Title: Race 07
Post by: Wiz on September 16, 2012, 10:28:39 AM
Waiting for pCARS to go multiplayer, Brindle, REK and myself will most likely be playing around with this game.

If top notch graphics are your thing, this isn't the game for you.

If shitloads upon shitloads of tracks is your thing (It's my thing!), then this is the game for you!

The base game doesn't come with much, but the Mod Community was hard at work back in the day... I've just finished up downloading about 100+ tracks.  No variation bullshit here... 100+ unique tracks.

I'm going to start downloading cars next, theres bunches of those too.

The physics are good.  Simbin usually gets good reviews on their physics.

And here's the best part... because the graphics aren't superb, I'd be willing to bet that pretty much everyone here could run it!

Recommended:
Supported OS: Microsoft Windows XP Home/Pro, Windows Vista*
Processor: 3 GHz Intel Pentium IV or 100% compatible
Memory: 2 GB RAM
Graphics: DirectX 9 compatible graphics card with 512 MB memory, Nvidia 6800 or better
Sound: DirectX 9 compatible
Direct X Version: 9
Hard Drive: 2.5 GB free space
Input Devices: DirectX 9 compatible force feedback steering wheel

Another cool feature we like is that you can race online, but if there's only a few of you in the room, you can add AI to fill the field.  And the AI is actually good!  Brindle and I had a hard time winning when we were playing last night.

Here's a youtube vid I recorded today to wet your whistle...

Race 07 Caterham @ Sebring (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYioyJPfi9U#ws)

And here's the even bester part!  The game sells on Steam for a whopping $2.99!

Come join us!  It's goos times!!!

I was looking into this a while ago (before GT5) but it was going to be too much for my 2008 Macbook Pro.  I even emailed support.  I might be able to sneak $2.99 past my CFO but you guys are all eastern time zone, aren't you?

Yes.  But on the weekends I'm usually up until about 3 am.

I forgot to mention it has MoTeC support as well.  :)

We haven't bought any of the expansion packs yet.  We figured for $3 we'd try it out first and go from there.

I'll probably end up buying them sooner or later.

Is there an official website for this or is it like a Steam Exclusive game?

Also, is there a proper cockpit view or at least a choice of views?  The one in the first part of the vid I watched seemed a bit high for a bumper cam view.

Also, also (depending on the answer to the first question), what kind of cars / tracks does the base game come with?  IF there's a website I don't mind reading through it but I don't have my Steam info handy and Google is so hard!

Most of the info you're looking for can be found here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_07 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_07)

Also, official site here - http://www.race-game.org/race07/index.php (http://www.race-game.org/race07/index.php)

And yes, there is cockpit views.  I think you can adjust the height of the different views as well.

Holleee shitballs I found the 72km (~44 mi) version of the Targa Florio.

IRL fastest recorded lap ever - 33 minutes 36 seconds!

 :o

Can't wait to try it!

This track was mentioned here a long time ago by I can't remember who.  I think it was Hotstepper.  Whoever it was said it was a kick ass track.  I have to agree.  I believe this track will quickly climb into my top list of favorite tracks...

Old Charade...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tB0DUV2TqBw# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tB0DUV2TqBw#)

That was about my 4th or 5th lap at the track.  As I get better, the funnerer it will get!

Awesome. Drivers used to wear open-faced helmets at Charade because it was so windy it would make them physically sick.

Also, Targa Florio!? That's insane.

I'd try this, but my 2007 Laptop isn't up to the task.

Thanks Wizard (and Lonestar!), that cockpit view looks interesting (seemed like it had a slight fisheye effect, maybe like the Field of View was set too high or something, hopefully adjustable!) and if nothing else I could live with the bumper cam in that video or maybe even center-cockpit :).

I shall have to investigate this further!  Not that I need any more games to play right now but it does look very interesting, fingers crossed it'll work with that funny PS3 controller software!

Looks interesting, the WTCC type cars do make me fizz a little so I found my Steam info and have the demo downloading.  Was a bit confused with the cars though, on their official site they're touting 300 odd cars but I could only see maybe 15-20 different models so I assume they have alternate team liveries built in or something?

Also while rummaging around that NoGrip site for the addons I noticed skins for the Volvo 240 and Toyota Corolla Levin but I couldn't find any mention of the cars in the game, they seem to be part of the '87 WTCC class but the only two cars I could find on the official site were the BMW M3 E30 and Alfa Romeo 75.  Any idea if those are official addon cars or community made content?  No biggie, just curious :).

I think those 2 cars you mention are community mod cars.  At this point I'm not sure about much when it comes to the modded cars.  From what I'm seeing so far it's a little trickier to get modded cars in the game.

Though this isn't my first go around with modding a game, it is the first time I plan to put some serious research and effort into it.  I modded GTR2 back in the day, but it was nothing more than adding a few tracks.

I also saw that 300 car number.... there's nowhere near that many cars available.  I'm guessing you are correct, they are most likely including all the different liveries.  But if that's the way they're counting cars, well that's just farking stupid.

Yes.

Well, that Charade vid I posted is a mod track and I think it looks ok.  As far as accuracy goes, I have no idea.

That Sebring vid I posted was a mod track too, and appears to be fairly accurate.

Same as mine.  All I had to do was replace the power supply, the motherboard, the ram, the graphics card, the cpu, the cpu cooler, the video card , the optical drive, the hard drive and the case.  Now it works great.  I probably could have gotten away with the same case but I wasn't comfortable with the cooling and would have had to mod it.

I think that I have too many games right now and not enough time to play.
xbox:
Forza
playstation:
GT5
Ferrari Challenge
Motorstorm
PC:
iRacing
Live for speed
pCars
RFactor (a disk came with my g25, haven't installed it)
Dirt 3
Dirt Showdown
Shift

I think for now, I'll stick with iRacing and try to make more midnight shows for GT5

Live for speed

This is one game I've always wanted to try.  I've read all over the internet that it's one of the best, at least in regards to physics.

Would you agree?

I'm no expert but to me the physics "feel" like the best that I've driven.  GT simplifies to much.  iRacing is a little too squirly for example the Mazda's are too biased to oversteer.  However, apparently the physics broke down when they tried to implement a real car.  It just didn't drive right.  So they have been developing a new tire model.  When it comes to the word "soon", LFS really puts Polyphony Digital to shame.  The new tire model has been in development since before GT5 came out.  It's worth it to check out the free demo but the S2 license is still $37-38 which is  a bit much.

Wizard..

.. well I don't really but you just had to make me go look into this game didn't you :P.

Demo is awesome, ran some laps around Brands Hatch just to get the idea.  Setup was pretty simple even using the PS3 controller (had to dial back the sensitivity a little but it's great), though I've only run some pre-race practice sessions and only seen a few cars on track I had it running on full detail with no obvious framerate issues.

Of course then I made the mistake of looking into purchasing it on Steam and discovered all the interesting expansions (see above image!!), so naturally I thought I'd investigate those some and that was when the...

Holllee shitballs...
.. dropped on the fan!  Anyway I got to looking and all the Touring Car stuff looks great as do most of the other expansions too, as Freddie Mercury once sang "I want it all!".  Judging from the demo I was thinking just the base game would be good but after seeing all the expansions I'm not sure now, and since I'm now not sure what to do I figure I'll post some screenshots to annoy anyone else that might be indecisive like me :D.

From the Retro pack (one I'm really interested in)

I'm really tempted to drop $17 down for the Race ON bundle ($3 game + $10 Race On + $4 STCC Game 1) plus another $5 for the Retro pack, or since that bundle doesn't appear to be any cheaper than the component parts I might forgo the STCC 1 for now in favour of Retro but it's hard to choose especially with the mods and free stuff too (some may be expansion pack dependant but hopefully not tracks).

To anyone that wants access to the ever growing mod catalog I have (currently at around 6.2 GB's), you need to send me your email address in a PM please.

I plan to upload everything to Google Drive.  Google Drive requires me to input an email address of the people I want to have access.  Note:  This does not mean that I will be sending files to your email.  What it does is allow me to send you a link to your email.  Clicking on this link takes you to a page where you can download the files.

Also, Google Drive limits me to 5GB at one time.  I have 1 .rar file there now that is about 2.8GB.  The other .rar file I want to share it 3.2GB.  As you can see, I can't to both at once so I'll want y'all to grab this first file asap.  Thanks.

FYI, for all the mods, you'll need an extracting program called winrar.

If you don't already have it, you can find it here - http://www.rarlab.com/ (http://www.rarlab.com/)

When installing it, a page will come up asking what file types you want to associate with the program....  make sure "rar" and "7zip" are checked.

IF YOU DON'T WANT THE WAY YOUR COMPUTER HANDLES NORMAL ZIP FILES TO CHANGE, MAKE SURE "ZIP" IS UNCHECKED!!!

those are some nice looking cars and the tracks have hills and banking, looks good but im already in the too many games too little time bracket ATM. :( im also of the same mind as wizard when it comes to race games im more of a track nerd than a car nerd (i use bumper cam could care less what the car looks like as long as it drives well and the physics feel right). as for replays the cars going 2 wide is cool, 3 wide awesome,  4 wide someone has to relax.... :D

I believe it's the 1971 Opel Commodore GS 3001, not sure how much influence the American automakers had in the European market (or if Opel was Vauxhall and part of the GM group) back then but it does have shades of some 70s American muscle about it.

Also the Steam interweb page for the Retro pack is here (http://store.steampowered.com/app/44660/).

I wish I would have done this from the get go.  Oh well.

Yeah I saw that "Race Injection" pack, you do save like $6 or so getting that rather than buying them individually but it's missing at least 2 key packs for me.. I'd much rather have GTR Evolution (It has the Nurb and I like the cars better than GT Power On) and Race On than say GT Power and WTCC 2010

So I'm probably going for Race On and Retro to start with, those are definitely the cars I'd be most interested in and with the free tracks from the modding community that'll be a plenty good start :).

I played the demo some more tonight, didn't do well with that mini-F1 car in the demo but I did get better at Brands Hatch in the BMW.  I'm definitely going to get this in the next few days, definitely going for Retro and pretty sure I'll be getting Race On too.

Sent out a friend request thing to you Lonestar, assuming I know my account details it should be coming from Feldynn (yes, I'm that original :) ).  Steam is always running on my PC I think so I may be online but probably not paying attention, with any luck I'll have this up and running in the next few days!

Also Wizard regarding the mods you've got, do you happen to have a list handy of the tracks you've got, or maybe some recommended "Wiz Picks" for stuff that might be good to get started with?  Don't think I want to go for the full 6.2Gb catalogue just yet but I wouldn't mind picking up some of the same stuff you have :).

I can definitely understand not wanting the full 6ish gigs I have just yet.  That said, lemme sway your mind....  most of the mod sites I've found have daily download limits.  The main site where I got 98% of these mods, has a limit of 100mb per 20 hours.  You'd spend over a month downloading what I can get you in probably around 10 minutes.

Because I'm using Google Drive, I found out you need to have a gmail account in order to get my stuff.  If you don't already have one, it only takes a minute or two to create one.  Once you have it, send it to me in a pm and I'll send you the link for the first 85ish tracks I have.

If you still would rather I make a list of Wiz picks, I'd be more than happy to do so, but I think taking a few minutes to get my complete catalog is the way to go.   :)

FYI, in order to play online you have to do some port forwarding on your routers to do so.

I can help with this if anyone doesn't know how to do it.

The ports are...

TCP+UDP 48942–48957

UDP 26900-26907

UDP 48958-48973

.. "a few minutes" :teehee, don't think my connection is quite up to that speed but point taken :), also I read back and realised you had a 2.8GB file already up currently not the full 6GB catalogue so that would probably be doable.

I'll have to check on a GMail account, fairly sure I don't have one but I'll check on that and PM you in the next day or two once I've at least got the game working.  I'd be curious for a quick summary of what you've got installed though if that's cool, is it all just tracks and custom skins for cars or other stuff?

Also, also, is the port forwarding mandatory for multiplayer to work correctly or more of a "do this if you have problems" solution?

It's mandatory.

Here's a good site to get some stuff without download restrictions.

http://f1classic.your-talk.com/ (http://f1classic.your-talk.com/)

You have to register to even view the forum.  Once registered, there are 2 subforums where you can get stuff for this franchise.  The GTR Evo & Race 07 subforum, and the Downloads subforum.

The only issue with this site is quite a few of the links are either broken, or lead to megaupload/rapidshare, which were both shut down by the government a while back.

There is some good stuff to be found there though.  :)

Wow that's a lot of great tracks there!  A simple "yes I've just downloaded a crapton of tracks" would have sufficed but thankyou for the full list.. ZOMG that really is a crapton of tracks!  (http://i.imgur.com/LmjyBgx.gif)

Crapton being the imperial measurement, it is roughly equal to 10 metric Shitloads.  Not to be confused with a Metric Crapton which is about equal to 12 7/8rd shitloads :).

You dont need a GMail account to access the files listed on the GoogleDrive. When the owner of the file sets the permission for the file, all he has to do is select 'anyone with a  link'.  Send that link in an email to those that need access, and voila .... all set.

I make DVD/PC Slideshows on the side .... this is how I share them with customers.

This file contains about half of that list.

The other half will be uploaded in the next day or two, which means I have to take this one down.  Get it while it's hot!

Then, I have a 3rd file, which at this point I'm still adding to, that will contain some more tracks, a bunch of skins and probably some full game mods too.

Thanks again Agent!  :)

Oooh, oooh, I got my Steam problem figured out and have started downloading the game now.  Ended up getting Race 07 as well as the Race On, STCC 1 and Retro packs which are installing now.  Fortunately while I was figuring out Steam I did manage to download WizPack 1 from the google docs link so I should be swamped with content by the end of the day :D.

Now to figure out how to install the mods / custom content tracks and stuff and then how to make some custom skins!  Speaking of them does anyone know how they work, I mean if I make say an STGT Touring Car skin will anyone I race online with be able to see it or is it like iRacing where everyone needs to have a copy of the skin to see it in a race?

I also purchased GTR Evo & the Retro pack.

If you need help with installing tracks let me know and I'll walk you through it.

Yes, it's like iRacing, everyone will have to have the skin installed.

Here are the templates for the Race 07 cars - http://www.race-game.org/race07/download/skintemplates.htm (http://www.race-game.org/race07/download/skintemplates.htm)

I haven't looked for the templates for the Retro & GTR Evo packs yet.  I'm sure they're out there somewhere.

They're still around and rumored to be working on GTR3.

They just released a demo for "Raceroom Racing Experience"  I downloaded it but haven't tried it yet.

As for the console part, you may be thinking of pCARS.  I think I read somewhere that some of the Simbin guys broke off and joined the guys that are making pCARS.

They did also release an XBox game called "Race Pro" back in early 2009 that looks like it's basically an updated console version of Race 07, didn't find anything for PS3 though which is a shame.

I checked the multiplayer server list and there are a good 2 dozen odd servers up and running though some had passwords, basically it looked like a bunch of racing leagues judging by the names but I didn't pay it a lot of attention.

Also I did run a few practice laps around Laguna Seca in the Retro Volvo Stationwagon thing, that was fun!  I spent a bunch of time looking through all the different cars too, love all the Touring Cars / race cars, so much so that it's given me a couple of ideas for Tuna evnets on GT5.

Also, also I downloaded the skin templates too.  Haven't actually loaded any into Photoshop yet but looking at the instructions it may be a touch more difficult than say iRacing, however I won't let that stop me from trying to get some of the liveries I'd done for iRacing cars over onto Race 07 cars!

Speaking of the Track Pack 1, I unzipped it last night (:teehee) and got to wondering.. are these tracks all compatible with any game / expansion combination or are there some that require say GTR Evolution in order to work?  I use that as an example because it comes with a (modern, I think) version of the Nurburgring and you have the 1970 Nordschleife version.

I guess an easier way of putting it is "What expansion packs do you have, Wiz?" :).

Also where do we shove tracks in order to have them work properly in the game?

The tracks I've loaded up so far work with any and all variations of the game.  Doesn't matter if it's Race 07, Retro, GTR Evo, whatever.

Track folders go in the following location...

C drive
Program Files (Or program files x86 if you have 64bit windows)
Steam
Steamapps
(your name)  <--- there will be a folder with your steam name
GameData
Locations

You may not have the last 2 folders which means you'll have to create them.  Create the folders exactly as above, watch for where the capital letters are.
Title: Re: Race 07

For those interested here are a couple of shots of the STGT Tunaco Camaro skin I've been working on for Race 07, yes it's basically the same design I used on the iRacing stock car a few weeks back but I thought it fit nicely :).  While there's no cockpit screenshot to illustrate I have managed to have some success with the window decal portion of the car's skin, as you can see there's the Supa Tuna GT strip on the outside.. well if you race in cockpit view you actually see the reverse side of the decal just like you'd expect to!

Also for fun and curiousity I wanted to see how the livery looked in a different colour (and how simple it would be to change colours) so once I had the original white / blue one finished I threw some paint at it and came up with this one.  It is only a test so I didn't recolour every single thing, though the most obvious is the windshield decal, I think it turned out pretty good even if I do say so myself :D.

Do it.

GTR Evo (probably the best expansion in my opinion) is also on sale for $3.59.

So for $9.58 (Injection + GTR Evo) you'll have access to a really great game with some really great content.

Then you can download all of the mod stuff we have ready too.  We have about 200 tracks ready and are working on getting all of the mod cars ready.  There's maybe around 50 mod cars we're working on.  Most of the mod cars we found had some bugs and/or setup issues and Brindle and I (mostly Brindle!) are going through and fixing them.  I've been slacking on this and have been busy doing some remodeling on our home.  Hopefully after the new year I'll have more free time and we'll knock em out.

I highly recommend everyone reading this that has a PC capable of running this game to take advantage of this sale.  I can pretty much guarantee that anyone will get their $9.58 worth.  :) :)

Picked it up.  Obviously the graphics aren't up to par but it's nice to have small touches like bugs on the windshield.  Any tips to getting things setup?  How do you get telemetry going?  Your site seams to be abandoned.

My big problem now is that I'm running out of ssd space.  Steam wants to put everything on the same drive.  I've had to uninstall games that I'm not playing much.
Title: Re: Race 07

How do you get telemetry going?

1.  Download http://www.nogripracing.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=12459&d=1221740549 (http://www.nogripracing.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=12459&d=1221740549) (I think you have to create an account to download.  If you don't want to I can upload it somewhere for you.) and extract it to My Documents\MoTeC Projects  You'll need to create this folder... right click anywhere inside your My Documents folder and click "Create" then "New Folder (make sure it is exact, watch the capital letters in MoTeC).  So when you open this folder after you extract this file into it, you should see a folder called Spads GTR2.

2.  Download and install MoTeC here - http://www.motec.com/filedownload.php/mi2_pro_1.20.0008.exe?docid=2409 (http://www.motec.com/filedownload.php/mi2_pro_1.20.0008.exe?docid=2409)

3.  In your My Documents folder, go here - C:\Users\"Your Name"\Documents\SimBin\RACE 07\UserData\"Your Steam Name".  In there, there will be a .plr file that has your Steam name as the title.  Open this file in notepad and change it to look like this...

Obviously yours won't say "Joel" but you get the idea...

Once you're finished with the above, go and run some laps somewhere.  It will log data in any mode (practice, race, time attack, etc.)
Once you've finished your session, open the MoTeC software and click to "Create New Project".  Tip:  You'll only need to create one project.  Each session DOES NOT need a new project to be created.  Therefore, I recommend to call your project something like "Race 07".

Once your project is open, click "File" up on the top menu and choose "Open Log File".  Then navigate to C:\MoTeC\Logged Data and open your session.

That's it!

I've made some modifications to the way the program works that I think are for the better so if you want them let me know and I can send you my Project file.

Your site seams to be abandoned.

Pretty much.  It was worth a shot and I learned some stuff along the way so it's not a total loss and it's still there in case I/we ever need it.  :)

You'll also want to download a program called "XD" from here - http://www.vitumo.de/ (http://www.vitumo.de/)

It give you the following info on your HUD...

I also have a tweaked file for this with better placement on screen and some other tweaks too.  If you want it, let me know.

Steam wants to put everything on the same drive.

If I remember correctly, there's some software out there that will allow you to put Steam stuff wherever you want.  I'll see if I can find it again for ya.

I'm also in the process of getting this going with my Nook I just got...

DashMeterPRO for iRacing @ Android Galaxy Note (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMGdVjFOnLg#ws)

It's available for pretty much every main PC Sim out there...  iracing, rfactor, game stock car, Race 07, F1 series, GTR2.

Thanks.  It's easy to move your steam stuff to another drive.  What I really need is to be able to have some steam stuff on one drive and some steam stuff on another drive.  I want the fast load times for Dirt3, Portal 2, Race 07 but don't want to clog up my ssd with sleeping dogs, dirt showdown half life 2 etc.

That was actually first on my Christmas wishlist but my wife got me the Thrustmaster shifter instead.  She didn't think that the box looked that interesting.

The only thing that sucks is he's backed up quite a bit.  Probably won't get my box until around January 30th.  :bummer

Just looked around and it appears it might be as simple as this...  http://www.wikihow.com/Install-and-Run-Steam-Games-To/from-a-Different-Partition-(Win7) (http://www.wikihow.com/Install-and-Run-Steam-Games-To/from-a-Different-Partition-(Win7))

This guy will custom make your button box for you:

Not sure how long it takes.  Pricing seams similar to DSD.  Of course Derek appears to have a great rep.  You can't go wrong with his box.

Even easier apparently.  Now steam will let you install some games to a different drive.  Not all games which is weird.  sleeping dogs and dirt showdown both installed.  showdown wasn't as bad as I remembered it (still not good).

Once you're in a server/lobby, you can't change anything.

There's a bundle deal going on right now with some of these older Simbin games.  7 games for $2.99

If you have a PC that can run these, seriously put some thought into buying this bundle.

Seriously.  Worth every single penny.  There's an amazing amount of content here for $3 damn dollars!

Pete,

I'll need to do a bit of guesswork here, as I've never bought a bundle from this particular company before.  I have bought a few bundles from other companies, so these instructions are assuming this bundle works similarly.

- I assume they sent you an email with a Steam Key.   Possibly more than one.
- Launch Steam
- On the top menu, click Games
- In the menu that pops up, click "Activate a product on Steam"
- then you may have to click next a few times, and possibly an "I Agree" to some general license terms.
- you should finally get to a screen where you can enter your Steam Key(s)

The downloads should start automatically.

Let me know if that does or doesn't work.

Good luck! :)

iRacing has the Legends car as part of the core content.  They usually run in oval series but sometimes run road.  I believe week 13 usually has a road race.  I'm surprised that you haven't even tried iRacing in over a year.  It has improved a lot in that time.

I'm updating now as I type this.  I'll give it another shot.  I always liked the tracks... they're really fantastic.  I was just never a fan of any of the cars I drove though.  Hopefully I'll enjoy the new tire model.

The SRF (spec racer ford) is probably the best car in the game right now and is one of the free ones.  Make sure you try that one out at mid-ohio or something.  You got the Cadillac promotion right?

Yeah.

I just fired it up a bit ago and quickly remembered why it sits on my backburner.  I'm not a fan of cockpit view.

I'll give the SRF a quick run though.

Just get triples.  It should pretty well cure your problems with cockpit view.  Once the Rift has high enough resolution, you won't want to drive anything but cockpit view.

odd.  You could try re-installing from scratch.  Otherwise both the forums and support are pretty good if reinstalling doesn't work.

Oh yeah if I had triples it'd be a different story.

Unfortunately that's a long ways off.  I just dumped about $600 into my PC for other upgrades.

Went with an i5 4670K & Hyper212 Evo for cooling
AsRock Xtreme4 mobo
nice new case
120gb SSD

Next up is more ram, new power supply, new vid card.  Then I'll probably go triples after all that.

I need a 3rd job.  ^-^

BTW, for anyone still playing this game, I have over 200 gigabytes worth of mods to offer.  There's a shitload of cars and pretty much every track you can think of.

I don't know that I'd ever find the time to put everything I have in the download area, but if you think of something you want, let me know and I'll put it up.  Perhaps I'll create a list of everything I have and y'all can pick and choose what you want me to upload. :)
