Ferrari and McLaren have been locked in a heated Gran Prix rivalry for over 60 years. Their F1 battles have been some of history’s greatest. However only in the last 2 ½ decades have these opponents faced off on the streets, with road cars that have been the standard of the world. This race series will square off two of these makers greatest sports cars ever made, the Ferrari 458 Italia and McLaren MP4-12C (renamed for 2012 to 12C). One is hard pressed to find a higher performing mid engine V8 powered rear wheel drive sports car in the $250-300k price range than these two.

We will be taking these cars in stock form and facing off around the world at some of the finest tracks available (within GT5). So pick your ride, strap in and join a side of this legendary motorsports rivalry!

Oooh! Not sure I can 100% commit that far ahead just yet and I need to check I don't suck horribly in the stock car but put me down for the McLaren Fax Machine please :). I don't foresee anything right now that might interfere with attendance but September is a good few weeks away.
Are paint / wheels are ok to change, or did you want them stock too?
-
You have free reign to change the paint/wheels!
-
If it's okay that I might not make every race. Then I would like to sign up. I heart Maca. :)
-
sure am interested, no promises given the issues I had in the last Wed series
car TBD
-
I think I can do this. I'm leaning towards the Ferrari but I'll need to test first. I'm not sure that I've ever driven either car.
-
(http://www.fishing.net.nz/asp_forums/uploads/48069/Knockers.jpg)
-
lol, what the heck does that have to do with anything?
Dude, its perfectly fine if you can't make them all.
I did some testing today and ran 3 laps at every track with both cars. The car that I ran first will be noted with an asterisk Here's what I came up with, figured this information can help people decide how the cars drive:
Track McLaren Ferrari
Fiji 1:39.446* 1:39.344
Cote D'Azur 1:37.489 1:38.021*
Suzuka 2:05.497* 2:05.101
Tokyo Reverse 1:44.576 1:43.459*
Spa 2:23.817* 2:23.458
Indy RC 1:32.925 1:32.966*
Nurburgring GP/F 2:03.012* 2:02.500
Monza 1:49.314 1:50.382*
Laguna Seca 1:26.051* 1:26.155
In my opinion the McLaren is definitely faster in a straight line (which isn't hard to figure out looking at the power to weight ratio). However it is geared significantly taller than the Ferrari so the difference isn't as big as it looks on paper. The Ferrari seems to handle better, and it is easier to put the power down in that car due to its low torque nature. On the flip side the McLaren's torque curve is incredibly flat and its easy to kick the tail on in 3rd gear (depending on the turn) even on fresh tires. I definitely think as tire wear progresses the McLaren will be the trickier of the two to drive. It's also worth noting that the McLaren is more stable under braking thanks to it's active rear air brake
-
I have to clear it with the family 1rd but for now sign me up. I think Wednesdays are clear but I need to check. Both my boys are going to new schools this year but I don't foresee any problems.
Car to be determined.
-
List updated LLF.
As to picking cars, let's have everyone nail down what they want to drive by 8/28 if possible.

Lookey there... the Ferrari got a .458 !!!
I will keep this in mind as the time gets closer and let you know if I can join up. Sounds fun and with no tuning, should be easy to prep for! I'd lean toward the Ferrari just because of familiarity with the car, but then again, I should probably pick something that will provide some adventure, not comfort. I'll ahve to ponder that!
-

Yeah, I did notice the .458 lap time when I recorded it, hahaha.
Sounds good.
-
If I'm racing again by then, I think I'd like to take the 458 for some laps.
-
noted!
-
i see the field is filling with Ferraris so I'll choose a McLaren for the sake of variety(and with out any testing (http://i.imgur.com/LmjyBgx.gif) )
-
Good man! They're both good choices, but practicing in advance is a good idea to learn how to handle their quirks. :D

Marlboro Ferrari, broken and ready to go.

ONE WEEK REMINDER.
This series starts next Wednesday, looking forward to seeing all your smiling faces :D
-
It just now occurred to me that I'll almost definitely be missing the September 18st race as my parental units are visiting, might possibly miss the 25st race too but I probably won't know for sure until nearer the time.
Oh also I hope you don't mind Dawson, I added the calendar entries for first 4 weeks :).
-
Thanks Feldynn, you're quite the gentlman for doing that, and giving a heads up! ^-^
-
:laugh Just realized I've been practicing at the wrong track. I thought Monza was first. Ok guess I better add to tonight's to do list "spend time at Fuji".
-
I plan to tonight as well. Haven't taken my McLaren for a spin in over 2 weeks, whooops! :-X
-
Any idea yet how many laps we are going to run? I don't see a lap count. I would not mind doing a full lenght practice race tonight.
-
Sorry about that dlr! 30 laps!
-
The new shifter for my G27 arrived last week and sat on the futon in the mancave until yesterday. I finally got around to hooking it up. Subsequently, I turned on the PS3 for just the second time since the beginning of May.
I had to install two updates before I could get on the track and once I did, I realized how bad I've become. I'm actually wondering if one of the updates changed any of the physics because I literally couldn't keep the car on the track.
It's hard to put into words how bad I am right now and how fish-out-of-waterish I feel on the track. In the couple of seasonal events I did, the only way I could stop into corners was to bump into the car in front or to miss the turn entirely and hit a wall. I don't recall the cars reacting like they did last night.
To be honest, I haven't checked on the details of this race, but I'd still like to be the caboose if I can make it because Hey yelled at me the last time I gave up racing for a while and I don't want him mad at me again. If the race fills up, please remove me and let someone else have my spot, but if there is still room by the start of the race, keep me listed and I'll try to make it.
Also, please accept my apologies in advance, because I really have no idea what's going on when I'm behind the wheel. I feel like a complete newbie.
-
because Hey yelled at me the last time I gave up racing for a while and I don't want him mad at me again.
I don't think he will be.... I assume you don't know that hey has quit playing entirely? He hasn't played since early July and has no plans on coming back.

We chatted about that a few weeks ago, but we're still buds so he's not opposed to being mad at me for things.
-
My apologies for being late with my car choice, only just got a chance to run a few laps in each car. I'll take a 458.
-
Kudos to anyone who can tolerate the sound of the McLaren for 45-60 minutes of racing. Simply dreadful.
-
^^No problem PeyePete!
^^The Italia definitely sounds better. However I think the McLaren sounds pretty good...from the chase cam POV. Unfortunately I usually use the bumper cam :P
Rick, I understand you have to reacclimate yourself, however don't forget you can drop your worst performance. I'm sure you'll be up to speed by the 2nd race! ;)
TunaPhreak, dlrws6, nosoks, DudeTuna and myself did a few practice races last night and if they're any indication tonight is gonna be a lot of fun! ;D
-
I would like to join in the fun! I'll be in the 458.
-
Glad to have you!
If everyone can state their colors I'll post that up so we don't have any twins. Not necessary but thought it would help avoid confusion.
-
Err, as soon as I buy my car I'll post the colour! :-[ I'll have to see how it looks in the paint but I'm probably leaning towards a dark blue / black probably with white wheels though if that helps ;D.

My intent is to be on the track (I certainly wouldn't call it racing at this point) tonight in an Abu Dhabi Blue Italia.
-
Bravo
-
I'm not sure if I will be able to make it for tonight's race. I have a very busy evening with the kids.
I'm going to try my best but don't wait for me.
Also sorry about the car but I will be running the 458 in yellow. I have a Maple Leaf blue version but it's all modded up and I don't want 2 of the same colour in my garage.
Also I think the yellow looks :cool

I've got a mystery on my hands. After the practice last night I checked my car and I have over 200 miles on it. So it should be fully borke in. I even lost almost 10hp in the last race due to aging oil. So I did an oil change and I maxed out at 588hp. Which is shy of whats listed in the front page. I may have to buy one and rush a break in tonight. ???
As for colors I actually have several planned for the series. Starting tonight with my Marl-burro a/k/a smoke'n donkey sponsored car. Sophia white with TOR red/chrome wheels. Assuming that is I don't have to make an emergency car purchase.
-
And now I notice that it's Fuji GT which is the version I have never run a single lap on.
Maybe someone can give me a heads up as to the speed through Dunlop with this layout?
-
I don't have a speed to provide but assuming your asking about the one turn that changes on the GT version. I was switching between 3th and 4rd gear all night last night in the 458.
Also, yes I have driven a 4rd lately. :)
-
LLF, thanks for the reply. I hope you can make it tonight! As to the track, if you're familiar with the other Fuji layout this one is even easier ;D Your entry speed for that different turn is around 80 mph if I recall correctly. On the front straight with these cars I would brake at the 2nd brake marker (and closer to first marker as the tires wear).
dlr, I'm not sure what's the case with your hp. Guess you need more break in time? :-\

Double check the power limiter. If that's not it you can try a engine refresh.

We can run in the back together because my car is also maxed out at 588HP. I didn't do an engine refresh because I didn't figure it needed one, but I'll try that when I get home.

Make mine a red 458. :laugh
-
I would like to enter this if it's not too late.
Car would be Ferrari. Color-Prestige Blue Metallic.
Thanks!

I'm out. My fucking cat just ate through my brand new shifter cable, so I'm without a wheel again. I can't fucking believe it.

mine is green, forget the exact flavour cuz I'm out of Imperial green metallic (hint hint) :)

I don't think its a mileage thing. Every car I've tested/broke in in the past reach max power by or before 200 miles. I may try the engine rebuild. The only thing I can think of is that I've had the car since late 2010 early 2011. I wonder if the difference may come from one of the many updates the game has had. :-\
One way or another I'll get it sorted out. :)
-
My McLaren is being broken in by one of my Bobs as we speak, the official colour is "Sapphirschwarz" from Opel (aka Black Sapphire, from Vauxhall) and is a sort of black / blue colourshifty thingum :).

I briefly considered what to do going forward since the fucking cat has eaten through 3 iPhone cords, 2 shifters, and too many of my son's little gadgets to count. I thought of wrapping the cords in something, then thought, "Fuck it, I shouldn't have to do this." There's currently something on my Facebook page about getting rid of the cat.

fun=fub=fun thanks Dawson 8) and all you cool racers
-
Awesome race! The cars definitely seemed evenly matched and I was so happy to see such a large turnout. Sometimes you guys make me so happy I just wanna :'(

Official results from race #1 will be posted later today.

I was looking forward to getting back on the track, so I'm sorry I missed this. Last night I sent a message to the guy on eBay I bought the last shifter from in hopes I can get another soon. Haven't heard back from him, but I doubt I'll make the next one, but am looking forward to the third race.
-
That was the most fun I have ever had finishing last. ^-^
Sorry about my Romain Grosjean start.
-
I'm a bit amazed that you were so drunk, haha. You had the fastest lap of the race! 1:36.105. You beat my best, 1:36.145 by 0.040 seconds
Perhaps you're an occasional drunken race master...just not long enough for a whole race (http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss272/james_mikel/STGT%20forum/lol1.gif)
Results posted on first page. Lap count for race #2 is also up!! :)

I'm still at a loss about my 458 situation. I have one car that I had intended to use but did not. That is stuck at 588hp. The one I did use did make it to the 592 limit.
458 #1 has just over 200 miles on it and was purchased in December of 2010. I've only used it at one drive in and practice for last night's race. In its current state I cannot change oil or do an engine refresh. The car appears to be stuck at 588hp.
458 #2 I bought last night. At 161 miles it had 589hp. At the end of the race it had 589hp and 260ish miles on the car. One oil change later it was up to 592hp.
For the next few days any one is welcome to see for themselves. I've shared both cars. The white one is my original 458 and the Pink one is the one I used last night repainted for the upcoming race.
I've never come across a car that needed more than 200 miles to fully break in but I send one of the Bobs out with the car on Saturday and see what another 200 miles will do.
The lesson may be don't trust the cars you bought back in 2010. :-\
Also the race was a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to the next one. :laugh

Coincidentally enough, I drove past a McLaren MP4-12C on the afternoon drive home from work today. What a coincidence :o

Coincidentally enough, I drove past a McLaren MP4-12C on the afternoon drive home from work today. What a coincidence :o
Was it parked on the side of the road, out of gas? ;D
Also great turn out and great race too! I managed to hang up with the front group for a few laps then I started to make the odd silly little mistake that eventually led to a bigger mistake and finally an entirely boneheaded blunder where by I crashed into the pit wall due to too much speed coming in for my 2nth stop and had to do another lap on bad tires.
Still, was fub.. goos times!
-
I'm mystified as well. I bought a new 458 a week ago and put about 100 miles on it. Had it up to 584. Then I put another 75 miles on it and it went down to 577hp. With only 175 miles on it and it goes down? Gave it an oil change and at race start was at 582.
I think I did ok considering a 6-10 go disadvantage not to mention it was my 1rd race since June 26.
Good fun Dawson and I think even though I hate Laguna seca I think the 458 will rock there.
Congrats to all of the podium racers and I want to protest the drunk guys result. I think he handed me 10th (http://i.imgur.com/LmjyBgx.gif).
-
my McLaren is now Imperial Green Metallic. Special thanks goes to Peyepete (did anyone else notice he has 4 e's in his name?) who sent a couple of 45gal (205litre for those on metric) drums of that most wondrous colour

As sorta stated above next week’s color will be Matte Pink.
Thanks to a special deal between Sitting Duck Racing and the F. B. I. (not to be cornfused with the "FBI"), we’ll be honoring the unofficial breast awareness week by dressing the car all in pink. During this upcoming week's festivities feel free to stop by the Sitting Duck souvenir both where we will have exclusive toys, clothing and collectables in which all proceeds will go to advance awareness of this great cause.
Sitting Duck Racing is proud to be able rise to the occasion and be a part of such an important program.

Just a heads up on the weight ballast thing.
There were 3 or 4 of us left in the post race room Wednesday night and we switched the track over to Laguna. I thought I would try adding my ballast to see what the car was like.
It would appear that adding weight is considered to be tuning, as the game would not allow me on track with the extra weight.
There may be more options, but two I can think of.
1-reduce horsepower (this could possibly end up improving tire wear though).
2-just use the honor system and turn off the 'no tuning' button.
Thanks Dawson for putting this series up. With the ballast penalties, it has the potential for a very close points race at the end.
Should make for some goos times indeed!
-
^good point, and I have considered that. I think we can use the honor system.

no one likes my jokes :'(
Did anyone do some practice laps?
-
Sorry no practice laps. Just a heads up, I may not be able to make it tonight.
-
I got the joke. I just have had little time to post. I got some practice laps but nothing beyond 10 continuous laps. :(
-
Apparently tonight just wasn't my night (http://i.imgur.com/LmjyBgx.gif), when I first joined the room I could people showing "on track" in the driver list but the track was completely empty, exited and rejoined the room which seemed to fix that problem but then I got disconnected during qualifying. Hoping it was just the interweb having a bit of gas that passed I forged ahead from the rear, had some great back & forth close racing with Wyld Animal for a few laps with Phreak nipping at our heals, sadly I think on lap 14 as I was coming out of the pits I got disconnected again.. not sure if it was the PSN dropping me or my internet dropping the PSN, ironically I logged back in briefly to say goodnight and got disconnected AGAIN just as I was trying to leave the lounge :lolz.
Thanks for a goos 1rd 1/3st of a race though :D.
-
Too bad about the disco Feldynn, it turned out to be a great race with all the lead changes based on pit stops. Dawson, F1 and Bada where closing in at the end, but I guess I got lucky with a 2 pit stop strategy.
Thanks for the fun racing.
P.I. Pete
-
good job Pete, I went with 3 stops and got behinder and behinder no matter how hurrieder I went.
-
Nice win Pete! I had a fun race, but wish I had been a bit closer to others. When I wasn't spinning out I was putting down consistent 1:25's and 1:26s (http://i.imgur.com/LmjyBgx.gif) Had 2 very big time consuming self caused incidences early on that put me back about 25 seconds unfortunately. And then another spin on the 2nd to last lap...barely held onto second ahead of TunaPhreak :o
Race results posted on first page.
Race 3 lap count being posted shortly...

Sorry I missed this one, it sounds like it was fun. I had to go out of town on Tuesday and should have been back last night around 6:00 but was delayed and pulled in the driveway at 9:00 on the button. I could have run down and fired it up but to tell the truth after a 5 1/2 hour drive I was done.
I plan on being there next week as I've always liked Monza.
-
Thanks for that. And I can understand. Online racing is fun, but after a longish road trip of driving a vehicle last thing you want to do is sit down again and do it virtually, haha.
BTW I'm making a slight change to the penalty ballast system, see the first page for revised weights.
-
I just watched the replay. 11 lead changes amongst 5 drivers......that's what makes a great series.

^good news as always!
Anybody up for practicing tonight? I need to get some laps in! ^-^
-
For what it's worth, my new new shifter (yes, I've now ordered two new ones in the last three weeks) arrived. I like to put things off so it sat downstairs for a couple days after it arrived and over the weekend I took it upstairs. I'm thinking tonight I might take it out the box, rub it with Bitter Apple to keep the cat away, and possibly tomorrow fire up the PS3 again. My goal is to make Wednesday's race and fix no worse than second to last.
-
Any idea on a lap count yet?
-
^^that's great to hear Rick! Monza isn't a very difficult track (from a technical standpoint) so that should help. :P
sorry about that ;)
29 laps!
-
It just now occurred to me that I'll almost definitely be missing the September 18st race as my parental units are visiting, might possibly miss the 25st race too but I probably won't know for sure until nearer the time.
Just quoting myself to let you guys know I'm still probably not going to make it to tonight's race, there's an outside chance I "might" make it but if I'm not online by the start of qualifying then please assume I won't be there and don't wait for me :).
-
Thanks buddy.
I hadn't forgotten, and I felt even worse for your disco last week because I knew you would be missing this one as well :(
-
I went out for some laps late last night. I think my front tires will go maybe 20 laps, but my left rear is running on threads on the 10st lap. That said, I've got no skills and am very rusty. Is anyone/everyone able to run 29 laps with just one stop?
-
2 stopping here for sure, drivers rear tire the culprit as well.
-
Same here Rick. Because of the rear tires my car becomes quite the handful a few laps before pitting! :o
-
Looking iffy for me but will try to make it
-
I would like to run. I've sent dawson a fr. Ferrari Orange blue wheels
-
I was just looking at the standings and it shows me with 42 points or something close to that. I also read something that says if you miss a race you get 10 points. I've missed both races, shouldn't I only have 20 points?
-

Agreed, I think he was giving you disconnect points because technically you were out for mechanical failure (broken clutch) vs not being physically able to make it, which you were if not for the kitteh...
But you complaining? I'll second a vote to give you only 20 pts :P
-
I did something in the race tonight I've never done before. I completely mismanaged my fuel. I ran a good first stint, then my race went to shit. I knew as soon as I clicked ok I was fucked. On the second stint I had no choice but to pit after 8 laps, which meant my final stint was going to be 11 laps on tires that are good for 9.5.
During the whole second part of the run, I continued looking at the fuel gauge trying to figure out what the hell happened, and in the process, I played in the sand a couple times and spun once.
3th place was far better than I could have hoped for after the gas debacle. Well done, F1, maybe we can do it again sometime.
-
Could someone please post the results. In a drunken miscue Thursday night I deleted the results over here. :drunk

I also added a tally for Manufacturer's Cup (why not?)
Finally, thank you to Rick for pointing out a few scoring errors (some systematic, some arithmetic). Everything should be correct now.
-
I'm iffy this week due to chauffeuring duties, but schedule unclear. My laptimes in practice were also iffy so might be a good one to miss (http://i.imgur.com/LmjyBgx.gif)
-
I hope I can drop the 150kg I carried last week. :o (http://i.imgur.com/LmjyBgx.gif)
-
^^It happens. And this track doesn't rub some people the right way :P
^you're ballast free now!
Did a few practice races with TunaPhreak last night. Lap times seemed quite similar between us, but its easy to get separation if a driver cuts a turn "just" a bit too much and hits the inside Armco. With a low tank of fuel I was able to click off a mid 1:35 time, 1:36 flat with a most full load. Majority of laps were in the 1:37-1:38 range.
Plan on 37 laps this week. And after the main event there will be a bonus race! 10 laps in 100cc Karts (http://i.imgur.com/LmjyBgx.gif)
-
I'm sorry guys but I think I'm going to withdraw from the series. I just don't have the time these days with my family obligations.
I really did want to run the series but just can't seem to find the seat time. The 1rd race was actually the 1th time since June that I turned on the game. It might just be depression after doing so shitty in every race this year.
I have gotten the go ahead from the lovely :nagnag wife that if I sell the stationary bike (which never gets used) then I can set up my rig in the other room and actually be able to practice. That would be a good idea before running a race.
I want to apologize to Dawson for not being there, I know how much of an effort it is to do this. I hope everyone has a great series and good luck to all.
-
Thanks for letting us know Leaf. Your departure will be missed!
BTW all, there was an error in the finishing order of the last race. Updating/correcting that shortly.
-
I may miss tonight. I've got to work late and have quite a bit to do after work as well. :'(
-
I think I can do this with just two stops, but it'll be ugly. What's the plan for everyone else...2 stops or 3 stops?
-
what time do you guys generally start? if its manageable for me, i might be able to step in for someone's absence. i miss competitive racing :D
-
I'm sorry I am unable to attend tonight.
-

I tried 13 laps yesterday Rick, I agree that the last couple of laps are a handful. Not sure which way right now, I guess it will depend on how many times I get the tires red. :-\ :laugh

Great race last night everyone! Great to have a newcomer in Metal.
Looks like mmacek96 had a disco on the first lap. Sucks, but at least it wasn't on the last lap!
Results will be posted later today ;D
Results from race 4 now posted!
-
Had a pretty good race in the lower half of the field, I think Rick and I were on the same pitstop strategy so we had a pretty decent battle going all race long though he did his final pit a lap before I did mine (mostly because I wasn't paying attention LOL). Last stint we were were both chasing F1 around, he and I pitted together but his pit crew just got the jump on mine and we almost had an accident in pit lane :).
Goos times for sure!
-
wish i didn't have to stop 2 extra times to top off my fuel. Whoops! lol
-
I was humbled and horrified during last night's race. Before qualifying started, I expected a long night because with the extra weight I was carrying, I wasn't even close to the fastest laps. Then I qualified third and thought I'd get a spot on the podium.
That delusion of grandeur was put to rest midway through the first lap. My car and the other two up front started putting distance on the rest of the pack, but a minute in, I had to slow not to kill the car in second because we both wanted to same line and he had a run on me. That let the guys behind catch right up.
I tried to catch my friends up front, but went too hard on the brakes in that tight section and started fishtailing, right into the wall. Welcome to last place.
It never really improved. I did nothing but hit walls all night and only once came close to my qualifying lap. Bad night for me.
-
Cote D'Azur is possibly the worst track to carry extra weight on. Very tough to overcome. But look on the brightside, as you don't have any extra ballast for Suzuka!
-
I adore that track, but it doesn't feel the same way about me.
-
I'm very sorry I missed last night. I am clearing my calender for Suzuka 10/09/13. See you there. :)
-
And speaking of calendars.. tada, post mid-season break dates added :).
-
Was that a disco or did I get a call from MichaelWaltripRacing saying "You gotta get outta the race now." The difference.. a disco is an act of SonyServers where as what Clint Boyer did was comical.
:laugh
-
I'm confused with that comment. Do you have more than one screen name?
Lap count for race #5 posted!
-
Anyone do some practice laps? Phreak and I ran a "scrimmage" race last night and it didn't go so well for me. (http://i.imgur.com/LmjyBgx.gif)
I can really feel that extra 150kg!
-

I can really feel that extra 150kg!
I'll probably get on for some practice tonight.
I'm also wondering about my weight ballast. I ran the last race at +100kg and finished 4th.
Thought I would be able to remove 50kg, but it didn't say to do so in the results post.
-
You are correct bada. I was looking at the wrong race results at that time I guess.
Thanks for bringing that to my attention. Just 50 kg ballast for ya.

Fair warning to everyone: there is a PSN update that came out recently. Make sure you have done this well in advance. It only took Phreak about 5 minutes to do, but for some reason it took my PS3 about an hour to update :P

Highly likely I won't be home in time to make Wednesday's race.
-
at this point I'm clear for take off.... looking forward to an exciting raxe
-
Stupid effing PSN :(. Got disco'd once right early on in the race then again while I was watching, I sure hope they get all that shit fixed once GT6 comes out!

All I can say is...awesome race, awesome series and great diving by everyone. Thanks Dawson.

^^&^Thanks guys. It definitely seems like we're all a closely matched bunch!
Stupid effing PSN :(. Got disco'd once right early on in the race then again while I was watching, I sure hope they get all that shit fixed once GT6 comes out!
I was sorry to see that Feldynn, seems like you've been riddled with network issues all season long :( I know it's no consolation but network lag booted me far, far into the sand on lap 2 and from then on I was more or less the 9th place anchor. That is, until a few fellas miscalculated their fuel loads (http://i.imgur.com/LmjyBgx.gif)
-
I have a doctors appointment and there is a good chance I will not make it tonight.
-
Does anyone know the lap count for tonight?
-
Sorry about that, I was down in Florida for 5 days.
lap count is 29!
-

Thank you!
Mid-high 2:03's for me with ballast.
-
i have a quiz in my last class tonight, and to make everyone stay, they issue it at the end. I might have to give myself extra time to finish (its to bring up a previous test grade) so i don't think i'll be able to make the start time tonight :( sorry fellas
-
Assuming my internet / the PSN figures itself out in the next hour or less I'll be there. I logged on just now and apparently have 0 friends, or at least 0 friends have loaded on my list yet.
-
I'm not gonna make it. I just got home and I'm exhausted.
-
Sorry you and Metal missed this one! Was another close race!!
Also wondering what happened to RickS95 and mmacek96 :-\
-
I would like to apologise again for the couple of rear bumps I gave to Dawson and Soks during the race, I should have compensated better for the braking distances / lack of downforce / changing braking points when racing so close so sorry again guys.
Other than that it was quite a good race, as usual I was my own worst enemy and spun out a couple of times when I really shouldn't have and then made a complete hash of pitstop / fuel strategy, but that aside it was goos times :). Thanks Dawson, looking forward to Tokyo next week!
-
Can someone explain to me WTF is the deal with mmacek96 ? Is he the same person as waverunner*tuna?
-
I'll tell you wats up
1> Yes I am waverider everyone knows that round here.
2> I've never raced w/ that ID I figured before GT5 dies I would use that ID at least once.
3> At Cote D Azure I was rammed in the back bumper hard on the first lap, in the first, second, and third turns. Hard not a tap that torqued Me off.
4> Then I was disco'd.
5> Didn't know it was that serious of a series.
Sorry If I caused You any Grief.

OOPS wrong thread before

bad news... I'm almost out of wine and bacon...next week then
-
Great to hear!
Lap count for tomorrow night is 32
-
:FUCKing women..... new plan, now we're going again...... sorry
-
:'(
-
I won't be home in time for tonight's race. :( Have fun and I'll see you at Indy. ^-^
-
I'll be there but I'll be slow. I don't think I've run more than 20 laps there since I played GT3 on a regular basis.
I don't expect to miss any more races.
-
^^damn, sorry man. See ya next week :P
^I feel like this is one of the easier tracks to learn. I haven't raced it much either but I did do 20 laps there on Monday to practice.
-
Another great race.
Some close racing in the early laps, but I couldn't keep up with the guys up front so I went to a 2 stop strategy, figuring I could make 11, 11, and 10 laps work, it did, but boy did it ever come close with bada chasing me down on fresher tires.
Too bad Dawson and Feldynn got screwed with lag when they were running up front, cause they were setting a good pace, then bada and F1 took over.
Awesome racing guys, and thanks for the reminder F1.
-
I forgot to save the replay. Any chance someone could send it to me? Thanks in advance!

Unless I can convince the wife to pick up our buddy flying in from CO from the airport solo, I'm out this week :(
-
Mid-Term in class today. May or may not make it on time. Goos Luck Guys!
-
Argh... I'm not gonna make it either. I got too much going on tonight.
-
uhmmm........ did you guys get off Daylight saving time now??
Also... DST... the silliest idea since the invention of time
-
Still on DST, clocks go back this weekend.
-
Anyone able to enter online lounges? I'm not having any luck over here.
-
I can't make it tonight.
-
damn lot of no shows tonight. shit happens I guess
-
Those that did show got a lesson from the Feld Mann
-
That is the damned truth! Well done Feldynn, well done. Very impressive performance. Bada was quiet fast as well, for someone lugging around 100kg ballast.
Race results posted in the OP.
Unless anyone is opposed to it, I will be planning the series finale to run roughly 75 minutes total.
-
In case anyone forgot, for this race series only your best 8 finishes count (you get to drop your worst performance).
Assuming your worst performance is behind you this is what the standings are with one race left:
1 - badaboya1 - 312
2 - F1Cheetor - 305
3 - peyepete - 297
4 - WolfpackS2k - 290
5 - Feldynn - 251
5 - nosoks - 251
7 - TunaPhreak - 249
8 - WyldAnimal_ - 178
9 - dlrws6 - 170
10 - RickS95 - 140
11 - DudeTuna - 138
12 - metalfreak1520 - 124
-
Ahh thanks :), to be honest I was really surprised I did that well as IRC is usually not a good track for me hehe. Looking at the standings I see an interesting battle for 5th place shaping up there :D.
-
:D
-
Just a reminder for nosoks, and anyone else living in a time zone that doesn't have Daylight Savings, Sunday morning most of the US set their clocks back an hour.
-
thanks dawson got it...
also am I right in thinking I can remove my ballast?
-
Yeah man you're back to stock weight ;D
Lap count for the finale is 31! ^-^

Thanks Dawson / Wolf, for all the work you did through the series.
Also compliments to all the drivers, the sportsmanship and clean racing was excellent.
And congratulations to the winner, not sure who it is right now.

Lot of fun last night, lot of close racing, lot of great times!
If I learned one thing this series, it's determine my own damn fuel needs and don't trust Dawson! I had a much better finish lined up if I didn't have to pit on lap 31 for 10L of petrol, and also if I didn't drop to last a few tracks ago running completely out. At least I know I wasn't the only one with fuel issues this series ;)
That's what I get for being lazy, looking forward to the next one with you guys!

Thankyou for running this series Dawson and thanks to all the drivers too for helping make it a fun and exciting series to race in!

Way to go guys. Thank you Dawson for putting this together and sorry I missed so many races.

Thanks man. And sometimes it just can't be helped. Sure I'll be wheel to wheel with you again soon.
First off I want to thank everyone for the kind words towards myself and this race series. There was a lot of work involved in figuring out some rules and regulations to make it a fair event for all and I must say that it definitely all paid off. This series featured lots of closely matched racing and driver parity. 6 different race winners in 9 races shows you how close things were! All things considered the final points standings were fairly close, especially when you take note that guys like Feldynn, TunaPhreak, nosocks, WyldAnimal and dlrws6 all missed at least one race. We all battled through the occasional network disconnection or lag issue but much like mechanical failures in real life that is part of racing! The extreme use (I don't recall any other series with such high penalties) of ballast was perhaps one of the biggest keys to keeping the racing equal and I hope everyone appreciated it. The combination of fast tire/fuel consumption and race lengths led to pit stop strategy playing a key role at times. I know at least 4 or 5 of us cut it too close and ran out of fuel at one time or another. Twists like this keep things interesting.
I want to give special mention to TunaPhreak, as he helped me plan and set up regulations for this race. He doesn't post on here much but he spent almost as much time testing cars (to check equality) as I did, with at least a dozen practice races between the two of us to check tire wear, etc. He was also very helpful with setting up the ballast system. So thanks again.
I really like the concept of running 2 or 3 completely stock vehicles in a race series. It equalizes things a bit and helps people focus on just their driving, not continually working on a car set up. I feel like this series was a great send off of sorts for Gran Turismo 5 and in the future I will work to formulate another series similar to this one in GT6. A great thanks to everyone that participated in this series, as a great series formula is nothing without participants. Also a thanks to cr0wlft0fmurder, DudeTuna, metalfreak1520, RickS95 and mmacek96 for making the few races you could; I know scheduling is difficult.
Again, so glad everyone enjoyed this! I'm also 100% open to constructive criticism for anything that I could improve for a series in the future.
:)
