the races as accessable to people as possible feel free to use the assists.  I am not going to restrict them.

Front post updated with time and car choices.

9pm eastern.  Thats funny I thought I had it on there.  ???

I'm going with the 787B. It does not have the power of the other cars but its a little bit easier on tires and I seem to spend less time spinning out.  (http://i.imgur.com/LmjyBgx.gif)

I may not be able to make it tomorrow. My Dad is very sick in the hospital and may go at any moment. Myself and my brothers have been taking shifts to be with him and depending on his condition at any given moment I don't know when or how long I will be there with him.

I need the diversion and can't think of a better one that the race even though I haven't practiced or tuned my car for a road course.

I should add that my Dad is almost 90 and is ready to move on, he's been sick for a while and it would be a blessing to ease his pain.

Don't wait for me but I hope to be there. Good luck everyone and I hope to see you there.

Thanks, I'm looking forward to the next one myself.  I've been thinking about it the up coming schedule  and with Group C Indy being next week and the oval free for all finale the following week, plus Daytuna and all the regular goings on. I think the next round won't be until March.  The good news is I'm thinking starting in March to possible run the rest of the races on a bi-weekly schedule.  If every one prefers the monthly races I'm willing to reconsider but I've got a few other ideas that I'd like to move on to, assuming I have the time to flesh them out.

In the mean time here are a few videos that'll make you wish the sounds in GT5 were as perfect as Kaz claims.  :copz:

iRacing (also not usually known for good sound) has been making a few changes to their sound.  One thing that they've done is: All cars now have flex modeled in their drivetrain math, instead of being perfectly rigid. This gives all kinds of subtle and interesting audible and physical engine rpm wobble effects.

Here is what the V8 Supercar sounds like now:

Maybe Kaz needs to be informed.

I have not thought about it much.  I knew I was taking a break from gaming but I did not know I was going to spend the last 3 weeks fighting some sort of flu virus.  :( Racing and video games in general have been the farthest from my mind. I'm a lot better but still not 100%.  I may aim for running the next race in April and carrying on from there, assuming there is enough interest in running by that time.    ;D
