As the name implies this is an Italian event and we're going to keep it old school. The only allowable cars are the desirable Italian exotics from our youth, that we used to (and possibly still do) pin up posters on our walls and drool over in car magazines. Not all of us are the same age, so the vehicle choices are spread out over a few decades, but nothing newer than the early 90s is allowable. What that leaves us with are the following vehicles (listed by year):
Lamborghini Miura P400 Bertone Prototype CN. 0706 '67
Ferrari 512 BB '76
Lamborghini Countach LP400 '74
Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary '88
Ferrari F40 '92
Cizeta V16T '94
We will be running these vehicles stock (with a slight possible exception for the 512BB) on RH tires. The action will take place at a variety of tracks located in Italy that will show off each car's strengths and weaknesses. The first part will be a 10 lap race through the streets of Rome (forward direction). Then we will travel to the countryside for a romp around the Toscana track for another 10 laps. And finally the event will culminate with 10 blistering laps around the fast and furious Autodromo Nazionale di Monza!
I have no designs to hold this event in the next 1-2 weeks as I will be on vacation from this Thursday through the 10th of July. I merely want to get the idea out there so people can prepare! Ideally I would hope for this event to take place during the second half of July on a weekday.
Please give me feedback so I can gauge people's interest in this event!

Great idea! :D I would have to decide on the following cars.
Lamborghini Miura P400 Bertone Prototype CN. 0706 '67
Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary '88
Ferrari F40 '92
Sounds like a fun time to decide too. I smell a practice event to do so. 8)
-
Glad you like the idea!
If there is enough interest, in the spirit of keeping a wide variety of cars in the race I'd propose to have vehicle sign ups with no more than 3-4 (depending on race participation) of any eligible vehicle represented.
-
I like the idea. If it comes down to it, I would like to reserve my Anniversary Countach. I love that car.
-
I'm totally in. No idea which car I'm going to use so I'm down for practice sesh's! Looking towards the miura, 512, or V16 to keep the pack split, but I haven't driven a single mile in any of them (aside from special events).
-
I like the sound of it too, but I have no idea what car to use so a practice session might definitely be in order :D. I've driven the Cizeta, both Countachs and the F40 (albeit briefly) but I think they all had some sort of mods so it'll be interesting to see how they do stock and I don't even own the Muira or 512BB yet.. spent my money on the 20mil Ferrari and Ford race cars lol, so I might have to grind some more seasonals while the money's good :).
-
definitely interseted, but timing may be an issue as I have company 15-23 July. Other than that I'm cool
-
BTTT, as I'm back from vacation!
When would you fellas like to pull this race off? I'm open to suggestions.
-
Bueller?
Bueller?

Since you are kinda the de facto "sponsor" (like moi with the Midnight Show); it's more a question of when is it most convenient for you to pull it together? I think folks are looking to you to decide on a date so they can adjust their schedules accordingly.
With the Midnight Show I was trying to provide a "later" venue for Mountain and Pacific time folks who usually have to rush around to make an evnet as they are set for Eastern start times more often than not.
I picked Friday instead of a week night because most of us have to work Mon-Fri but can "sleep-in" on Saturdays if necessary.
I'm down for some Mondo Italiano; just say when...

It seems Monday nights are open. Maybe try it on a Monday. :-\

Thanks for the tip Tunas!
That being said let's plan to hold this event next Monday, 7/18, with the races starting at 9pm EST. The lounge will open at 8pm and will be hosted by PsychoTuna (as my connection can be suspect at times). In addition to what is stated in my first post no driving aids will be allowed except for ABS. Track surface conditions will be set to real, damage to Light, and penalties off (as they seem to punish the wrong person too often). All cars must be stock, except for the 512BB that can be modded to bump horsepower up to 420 (on the honor system of course as there's no way to monitor this).
Post if you're participating and which vehicle you will be using (don't want more than 2-3 of each model).
Ferrari F40 for me! ^-^
-
I need to check and see which one does not make my ass look fat. Anything Italian and it's "Mangia mangia" till it's all gone for me...
Bellisimo!!!
I will try to be there.
-
Monday sounds good to me, I'll be there but I'm not sure which car yet.. possibly the Ferrari F40 or the Cizeta V16T, though I do like the 25th Anniversary Countach. I need to check my cars, see what I have that is or can be set back to stock and maybe test a few cars to see what I can actually drive :).
-
BTTT!
2 more days then this is onnnnnnnnnn! :jimi:
-
This is still on for tonight.
Glad to have so much traffic in this thread!!!
:'(
-
I've ended up getting most of the cars set up (i.e. oil changed and reset to stock) and ready for testing, but I haven't had a chance yet today to pick which one I want to use yet :o

The 9pm start time is the only thing holding me back. I try not to run past 10 too often, just to keep the wife off my back.

(wait, you get to 10?)

I will try to make it tonight though, in an F40.

Lounge should be up around 8 for practice. I'll be hosting in a pub room, I'll post the number up here when up!
-
Multiple cars allowed or are you stuck with the date you bring to the dance?
-
I won't be able to do the race but I will do my best to make some practice fodder for you guys.
-
Welcome to practice with anything, but once you choose, please keep through the 3 races. Each car has it's strengths and weaknesses per track :)
BTW room's up for practice: 1472-6118-4130-9223-6407

Chrome, if you can only make it for 1-2 of the 3 races we'd still love to have you. More the merrier, always!

Sorry man. I tried like hell to make it but I just couldn't make it happen.
It also didn't help that the wife was being a (http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss272/james_mikel/STGT%20forum/brodkavelarg.gif)

Hey it happens.
Unfortunately attendance was a little low at 5, but I'd like to thank everyone that came out. No one car dominated the event and each race had a different winner. This might be something I'll try to bring back again in the future.
Pics will be posted later...but cheers for now! :)

Sorry I didn't "run into" anyone last night. The :nagnag brought home Battle for LA so I had to watch that. I just had some time to try out a few cars. I would have gone with the 88 Lambo.

It was ok. Followed the usual formula. I fell asleep toward the end. (http://i.imgur.com/LmjyBgx.gif) May not be just the movie that put me to :zzz though.

I'll take this to mean rent it, not buy it. :)

It was some good racing, nice tracks and great cars! Like Wolfpack said no one car really ran away with it, I had kind of expected the F40 or Cizeta would given their great straight line speed but I think being stock they were a lot more difficult to control in the corners than the other cars.
I spent the night the night in the 25th Anniversary Countach which was probably about the middle car power / weight wise, I'd even painted it a nice bright yellow so it was very much the Goldilocks car.. it wasn't light with lower power, it wasn't high powered but heavy, it was just right :D. And it handled relatively well too.
Definitely a good choice of cars and worth running again, or a similar style event again. Thanks for putting it together Wolfpack :).

My pleasure, thanks for the kind words!
