Title: The Hundred Miles of Indy Road
Post by: RoninTuna on March 15, 2012, 05:55:45 AM
During initial testing I have come to learn that some of the GT-3's may not have the endurance to be employed regularly in endurance races, that said I have rented the Indy road course for an hour on Friday may fourth so we can get together and run the piss out of these GT-3 cars and see just what cars can do it. My primary concern is the electric and hybrids and my secondary concern is the front wheel drives.

* - The reverse grid is being used in an effort to maximize competition giving the slower drivers the advantage and having the fast guys work through the field and keep the racing tighter for a longer period of time. This will also go a long way towards increasing the likely hood of all drivers finishing in the allotted post race completion time. If we can keep everyone within three minuets of the race leader it would make organizing the official results much easier should this event spill out into a multiple room layout. I know it is an odd request but I do ask that drivers put in a legitimate qualifying effort. With the recent bug fixes to the live timing monitor there is no reason this can not be pulled off. The penalties listed are there as an added incentive but still real.

** - Duplicate cars are limited by the number of different numbers they carry, for example the RX-7 has a different number with each different color (However Blue 202 car and any other three digit iteration are not eligible) so there are at least five eligible RX-7 LM's, the Team Oreca Viper has two different number cars so the viper is limited to two, The Ford GT LM has three different variations The Camaro LM has four variations but only one number so the entry of those cars is limited to one. To prevent overwhelming with RM, TC and Stealth cars with personalized numbers are limited to four and can not bare a number found on a non personalizable car.

Assuming I can still make it come May 4rd, please put me down for New Beetle Cup Car.  I'll check the number but if it helps it'll be that black one I used in testing :).

Considering both the CR-Z and the Prius have personalizable numbers there can be more than one of them out on the track but the number of how many is limited to prevent over saturating the field. So even if some one else wants to run one you can still run it, in fact I would kinda sort of like to see two of each of the CR-Z and the Prius. If it turns out they don't have what it takes it would be nice to have someone else in the same boat to actually race with.

I hope to fool around a bit tonight with the eligible cars so I can pick one for this race.  I already have one in mind but I want to confirm that it's a competitive choice.

I have added two cars that where originally excluded for their literally piss poor liveries.

       - CIVIC TYPE R (EK) RM '97 (http://www.mygranturismo.net/car_sheet.php?id=264)
       - Golf IV GTI RM '01 (http://www.mygranturismo.net/car_sheet.php?id=1013)

I figure if I am going to include the Gathers for this test I may as well include it's unsponsored buddy. That said, the Golf has more livery than the Civic so it came too.

goodness these cars eat front tires lol. that single drive for the Prius is odd as hell, and the Cr-Z absolutely chews through its battery lol

Yeah, that is what the early reports where saying, that is why I want to test these under actual race conditions to see if they suffer in the pit strategy department.

i'm getting a 1.5 second difference a lap in the CR-Z when the battery runs out...i have a couple ideas to try to make the difference less severe. I'll be sticking with the CR-Z...i forgot about that stupid single drive for the Prius...

Have you done any pit stop testing? I have read the battery charging issue was resolved but have not tested it.

The test data we did collect lead me to the conclusion that the GT3 class did need some work and there will prolly be some more testing to come.
