Not exactly new, but I haven't heard anyone here mention it yet. Toyota is working on a hybrid LMP1 car to run first at a Spa endurance race then at 24 Hours of Le Mans. Go Toyota!

I hope it's a decent car as Peugeot has pulled the plug on their program effective immediately. Sebring will be a bore but I hope Toyota can provide Audi with some friendly competition come June... providing Audi still cleans up on track.
I'm a giant Audi fan and I don't want them to leave the sport because they don't have any competition. But I don't want them to lose either :)

there are quite a few new entrants to the LMP class, with Toyota and now Pescarolo entering the ring again. I like the toyota team's chances, With Alexander Wurz and Anthony Davidson on staff.
-
That's a sharp looking car.

Interesting bit...Michael Waltrip is planning on participating...in a 458 Italia
Yeah i find that funny as well. As a matter of fact i believe he took part in the 2011 LeMans race, and his car was involved in the big overnight wreck with the Peugeot although he was not driving at the time.
-
Walrtip did run the 458 last year, though I thought it took out one of the Audis. He also ran it at Daytona this year. I think it's pretty cool that he stepped out of the Nascar box for something that involves turning right.

Yeah, Rob Kauffman his business partner (a "gentleman racer" = amateur) almost killed Mike Rockenfeller overnight at Le Mans because he didn't hold his line quite as he should have. ACO officials parked him for the rest of the race - or, being French and so polite, they "suggested" he step aside). And Waltrip has run a number of races with he, Kauffman and Rui Aguas... they did Le Mans and the Dubai 24 last year and Daytona & Sebring with an eye on Le Mans again. As Michael proved at Daytona on Thursday (wrecking all by himself coming off pit road) he may be better suited to sports cars where he can hand the wheel over to someone else after a while.

thanks for the correction stepper, i was at work and didn't have a ton of time to research/remember lol. "being French and so polite, they "suggested" he step aside" that made me laugh.

Yeah, I can't wait to not be able to watch it on TV because their TV package is a pile of shit... otherwise, GO MCNISH.

I don't live on a college campus. I have an average internet provider. ESPN3 is very hard to come by. AND, I don't want to watch it on my computer screen. That's why I have a TV. Nor do I want to watch a cut up "replay" show the day after. ALMS, why do you hate your fans?
-
This should help the fix. ;)

not too recent, but still newsworthy: Nissan has become the official engine supplier of the DeltaWing project. Can't wait to see how that thing runs.

Damn.
(http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss272/james_mikel/STGT%20forum/smiley_emoticons_segen.gif) Allan Simonsen :(
I caught the replay but it wasn't too detailed and didn't show what actually happened. Can you shed any light on it? I saw the car was destroyed and the roof was twisted but what happened?
-
Lost it coming on to the main back straight. Looks like he overcorrected and the car spun, drivers side first into the armco. Hard.
Immediate reports said he was responsive and talking to doctors. About a half hour later they broke the news that he had passed.
This video shows a little more of what happened....
24 Horas Lemans 2013 : Aston Martin crash Allan Simonsen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_ITXBv01io#ws)
-
It was at Tetre Rouge which I think is the corner at the start of the Mulsanne Straight? Looks like he lost it maybe due to the dampness on the track or mechanical failure, apparently (from a post on the PSN forum) the car may have even penetrated the armco and hit a tree before bouncing back on to the track, bending the chassis and roll cage quite badly.
-
While Simonsen's crash put a damper on things, I'm rather pleased that Kristensen and McNish were able to win. I know it usually comes down to which Audi will beat the other Audis, but McNish is a god among men in prototype sports cars (see: Petit Le Mans in 2008) and Kristensen is the King of Le Mans and seems like a really cool guy.

It looks like Petit Le Mans is on today at road Atlanta. Live coverage for non-Americans: http://www.alms.com/camera/television-broadcast (http://www.alms.com/camera/television-broadcast)
Apparently you can watch in the US with the Hola Unblocker:
"If you want to watch the ALMS at Road Atlanta today download the Hola Unblocker extension for Chrome and set your country to UK. Then go to: http://www.alms.com/camera/live-broadcast (http://www.alms.com/camera/live-broadcast) Enjoy! "

Right race this weekend. This is either Q or practice.

Right now Toyota is quickest followed by Audi then Porsche.

Ok thanks. I was worried I missed something.

I was surprised to find this as I was just looking to see what my TV coverage will be this weekend. This must be practice, because all the cars are on long runs.

Okay I got it now. It's free practice and there are 50 minutes left.

55 0 Run ORDOĆEZ L. NISSAN ZEOD RC M 0

Red Bull TV on AppleTV has a little thing about Mark Webber returning to Le Mans.
-
and he has a 3:23 on the books
also.. thanks for links guys
-
And Weber has put the Porsche on Pole. :)
My mistake.
-
Nice line up.
-
Kazuki Nakajima's Toyota No. 7 took pole position with a 3'21.789.

Since the official stream only has onboard cams, I went in search of a TV stream.
This one works great, but there is no commentary - jelso on USTREAM: assft6h. Other Sports (http://www.ustream.tv/channel/jelso#)
From what I understand the commentary from Radio Le Mans syncs up pretty well, so get this going in combination with the above stream - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yCTIt2HbLk (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yCTIt2HbLk)
Alternatively, if you have VLC Media Player installed (you should anyway, it's great) you can watch the TV EuroSport stream here - http://149.255.39.122/aasd/8815/index.m3u8 (http://149.255.39.122/aasd/8815/index.m3u8)
To get that to work, once you have VLC fired up, right click anywhere in the main screen of VLC, click "Open Media", paste that link in the box and click Play. The VLC stream is really good, but since it's an actual TV stream, it has commercials.
Enjoy. :)

It was a fantastic race. I managed to hit record before passing out last night, but Fox moved the final hour and a half to something other then fox sports 1. Stoopid fucking fox notwork.

Schedule

Some live timing. Looks like an hour of free practice left. Then qualifying I guess.
http://live.fiawec.com/
The Nissan LMP1 is about 20 seconds off pace.

One of the Corvettes won't be racing. :P :adam:

Oh and WTF Aston? You trying to blind people?
-
Jan Magnussen was driving the Corvette. I believe they have a backup car to enter in the race, but Jan may not be able to.
-
And Nissan gets penalized for going to slow. They were out by over 110 percent so will have to start at the back of the LMP field.

Some good news. Ford will have a factory effort next year in GTpro or GTLM in the US run by Ganassi. http://www.racer.com/imsa/item/117896-ford-to-join-tudor-championship-gt-le-mans-ranks-beginning-in-2016
Announced today. They will have a two car team in in the Tudor series debuting at Daytona in January and I also heard mention in a video of a WEC team as well.
Sad thing is, I think we are looking at an extremely week prototype class in the Tudor series next year.

I would think a factory effort of that size will have a backup available to them.
And I have heard the Aston team is hoping that if other drivers stare at their car just long enough they will go into seizures making it easier for A.M. to take the possible overall victory this year. :o

That Corvette entry is out. Jan is okay.
