Title: Game Stock Car
Post by: Wiz on December 23, 2012, 10:30:12 PM
I've been reading rally good things about this game for quite a while now, just never got around to trying it out.  I think the name of the game turned me off for some reason, which is stupid I know.  Plus the fact that there are only 6 cars available and 3 of them are Formula cars didn't help either.

Well, I got bored last night I decided to give it a try and boy am I glad I did.  This game is absolutely fantastic!

Recommended Configuration
 2.6 Ghz Processor / Windows XP or superior / 1GB RAM / Directx 9.0c compatible video card with 1GB Video RAM / 4 GB free hard disk space

Supports up to 32 players online

Pros:

1. FFB -  It's the best FFB I've ever felt.  Feels great with my Fanatec CSR and I've read that it feels great with G Series wheels as well.

2. Physics - I think with only 6 cars, they were able to spend some time getting them really, really good for each car.  Each car feels unique and and behave how I think they should behave. Not too too slippery, not too grippy.  I feel really connected to both the car and the road.  Quite possibly the best physics/FFB combo I've ever played.

3. As you can see, the track list is pretty good.  Some of the mod tracks are better than others.  Some are nice and bumpy while others not so much.

4. Highly customizable...  For example, I didn't like the default bumper camera view for any of the cars.  It was way too low.  I found the camera files for each car, found the line that calls out camera position and changed it.  That simple.

5. Doesn't need a top of the line PC to run it.

6. Car Tuning - It's all there.  You can tune pretty much everything you can think of.

7. The AI seems pretty good so far.  Though with almost every other game I've played, I'm sure the mroe I play it the AI's flaws will start to show.  Can't complain so far though.  Did a 10 lapper at Interlagos last night and didn't get wiped out and they were fast and fun.  You can also customize their speed & aggression with sliders.

8.  It's a PC sim so there's shitloads of options to play around with.

9. It's only $20!

Cons:

1. Only 6 cars, 3 of them Formula.

2. The graphics are just ok.  They're not terrible though.  The game uses an updated rFactor engine so it's pretty outdated by todays standards.  My biggest gripe is the other cars around you don't look connected to the road.  It almost looks like they're just kind of floating on the road surface.  It's not a dealbreaker or anything just kind of annoying to look at.

I could probably think of more pros & cons but that's all I got for now.  I'm sure I'll post more stuff soon.  If you have any questions feel free to ask and I'll answer as best I can.

No.

The Stock Cars are 2 different cars, the Chevrolet Sonic and the Peugeot 408.  I'd guess each car has about a dozen or so teams/liveries.  Which I guess they think means they have that many different cars, even though there's really only 2.

So I guess technically this game has 7 different cars.  I should have noted that in my OP.

It looks interesting, but I'd rather put my effort into something on a console.

I should have time this week to get the rest of the tracks I have shared.  There's probably about 50 or so.

Also, I hope to also have time to figure out why I can't get a room going.  :)

I still maintain that the stock cars in the 2012 version were the best feeling sim cars I've ever driven.  FFB was fantastic and the car/wheel just felt "right" in my hands.

I'm sure I'll pick up this new version eventually.

I'd like to hear your feedback once you've played it a bit Doc.
Title: Re: Game Stock Car

My initial impression was pretty negative.  It looked like crap, side monitors were distorted, steering sucked.  It didn't help that it has a definite rFactor feel.  I hate the rFactor2 UI (never tried rFactor).  If I hadn't bought the game and was just trying out the 60min demo, I probably would have given up.

Part of the issue was my fault.  I didn't notice the multiview tick box on the config screen.  After rerunning the config and enabling multiview it looked better but still not good.  I couldn't get the FOV right in the options menu and ended up having to edit the cam files to correct it.  The default cam file didn't seem to do anything and it was a bit of a pain to edit all the car files.  Finally, I got CCC to handle the antialiasing and stuff.  That finally got things looking good.  Not as good as iRacing but much better than before.  The steering fix was simply to change my wheel to 540 degrees.

After getting through all that, the sim is pretty darn good and well worth $25US.  The graphics aren't the best but fps performance is really good ~70 with a 20 car grid at Interlagos.  Though it's hard to see exactly since it's partly covered by the bevel (why is it so hard to get proper triple screen support?).  I'm no expert on physics but I think it's in the same ballpark as AC, rFactor2, NKpro and iRacing NTMv5 at first glance.  AI at first glance seems pretty good.  I'm pretty slow so it doesn't take much to challenge me.  I may need to turn up the aggression because I had a bit of a parade following me one race.  Even so, in one practice I moved to divebomb one car and he actually gave me some space and then retook the position the next corner.  While the UI definitely has rFactor roots, it's not nearly as bad as rFactor2.

An interesting comment by one of the GSC devs on the iRacing forum:

Bear in mind that despite what the GTR3.co.uk forums say, GSC is NOT a different tire model or engine compared to rFactor 1.

If it feels like this, it is because our circuits are more bump detailed and our physics a step up from most rFactor mods. However, should you drive a straight conversion rFactor car and circuit in GSC, it'll feel exactly the same as it did in rFactor.

I never understood why people convert mods to the various gmotor sims as they are all effectively the same, so I stick to rFactor for modding and only drive the original content in these other gmotor sims. But that's just me, at least you know now that any 'magic' you feel in GSC comes from hard work, not from engine differences

I really like this game.  A good selection of cars from Karts to Minis and Camaros to Stock cars to Formula cars.  All the tracks are from the Brazillian stock car series.  Pretty well done and the track surfaces are nicely detailed.  The name of the game is kind of unfortunate since Brazilian stock cars are more like touring cars.  Here is a real race with a couple of former F1 drivers (Barrichello and Zonta).  The start to the race (at about 5min) is pretty crazy.

I tried the karts last night at Interlagos.  The karts were apparently one of the things that they changed from the pre-release.  They are a lot of fun.  The steering is lighter than the pre-release and the karts are much twitchier.

I had a great race against the AI.  I thought that I qualified 1nd but ended up starting last.  I might have been black flagged for speeding in the pits or something.  I managed to work my way up to third by the end of the race.  Racing in karts is pretty intense nonstop action.

This reminds me.  There are a lot of tracks in GT that apparently also have kart tracks.  It would be nice if they managed to include some of those in the game as well.  Maybe they will include the kart tracks at Interlagos as part of the Senna thing.  I'm pretty sure that Senna started off in karts.

I'll have to try the Formula Reiza cars at Interlagos later today.

Recent comment from the devs...

Quote
Over the next few months we plan to continue supporting GSC2013 with a constant flow of developments, including new cars, new tracks and new simulation features.

Without going into specific details just yet, this is what GSC2013 users can look forward to in the near future:

The updates will come in at a roughly regular pace – every month or so something new will be added to the sim, be it a new track, a new car, or a new feature, along with continuous improvements & eventual bug fixes;
All updates will be free – if you own GSC2013, the new content will be made available to you at no additional charge. We are however looking into experimenting with more community interaction for those willing to participate and contribute with the funding of these developments;
As with the content currently available in the sim, there will be a mix of licensed and fictional content;
The main goal for these updates is to continue to enrich the simulation and the diversity of driving experiences available – no “more of the same”, the new content will complement and enhance the existing stuff into an even more complete racing sim package;
The diversity is relative to our own content but also relative to other sims – these are not cars and tracks you are likely to find in every other racing game (they are not obscure either mind);
Also keeping to the “diversity” guideline, relative to base content the new content will be largely international (non-Brazilian) – from past, present and future.

Got to play for about an hour last night.

Great game as expected.

Only had time to drive the stock cars and the Opala.  Both felt great.  The Opala was challenging but fun.

Looking forward to driving the karts.

Loaded up a few mod tracks and enjoyed those as well.  The Barcelona track was decent, Com8's Nurburgring is widely regarded as one of the better mod Green Hells you'll find.  I enjoyed it.  Had some trouble getting other mod tracks to load but I'll figure that out eventually.   Also loaded up the FIA GT mod, but didn't have time to try it.

Will post more thoughts after I play it more.  I can already tell I'll get my $24 worth.

When I feel like racing against AI, this is what I play.  The AI isn't perfect but pretty good.  It does take a little fiddling to get a good setting.

One of my favourite combos is the F3 car at Taruma.  I like the flow of Taruma and it suits the F3 car very well.  The only car that I don't really like is the Camaro.  I suspect that the only reason that it was included was because it is the pace car for the stock cars.

I don't really have the time to even fully explore the official content so I've mostly been avoiding mods.  My rF2 install became quite unwieldy with all the cars and tracks so I cleaned most of it out except for a few tracks.  If you find anything that is "can't miss" let me know.

I had downloaded a rF2 version of Montreal but it was pretty sad.  I have Montreal for iRacing.  Needless to say, the iRacing track is awesome.  Sometimes, I'm not really sure if I like Circuit Gilles Villeneuve as much as I think I do, or if I'm influenced by the fact that Montreal is one of my favourite cities in the world.

I tested out the new version last night.  For some reason it looks worse than I remember it (it's been a while).  Lots of jaggies.  Luckily upping the AA and changing to supersampling made it look a lot better and didn't hurt fps very much.  Montreal isn't iRacing quality but it is pretty good.  The old track (in GSC) is a fair bit more interesting than the new version (iRacing, FC).  There are a couple of extra high speed turns after the hairpin.  It's not just a chicane and the wall of champions.  The V12 is a beast to drive as you would expect.  The new Floripa track is pretty good.

Another kick ass video from AdrianF1.  He somehow superimposed is own hands/arms & wheel over gameplay.

I guess someone developed an rfactor to GSC tool that makes conversions extremely easy to do.

There's now a shitload of mods available for GSC.

I'll start finding what's good and what isn't and put the good stuff in the downloads area.

1.20 released!!!!

Content

Cars:
Added Stock Car V8 2014 season to Stock Car V8 series
Added Formula Extreme series
Added Formula Vee series
Completed full Formula V12 field + updated graphics
Tracks:
Buenos Aires (4 layouts)
Spielberg (2 layouts)
Spielberg Historic
Features & fixes:
Added DRS functionality + rules (for F-Extreme / f-Reiza)
Added multiple qualifying rules (F1 style / Stockv8)
Added option to restrict prime / option tire compound selections per track
Adjusted StockV8 tire change rules so only 1 tire is changed at a time as per real rules
Revised tire physics on all cars in preparation to new tire model features currently in development
Added multiple tire compound options with corresponding tirewall colors to F-Extreme / F-Reiza
Adjusted dirty air physics for more realistic behavior
Adjusted engine cooling properties in all cars
Adjusted AI performance for wider range specially in lower strentgh settings, and more consistency all around from track to track, series to series
Fixed bug with AI performance discrepancy from quali to race (RaceQualRatio=XX parameter now works in AIW files, lower than 1.0 value will result in slower qual times relative to race, higher values will do the opposite. By default AI should be about 2% faster in quali; remains an issue with AI being too quick in practice sessions)
Increased rearview mirror resolution for all cars
Corrected FOV / POV + tv cameras to the same standards for all cars
Updated rumble sounds to be more "bassy" on all cars (for Buttkicker and other similar systems)
Adjusted trackside cameras in all tracks for more realistic framing / tracking
Adjusted some inconsistent road & terrain properties, fixing some overdone high frequency bumps
Various environmental / lightining enhancements (new skies / fog and other updated shaders);
Introduced new Foliage shader which looks better & is more optimized to provide performance boost
Added 3d tyre lods at Granja Viana to help ease performance issues
Added 3d Armco at Interlagos
Known issues:
The F-Extreme ERS system has been simplified for this release - basically, the battery is fully charged all the time and the power blending still needs work, meaning the driveability under throttle is not quite what it should be yet;
The AI for the F-Extreme does not use 8th gear or DRS;
The hard compound for the F-Extreme & F-Reiza does ot have its proper grey Pirelli sidewall label.

Have you played around with this new update yet?

I hear the Formula Vee is fun as hell.

I hope to find some time to update this weekend and check it all out.

I've downloaded the update but I haven't even installed it yet.  I just don't have time these days.  I've probably played an hour total of LFS over the past few weeks just because driving with the rift is awesome.

I think the Formula Vee is pretty close to the Skippy.  The Skippy is my favourite car in iRacing.  It is so much fun to drive and race so I'm sure that the Vee would be a blast as well.

Reiza are joining the crowd funding fad: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/reiza-simracing-bonanza#/story
The $2000 level is actually kind of cool.  You get an all expenses trip to Sao Paulo and VIP seating for the final Stock car race at Interlagos.

"AUTOMOBILISTA - MOTORSPORTS SIMULATOR IS COMING TO STEAM ON Q1 2016!

Successor of Stock Car Extreme, new racing simulator by Reiza Studios will be free to all current owners of SCE

AUTOMOBILISTA puts you in the driving seat of an advanced racing simulator to deliver a uniquely diverse motorsports experience!

As the natural successor to Reiza Studios´ previous title - the highly regarded Stock Car Extreme, originally released in 2013 - AUTOMOBILISTA continues to simulate premium Brazilian racing series such as Stock Car V8, Copa Petrobras de Marcas, Formula 3 Brasil and Mitsubishi Lancer Cup, now packing every car and every track from their respective 2015 championships.

Beyond the brazilian core, AUTOMOBILISTA is extensively complemented with one of the most diverse selections or racing vehicles to be found in a racing game: only in AUTOMOBILISTA will you be able to jump from a rental kart to a 800-HP F1 car; from drifting a Rallycross Evo X to jumping ramps in a Supertruck; from mastering the driving basics in a Formula Vee to managing a full 24h race in an endurance prototype; back and forth through time with historical and modern content including a sample from several decades of Grand Prix racing - all of this and much more within a few mouse clicks. Thoroughly researched and cohesively developed for maximum simulation accuracy, AUTOMOBILISTA captures the fun only motorsports in its various forms can provide.

In addition to the content already present in Stock Car Extreme - all of which comprehensively upgraded - AUTOMOBILISTA turns it up to a new level by adding all the new cars & tracks proposed in the SimRacing Bonanza crowdfunding campaign, new simulation features such as dynamic track conditions, advanced transmission and tire modelling, substantial upgrades to physics, graphics & audio, new game modes and much more!

SPECIAL OFFER - AUTOMOBILISTA free to everyone who owns Stock Car Extreme on Steam by January 5th!

AUTOMOBILISTA is an evolution of the project presented by Reiza´s successful crowdfunding campaign in July 2015. Originally proposed as an extensive free update to Stock Car Extreme, AMS has grown further to become a completely independent release from SCE - it will however remain free to everyone who bought Stock Car Extreme up until January 5th 2016.

Therefore if you already own SCE on Steam, AUTOMOBILISTA will become immediately available to you upon release!

SCE owners who have not yet activated their copy of Stock Car Extreme on Steam should do so until January 5th 2016 by retrieving their Stock Car Extreme Steam key here, and activating it on Steam. It is not necessary to install SCE on Steam - just have it activated there to ensure your free copy of AMS. This will have no effect on your SCE installation outside Steam, where serial numbers will remain functional (owners who had previously made the switch also have had their NonSteam Serial Numbers reactivated).

Upon launch, AUTOMOBILISTA will sell for US$ 39.99 so for those who don´t yet own Stock Car Extreme, this is a special opportunity to get both SCE now and simultaneously ensure a free copy of AUTOMOBILISTA - all for the current price of Stock Car Extreme (currently selling for the special Steam holiday price of US$ 22.49 / R$ 89.99). This special offer is available only until 5th January 2016, as from January 6th 2016 onwards buying Stock Car Extreme will no longer warrant a free copy of AUTOMOBILISTA.

AUTOMOBILISTA - Motorsports Simulator will be released exclusively on the Steam platform during Q1 2016.

Further information as it becomes available on www.game-automobilista.com"

They spent all their money on physics guy(s) and computer guys and nothing on marketing.  If you hadn't recommended it, I probably would never have tried it.
