(http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss272/james_mikel/STGT%20forum/lol1.gif) Sorry Wolfy, but the answer here is No, some people don't go out anymore - or just not on Fridays. This Friday trend has different reasons for different people. I Must be up early Mon-Fri, and the kids are around during daylight hours, so the Only time I can Dedicate to gaming is late hours Friday and Saturday. This is why my participation in all events (except Friday) has seriously dropped off in the last God knows how many months - hell maybe over a year. There are lots of people with similar limitations. Hopefully, you can find a good series to join.

I'd love to take part in one of these series but I really don't want to make a commitment I can't keep (especially this far in advance  :o )... if all the spots don't fill up I'd love to play field-filler and show up as much as possible... I keep an eye on the registration and swoop in late if I feel it's safe

I understand.  I mean I figured as much.  I'm still a youngin' and rolling solo so I try to do most of my gaming at other times.  Unfortunately that can prove difficult for quality series. :-X

I updated some of the missing details - laps, handicap, hp/PP. Less than a week before we start our 'world tour' in the spec Speed 6. What numbers are being used by people in the TVR? (only 2 mentioned a #)

Should we coordinate colors too?  It'd be cool to have a bunch of different colors out there for photos.

#57 for me please.

I'm game for coordinating colours though I have no idea what I'd pick, having over 2000 paints is going to make it difficult to choose lol.

We can try, but 'Different colors' not required by any means. Note that a light blue can look very different from a darker blue. If you guys post them I'll add it to the OP. I'll take my car details last - or on Friday.

So I brought my Number 57 today and painted it up in a nice Moonraker Black Metallic with Starmist Blue wheels, figured I'd play it safe and stick with TVR colours otherwise I'd still be thinking about it come race night :).

I've got a long day of tailgating for (and attending) a college football game on Saturday.  So that means my Friday night will be very low key in preparation.  So I "might" be around Friday and and would love to participate if the room is not full.  As I'm not sure I could attend every later event I'm happy to concede any spot to someone that will definitely attend every event.

In the meantime put me down for #64! :jimi:

HAHA, okay so I just checked NCSU's home football schedule and they have home games every Saturday after these Friday races.  So I should be able to attend all of these because I can't handle boozing it up Friday night and then again all day Saturday

OP updated.

REK brings the count up to 12. Week 1 though, we might have a few missing (Ronin and Cipriani, nosoks might miss race 1), so there might be room for a straggler or two to bump up back to 12.

Thanks for coming out everyone. I'm glad you all made it. Good racing tonight. Week 1 was Fried showing us how to get around a track. Even underpowered he had great pace. We'll see how he does at Fuji, short on HP for Quali AND race :)

I want to ge to bed. More to come on the fun and the results.

Definitely an interesting start!  I like the way it's set up too with the two shorter races at different tracks per meeting, not that have anything against 1 longer race though since that's just as good :).  And the car, that was definitely an interesting experience lol, I'm not sure which was more inconsistent me or the car!  Seemed like every lap was a gamble between oversteer and understeer, each subsequent lap being different from the previous one too .. I think I like the car though, I just suck at driving  :laugh

Thanks for setting this up Turbo!  Looking forward to the next round!

Fun indeed. Drivers, cars, track...the only thing holding it back was the tires. Racing Hard makes it very challenging. Fried had a graet Q time at Monza. Probably a second faster than half the field.

Race 1 started rough for 2 drivers. Ronin was crowded in turn 1 and ate dirt, and Feldynn (I think) had complications in the first chicane. I got a decent start from 5th, but had a hard time through the chicane and the top 3 spots, I think - Fried, Wiz, and Stepper - pulled away from the rest. Dawson and I were in the second pack, maybe with someone else - Feldynn/Chrome?. Eventually, the chase group was just Dawson and I, and we stayed together until the end of lap 12, when he got some dirt on the last corner and dropped back a bit. It was a great run with him, with lots of passes, close calls, fast laps. Hotstepper, at some point, lost touch with Fried and Wiz, who stayed together until the last(?) lap. I think Wiz made a mistake and Fried took the win by a few seconds.

(Sorry to finishers 6-10...I have no idea what went on behind me either race.)

Race 2, lap 1...was more of a challenge than Monza. First, Dude made a mistake into corner 1 and took 2 cars off track with him, including Fried. Then, I braked late into the chicance. I didn't have heavy contact with the barrier, but I was off track and had to let everyone by before rejoining. Luckily, my bad braking didn't hurt anyone (much). I got back up to pace quickly though, and gained on the pack quite a bit. I was surprised at how the gap closed. Through it all, Wiz was able to get a great start and held the lead for much of the race. I was actually able to make my way through the pack. I had some good laps with guys, but nothing lasted for some reason. Fried and Stepper recovered from lap 1, and held spots 2-3 quite a while, with nosoks in 4. I think nosoks and Stepper lost some pace, and Fried went on to chase Wiz, while I eventually caught and passed nosoks and Stepper. I don't know what happened to Wiz, such a good start and mid-race, but in the second half, he dropped from 1 to 3. Fried got him around lap 9, and I got him on lap 11 or 12. I think I was turning lap times similar to Fried, but it wasn't enough.

Well done everyone. A few mistakes, but good racing, and some very good performances.

Not only did I eat dirt but I went all the way to the wall nose first, but I think I made a valiant effort not to fuck up Thunny's race. It was everything I could do to keep the car from coming back on to the track and crossing right in his path. I'll be honest I was pretty upset after the race last night, I got into the race knowing full well it would make me late for work and then I was unable to enjoy the race because of someones else's stupidity. I look forward to the upcoming weeks tho, I have a hell of a points deficit to overcome, should prove to be challenging.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that first chicane at Monza.  That was definitely me, for once I had a pretty good qualifying time and started 3rd then had a good start that got me up to 1st I think coming into that chicane, sadly I completely screwed up braking and ended up hitting the chicane wall so I waited for most to pass before trying to get back on the track given where I was stuck at.

That was something I just couldn't get a handle on all night too, the braking points.  Maybe I need to mess with my brake bias, even though it's the same as for most race cars I run it felt like each lap had slightly different braking points than the last  :-\.

I don't recall much of what went on near the back, but I think Dude, Chrome, BigRek and myself had the occasional back and forth.  I remember I followed BigRek into the sand at the last corner at one point and left Chrome wondering why we were braking so late :).

Great evnet Turbo!!!  The 2 races at different tracks is fun as hell.  I was practicing early in the day Friday at Monza and put a quick setup under it.  Then headed to GP-F and tried the same tune with a  slight spring and gear change, and it seemed to work well.  That made switching tracks not to bad, as the car would keep the same feel as last race.

Race 1, I started on the pole, with Wizard, Stepper and Feldyn, just waiting to pounce.  Before we even get to the first turn, Feldyn goes flying by, followed by Wiz and Stepper.  Unfortunately, Feldyn missed the chicane, which left Wizard, Stepper and myself with a slight gap on 4rd.  For the next 5+ laps, the 3 of us stayed very close and were having some good battles.  Stepper slowly lost touch with Wiz and I around lap 7 or 8, but I don't think the 2 of us were ever more than .5 sec apart.  I don't know what the hell Wiz was doing, (http://i.imgur.com/LmjyBgx.gif) it was lap 15, going into turn 1.  I had a draft and went for the pass entering.  I look in my rear view mirror to see if I cleared, and all I see is dust and him saying "shit!".  (http://i.imgur.com/LmjyBgx.gif)  I really wanted to race him to the line.  It would have been a close one had we stayed together till the line.

Race 2 proved to be more difficult.  Now down 5pp (-15hp) and starting on pole, I was worried about turn 1.  As i figured, I did not get off the line well and was getting beat by a few cars heading into 1.  Next came some laughter.  I dropped to about 4st by turn 1, but things looked ok...  Oops, they weren't.  I couldn't see, but someone hit Stepper, who was 6 inches from my right door already.  We both go off, with a few others, but regain composure quickly.  Now back at the end of the field, I had a lot of work to catch Wizard, who took off from the start.  I followed Stepper for a while, as we climbed back up to the front.  Around lap 6 (i think) I was finally able to make a pass on Stepper (wasn't easy).  The rest of the race, I hunkered down and was determined to catch Wizard.  Some where around lap 10, I am knocking on Wiz's back door and make a pass going into turn 1.  After that, I just kept an eye on my mirror and drove a couple clean laps to finish the race.

Can't wait till week 2!  :)

Thanks again Turbo.

Good events Friday night!  Had a lot of fun in both of those races.

Turbo, the first race in Monza was a blast with you and I swapping spots almost the entire race.  I made a few small mistakes in that last turn, and the 3rd time it was a big enough mistake for you to pull away for good, haha.  Tons of fun though.

The second race, I was pretty much an also ran.  I always have a very difficult time on that track and I didn't spend any time trying to tune the suspension.  So I just did the best I could to stay out of the contenders' ways ^-^

Looking forward to Part II

I also discovered last night that the Speed 6 is only a 5 speed.

I thought this was funny when I read it 2 weeks ago...

But it just occurred to me that, in that very brief sentence, you've summed up the entire existence and history of TVR. Well Done.

TVR should have changed it's slogan to:

My 14 laps was probably based on a lap time around 1'47 - 1'48. We did a few laps after Nurburgring's race, but I forget the lap times.

Low to mid 1:41's are good laps, I was having some difficulty even getting back to the 44's after a few bad adjustments though.....

I haven't done any practice for this at all. Actually, I haven't run a single racing lap since Sarthe. All I've done is a few drift events for $$$$. My current room arrangement isn't good for gaming. Hopefully, it's fixed this weekend.

I'm ready to go tonight though. Practice or not, the TVRs will hit the track at Fuji then Suzuka. Feel free to practice in my lounge any time before the event. If I'm there early, I'll probably be running Suzuka before 9, Fuji after 9..

Quali: 9:30pm (Fuji)
Race 1: 9:45 (Fuji)
Race 2: 10:25 (Suzuka) - grid places -based on Fuji finish positions. We'll line up on track in free run, then start the race.

Yep, a constant battle between rampant understeer mixed with low speed power oversteer. Fun racing.

Both races were exciting, in their own ways. Fried qualified first at Fuji, but Max had luck and speed, so he held a lead over Fried most of the way. Stepper callenged for a while i think, but dropped back, and I actually got in front of him for the first time at the end of lap 14. There appeared to be a few races going on through the pack. That's always a good thing.

Max had it all at Suzuka too. Fried recovered from the early laps really well and challenged for the win, but max took it at the end by a few tenths. Spectators reported an enjoyable battle at the front. Dawson, Chrome, Dude, Feldynn, and I went through numerous position changes, along with off track excursions. Eventually we split up, and I chased down Stepper for third, again.

So, Max and Fried led the way, big time. Very well done guys. These tracks can be brutal in their own ways. A few guys had bad luck, on track and network, I think. That's too bad. If there's a drawback to close, fast racing, it's that a mistake can screw by-standers, or yourself.

Thanks for playing my little game. Good job everyone.

One more week in the TVR. We're off to America for Indy Speedway and DRC. That should be interesting.

(oh, results updated)

Another fun night, thankyou Turbo!

Highlights and lowlights from my PoV were this, Suzuka was definitely the hardest race of the two for me as (like many I think) it's not a track I'm very good with so the majority of the time I was racing against my own ineptitude :).  I managed to be clean for the first 4-6 laps and gained a couple of places as others went off and then it was my turn, catch the grass here or a bit of sand there and lose varying amounts of time.  While I ended up finishing kinda high I think we lost a couple of people to disconnects so that likely influenced the results since I certainly didn't drive a 4th place race :laugh.

Fuji on the other hand was a different animal, while again it's not a track I'm all that great on I did reasonably well for once.  Throughout the race there was a pretty good battle for 5th to 8th places if I remember right, varying combinations of me, Chrome, Wizard and Dude (others too probably) jockeying for position for the majority of the race.  So long as I could hold onto someone's tail down the straight bits I managed to keep up and that really paid dividends at the end of the race as 5th, 6th and 7th weren't decided until the finish line.

Chrome was ahead going into the final turn with Wizard right on his tail and me close behind.  As we pulled onto the straight Wizard pulled in behind Chrome for quick draft, since I was slightly further behind I think I got a better run out of the corner and locked in behind them both for the drag to the line.  As we were bearing down on the line Wizard made his move around Chrome and started to edge by, I was closing fast with a little more ground to cover but fast running out of track.  Hoping there was enough track left I took my chance and slotted my car between Chrome and Wizard, we rolled over the line 3 wide with less than 0.070 seconds between the 3 of us!

Goos times indeed!

I was pissed last night, I had my car handling perfectly. I could put that car anywhere I wanted it when I wanted it there and I got taken out on lap two. I made every effort to position my self away from a car that I could clearly see was erratic and that car crossed four carwidths of track and T-Bone me.

That is two crashouts in as many races, I'm withdrawing my entry from the series.

Yeah, that's one of the corners where you really have to be careful about power oversteer. Fuji has a few of them. That picture shows what happens if you don't get it right. If you're lucky, it's a one car incident. You were unlucky here, and the erratically spinning #64 almost knocked you into next week.

That took me out of contention in a hurry. I may have been slow but I was accurate enough and easy enough on my tires, it was a top five car that was lost due to recklessness.

Now if Wizard - the following orange car - would have followed suit, it would have made for a visually amusing clip. Three of the same car, similar colors, synchronized spinning - kind of like a team sport. When's the next Olympics?

I'm sorry for that incident.  I hadn't had a problem with that turn in any of my practice runs.  However, on that lap I got on the throttle a bit aggressively and lost traction when driving over the gators.  Really nothing more I can say than that :(

If it's any consolation to Ronin I can't attend the last two races, I didn't realize when I signed up that I'd be out of town for a wedding that weekend.  Hope there aren't any hard feelings :-[

It is not. I am not among the fastest of drivers in this group, I enter into points series with the intention to be in contention in the points. I am not able beat a handful of drivers on the track regularly but I am consistent enough I look to hang with them in the points and possibly get them in the points. Now, with two races trashed and two FTS's The final two races can not help me, my season is over and the paperwork for my resignation is on Turbos desk. I simply do not enjoy this car enough to warrant attending for the shear sake of driving with the guys. I did not have any fun in the two races I started and I have ample reason to believe that the fun factor has been completely negated for the last two races. So no, it is of no consolation to me as I will not be there. I figure I'll save the guys two races of bitching and complaining by me over the radio.

I'm sure I can come up with a reason to bitch and complain, so we should be fine Ronin. I can always find Something to complain about.

However, my cellar-dwellers have left, and I have my gaming space returned to me. No more moving crap around to get ready for racing in my living room. One less reason to bitch.

The last 2 races should be interesting. They'll have their own challenges. We learned that Indy oval is fine with this setup, but as usual, a crowded track + high speed drafting requires careful navigating. Daytona Road Course has corner 1 and the bus top, plus a number of those power oversteer corners to watch out for.

As I mentioned, the Original and Week 2 posts on page 1 are updated. Fried has a comfy lead in the standings, and I'm second. Wizard and Stepper are tied for fourth, and could easily catch me. Feldynn is in fifth, and could move up the standings. We know Dude and Chrome have the pace, so they cold move up the standings if luck stops kicking their asses.

See y'all Friday night!

First Practice Session:

I spent over 45 effing minutes trying to get my PS3 to output video to my TVs (moved from one to another last night) TVs kept saying 'no signal' or 'unsupported'. 45 EFFING minutes. I had to change cables and do some stupid effing reset thing on the system. (it only resets the video output, I think) So I got to put 15 minutes into driving, which ended up being the STUPID Red Bll X2010 challenge at Monza, which I easily got Bronze at again, but had to cheat (take advantage of some chicanes) to get silver. STUPID EFFING SYSTEM

I feel better now.

I do need some clarification. Power limiter is only 1 percent adjustable at any time (99%-100%). Is that correct?

Yes, please.

I haven't practiced this week, but I'm ready to go. Indy should be fun.

Remember, Max and Fried should be both at 415hp. If you 2 use max aero, that's Max 580pp. If you use lower aero, your pp may be lower.

Same for everyone else - who are all at 430hp. With max aero, you would be at 585pp. With lower aero, your PP will be lower. This probably wasn't clear for the first 2 weekends, but it isn't a big deal.

Go get your oil change and come to my lounge whenever you're ready (tonight). I'll be on as soon as I can, definitely some time after 8.

Thanks to everyone who came out and raced the TVR's. That there be some fun shit.

Just 7 drivers out for week 3, with mixed results. Except for fried, he won both. I qualified first at Indy oval - narrowly beating Chrome. A few of us had some good laps together, and Fried and I stayed together until the end. My tires were toast though, so I couldn't stay with him in the final corners to make a really good run.

DRC was...interesting. I think the only one who drove 'well' the entire race was Fried, though Hotstepper did pretty well to take a relatively easy second, after Chrome, Dude and I took several off track excursions and left him alone. Combinations of the four of us had some good laps together. Close, fast racing. Dude and I battled for third near the end, we both crashed on lap 15, and he made it by me for the podium. It was a brutal race, but fun racing with those 3 guys. Nosoks and Feldynn were there too, but they had even less luck than me and Dude.

 :stoopid:

It's been a fun and interesting series, nice to get out and drive that car too as it's one I'd not tried before this!  Speaking of the DRC, I was doing ok for the first half of the race (even closing in on Chrome who was in 4th at the time) and the car was handling pretty well too but sadly the driver wasn't :laugh.

I kind of hit a wall about lap 7 and started making silly mistakes one after the other, missing breaking points or turn-ins, trying to take sections too fast and such, and dropped back some.  I was getting a bit tired and losing concentration so rather than risking wiping out (and possibly taking a front runner with me when I got lapped) I decided to park it up in a safe spot and rest up for the midnight show :D.

Goos times :).
