The Hanes company was recently looking into sponsoring some motor sports related events. Problem though is the Nomex suits drivers wear prevent product tie in. As soon as our marketing dept. heard of this they knew they had a winner. C'mon at some point you have been there in your living room sitting around in your boxers racing online. When we pitched that scenario to the Hanes people they jumped at the chance to work together.
Here are the details this Friday at Indy Motor Speedway in Formula GT cars 200 laps tire choice is open. Ten mins of qualifying followed immediately by the race will begin at 8:30
Being as it is a Tuna event it needs a Tuna twist each driver entering the event will declare their real life pick to win the Indy 500 on Sunday. Your driver's finish and your finish spots will be added together to decide our winner. For example I choose Marco Andretti he finishes 5 I finish 4 my total score is 9, Brindle picks Scott Dixon who finishes 1 and Brindle finishes 4 his total would be 5. Lowest score wins.
I know this is short notice but a few of us talked about it and I thought I would toss it out there.
Here are the names I have so far;
Baked Vitoria Meira
Spitfuk Ryan Briscoe
Thunfisch Danica
Ronin Dario Franchiti
dlrws John Andretti
nosoks Takuma Sato
Charlie Pippa Mann
Rick Will Power
NinjaTuna Scott Dixon
If these are wrong please let me know before Friday at 8pm.

The wife and I are heading for the beach Friday, so looks like I'll miss this. :(
-
I'll jump in on this, I'm not much for IRL but I am sure I can come up with a Indy driver to team up with.
So...Are we supposed to call our drivers here or wait until the event?
-
Naturally, count me in. I've been semi planning an Indy 500. This makes my life a lot easier. ;D

I was slow pulling the trigger with this one thinking someone else would be doing something.
-
Good question Ronin I would like for everyone to declare their real life counterpart by Friday at 8 PM here in this thread. And real life drivers can be chosen by multiple Undy drivers.
-
I'm going to go with Ryan Briscoe
-
Since I know next to nothing about IRL, I took the amount of drivers (33) and entered it into a random number generator. It generated the 16th spot which on the starting grid is Helio Castroneves.
Good enough for me. :-\

(http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss272/james_mikel/STGT%20forum/icon_beuj-1.gif) Danica, Pippa, SImona, or Ana... (http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss272/james_mikel/STGT%20forum/yummy-1.gif)

Are you thinking of racing?
-
I might, could possibly be, maybe interested, in doing this.
-
I was going to go with Hélio Castroneves but I got beat to the punch so I'll go with Dario Franchitti
Dario Franchitti is my final answer Regis.
-
I'll go with John Andretti. In all reality I think he has no chance of winning. In fact I doubt he'll make it past lap 100. But I can't help but like and root for the vintage Gordon Johncock/Richard Petty/STP livery on his car.
-
I'll go with Pippa because I like her ride... (otherwise I'd go Dainca because I'd like to ride her...)

Then I would love to have Danica. And I as well would love to pound that shit!
Thunny with Danica sitting on my lap :-*

If any one wants to join in. I'm going to be in my lounge (dlrws6) for an hour or so working on my tune for this race. I plan on logging in around 6:30 central tonight.

No idea what that means but I am going to take it as fighting words. I am sure it wasn't something nice.

I suppose I'll commit to this fias----uh, wonderful evnet, (http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss272/james_mikel/STGT%20forum/lol1.gif) Sign me up! Oh and I'll go with Scott Dixon for the win, Johnny! Uh, Charlie, good thing you chose Pippa, as Simona DiSilvestro porbably won't make the 500 after seeing this practice lap:
Simona de Silvestro Massive Crash 2011 Indy 500 practice (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18pFE6cRHYw#ws)
UPDATE!: After suffering 2rd and 3nd burns on her hands, Simona still intends to race in the 500 with the 2003 backup car - Good Luck Simona!

I might, could possibly be, maybe interested, in doing this.
I will throw in all the beer you can find in your fridge absolutely free.
-
looking like I can maybe make this. I'll take Takumo Sato so we can both be lastish (http://i.imgur.com/LmjyBgx.gif)

Race start time is EDT, right?

Got it will update OP.

You are correct sir. If this will be an issue I can push it back some. Might only be a little but if it'd help then I will.

...I'm not sure what to make of this but, This morning I have run two B-Spec races. In both races my primary driver (S.Park) has been given the car that driver I have teamed up with for this race has on at least one ocation raced in. In 2007 Franchitti drove the #42 Target Nascar machine at Homestead.
Maybe it's a sign of good luck (http://i.imgur.com/LmjyBgx.gif)

The tie in to the real race should be a fun twist I know I will pay more attention now.
-

Well, you have until tomorrow so shit or get off the pot! (http://i.imgur.com/LmjyBgx.gif)
Or have another fancy beer and think on it some more ;D
-
If anyone is going to have some practice going on tonight hit me up. These cars are some of the most intense monsters in a pack. And I have already seen some times by this one getfuckedfacemagicalperson. that made me go :o Not to mention any names :-X
-
I'm going to try to do this. I don't know pay much attention to who's actually racing in the real race, but Gordie Johncock was always my favorite as a kid, so I'll take him. Wait, I'm old and he's probably retired, so I have no idea who my 'partner' will be. How about Seattle Slew.
Shit, wrong kind of racing. Ummm, I have no idea. Is Will Power (love the name) or Vitor Meira (love the name) still available? I'll take either if they are.
Is this a run what you brung event? Any PP limits or tire limits or any limits of any kind.
What's a good lap time?

Both drivers are still available you call it. As for tuning have at it throw all the parts at it you want. Racing tires on a formula Gt car is it. As for lap times haven't a clue just thought this sounded fun.
-
What's a good lap time?
Saw a couple high 38's last night while setting up/practicing. Low to mid 39's being the norm. All in clean air.

In my test last night 38.686 was my best lap in clean air. You get about 35 laps out of a tank of gas and make sure you have plenty of gear for drafting. You speed up fast. 255mph gearing is not enough in the draft. Maybe 275mph or 285mph. I'm still testing racing in the draft.
If time permits, I may also do some more testing tonight.
-
CHIT! >:( My significant (Most of the time) Other has informed me that we have tickets to a Crab and Shrimp Feast tonight at the Tall Cedars Hall. $40 bucks a person. :eek HOWEVER, that price includes beer, wine and set-ups, Steamed/fried shrimp, Steamed crabs, crab cakes, crab soup, mac and cheese, potato salad, cole slaw, green beans, and all of the fixins.
Why is it that every time I sign up for a fun race, something gets in the way? I'll have to beg out, dammit. I REALLY wanted to run this one. Sorry Baked, I know we spent at least a couple of hours last night testing and running. Hope it helped. :-\ It just pisses me off that I spent so much effort into testing and running and now won't have the chance to race. Maybe I could put a little powdered laxative in her drink - ::) :nono Nah, probably not a good Idea. :-\ I would really like to run another "Indy/Undie 500" soon.
Have fun tonight, all, and Scott Dixon is still open to anybody who wants him as a partner.
-
I'm going with Scott Dixon - See everyone there!
-
I will not be home in time to make it on track with everyone. Would anyone mind if drop in and watch some of the racing?

you seem to usually show up around 9:00pm (6:00pm pdt). Can only speak for myself, but I have no problem waiting 30 mins for you to arrive.

ditto... I don't mind waiting a bit.... got all night, probably better for me even
-
Looks like I'm going to miss this no matter what time it starts. :(

Thank you for the offer to wait, but I'm not sure what time I can make it home tonight.

If your high 38s or low 39s I think you'll be fine. When I ran the 38.6 I had minimum aero camber set to 2.5 and 1.5. Only problem is once I started trying longer runs I discovered the car likes to spin out. I've since made adjustments and I now run consistant 38.8s and 38.7s on low fuel.
This is my current tune:
Racing Soft tires
Aero - front 40 rear 60
suspension default except toe is 0,0
Gears: Final 3.522
1st 6.714
2nd 4.393
3rd 3.159
4th 2.367
5th 1.849
6th 1.505
7th 1.298
I race in 6th and drafting over 250mph I change to 7th which should be good up to about 295mph. Which is hopefully enough. I did not have a chance to test my current 7th gear. I just know if it was much shorter I'd hit the rev limiter at 275mph and if I set it much higher my car does not pick up sufficient speed in the draft.
-
Wow what a great race. Nine guys started nine finished. Many thanks to every racer that came out I still cannot believe 200 laps didn't scare more people away. Great job running to all who came out.

Now we just have to wait til Sunday to see who is the Undy 500 team challenge champion. Be sure to root on your driver.
-
We can't change Undies til Sunday.... hmmmm
Great racing guys awesome times. Thanks Baked for putting us all up for the evening
-
Congrats, Baked! Looks like the practice the other night paid off, (http://i.imgur.com/LmjyBgx.gif).
Gosh, I'll bet that was really a fun time....sorry I missed it. :'( Was it a close finish after 200 laps?
-
I had fun right up untill the last few laps, I appologize for my outburst at the end of the race, I thought my mike was muted. I lost two positions after the race ended. Cars that are laps down should finish laps down not continue to run until they have run the full race, but that is PD's screwup.
Congrats Baked.
-
Good win Baked and congrats to everyone finishing on the lead lap. Early on I took myself out of contention because I suck. During various points of the race I got to do some actual racing with a few of the guys and enjoyed it.
Also, thanks to dlrws6 for the tune. I picked up 2 tenths immediately and qualified 2rd. Even after grabbing some grass and taking part in a death spin, I was able to start catching up to the lead pack 15 laps in, except I continued to crash. Lap times for me over the first 105 laps went something like this:
38.8
38.9
38.8
56.9
That trend went on for about 75 minutes. The crashes were not due to the tune.

It was most likely tire ware, After about 40 laps and two pit stops I found that stagering the tires reduced the number of mid corner wiggles and spins later in the middle of the tire run. After that I was actually able to run with people and hold lines, wish I had figured that out before messing up peoples races trying to collect a wiggle.
I spent so much time during testing trying to figure out how to reduce the load on the right rear tire I never gave any thought to balencing the front/rear grip, Half way through tires the front was overpowering the back causing the wiggles. It had occured to me and then Charlie and Ninja pointed this out to me and still did nothing about it...:(
-
My tune was my standard weak attempt. No downforce drop ride height to -5 and racing hard tires each time. Thanks for congrats guys.

During the day today a few friends asked me what I did last night. When I respond drove in a race many of them expect that. But when I tell them we did a full 500 miles at Indy since the actual race is this weekend they all look at me as if I am loopy for doing so. But this was exciting watching everything unfold with at least 6 people leading at least one lap and the top five would cycle up and down the leaderboard. I had a blast even if it would of ended entirely different with finishes. I don't know about anyone else but seeing a two hour race or longer once a month or so might be fun.
-
One more thing I woke up at 6 this morning wishing my left arm would just fall off. But I would do it again. :o

Someone stop this man! He's out of controle (http://i.imgur.com/LmjyBgx.gif) I have to say that while testing and only doing 20-30 laps I thought I would fall asleep at the wheel when we ran 200. Not so, I found it to be quite intense. I would have to take turns shaking the numbness out of my hands periodically but other than that it was a blast. Well, that and I had to piss like a Russion Race horse when we had finished :laugh
Good racing guys. Congrats to you Baked. Well done!
-
Thanks again Baked for organizing this event and congratulations on the victory last night and congratulations to all the participants for surviving a difficult and incredibly fun race. Although I have high hopes for Sundays race, I've got a feeling that we put on a better show last night than the real thing. I've saved the replay and I hope to spend some time getting a few photos of all the action and studying my mistakes. As soon as I do, I'll post them up. (the pictures, not the mistakes :P)
I'm all for long races so if you decide to run another I'll do my best to be there. Also if by any chance you wanted to stick with ovals there is always the Pepsi 400 at Daytona in July and the Brickyard 400 at Indy in August. :D

Thanks Ronin I had forgotten your races were going to be full length features.
The first race did have limited turn out and we only ran half the distance but I am hoping the next one will have better turn out since people don't need to buy a car to participate if they don't want to.

Poor JR was driving like me that last lap... Draft, draft, draft, BOOM! :(
WHat a :fuck ing finsh!!! 8)
-
You really have to feel for the poor guy, sliding across the finish line in second :'(. What a finish.
-
Why wasn't his spotter screaming to back off follow the lapped through the turn then get him on the straight. Or hell he was up like 4-5 sec. he could of followed the lapped over the star finish line probably.

Putting the word out there we will be running this again this year. Again with the Formula GT cars. Exact specs and date details to surface in the next week or so. Start eyeing the Indy teams to pick out your real life teammate. Would like to also get a feel for how many are interested if it fits their schedule?
-
if it fits my schedule I'm interested.

:stoopid:
-
Im in.
-
I'm in as well. I will also be in on the July race. ;)
-
Schedule permitting I will be there.
-
If i can make it, i'm definitely in.
-
Still trying to nail down a date but will be one or two weekends before the real Indy 500. But for now so y'all can start practicing 660 HP Formula GT cars racing tires. Keep eyes here for more infonto come "soon". (http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss272/james_mikel/STGT%20forum/lol1.gif) We will be running full distance so get that ass ready to be in seat for an extended amount of time.
-
Schedule permitting I'm in.
Takuma Sato
-
May 20rd time still to be nailed down but at least we have the date. :D
-
I'd like to reserve the #42 Juan Pablo Montoya ride. ;)
-
May 20 may be tough for me. Working a double shift until 2:00 PM eastern time and heading back into work again at 10:00 PM. As long as the race is held in that time frame I will team up with the same driver I ran with last year (Dario Franchitti).
-
James Hinchcliffe for me.
-
Where can we find a list of drivers? (otherwise I will stick with Pippa)

Is it worth noting that Marco's grandfather was born and grew up (somewhat) in Italy?
-
I wanted to run under the flag's colors, I found the perfect FGT...
-
:o
I'm up for it but I don't want to take the space of a regular racer. So I guess consider me an alternate or field filler. I still got my old car/tune plus 8 others. :D As time goes along if any one needs a lvl24 ticket to get a fresh FGT, I can share.
-
I'm in, with a little luck. Gotta go with an Andretti, Marco.
-
I'll go with JR Hildebrand
