Title: 04/10/11- RIP Invitational Fun Event at Indy Road Course
Post by: UCanTuna on April 02, 2011, 08:31:37 AM
Copied this post over from the RIP site. AceofSpades has asked me to gauge interest in attending this event. There is a thread in 5SGR indicating some of us will be in for a race or two. I plan to provide a list of names to AoS as Friend Requests will need to be sent out for us to get into the room. It may not be an issue if it is a public lobby.

Date: April 10th
Time: Lounge opens 7:30pm EST. Race Starts 8:00pm EST

On paper it looks like the Silvia ought to run circles around the NSX. The numbers don't always tell the full story though.

also... there is a followup note that "all other upgrades" should be added to the cars. I assume this refers to bolt ons that do not add hp. (clutch, drive shaft, etc.) No matter... just shoot for the PP.

Updated the OP with a list of possible Tuna possibly interested in dropping in for this event. I will alert them that they might have as many as 8 or 9 in rotation depending on timing.

If I get back on on Sunday night, it's usually not until after 9pm.

I believe their plan is to set up an open lobby and post the lottery number on their site no later than 7:30. I'll try to remember to watch for that and post it up here as well. I believe, if it is an open room with a lottery number, the "must know the room host" issue is moot.

Got it! (I think.)

I've posted on their site that we have 8 to 10 guys who may pop in through the evening but did not name names. I think they just wanted a head count to determine how many might show up.

Sunday evening, I'll watch for them to post up the room number and copy it over to here. No pressure on anyone to check this out. I just like the idea that they're trying to do it (gather old and new friends together) and think we should support it.

I'll show up if I happen to be online with time to run one or two. Sunday evening are generally a bad time for most though.

I've queried the RIP guys to clarify the tuning on these cars. I'm trying their tune for the NSX today and want to be sure I understand what parts can or cannot be used on the car. I know RM'ing a car will lock some things out and allow others.

Good Idea. I plan on running the NSX and it looks like. 1 new NSX, RM it, Purchase R3 tires, Power limiter slider to 90% and the rest is up to user. I plan on buying the car tonight if my other NSX has been modded too much.

Just saw this at the RIP site:

Start time is 8:00 PM EST with a 45 minutes rotation
8:00, 8:45, 9:30, 10:15

Tunas will join room #2 1472 - 6118 - 4130 - 9219 -8826
USS's will join room #1 1472 - 6118 -4259 - 7715 - 1823

You can join us in several different ways.

a. If you’re on “friend list” of one of the Ripsters
b. In open lobby search for room numbers
c. In open lobby sort by track (Road Course – Indy)

I did fairly well, finished second in the first race and was racing for second when I got discoed on lap 19 in my second and last race. Sadly just before discoe I had a bad lag fit and put a hutrin on 3-Diamonds.

El decided to get Spring off to a good start and pulled together an impromptu weenie roast last night. I spent the night drinking beer around a campfire and trading racing stories with my brother-in-law who used to turn wrenches on a lot of different race cars. Sorry I missed this.

This was a lot of fun and after tuning the car and testing for quite a while I felt comfortable on this track even after never racing at this track. I was 3st in the 1rd race with Ronin in my sights but it was running pretty loose the last couple of laps. I was running in second for quite a while until Ronin passed me doing the herky jerky and then promptly spun out and went back to 6th. Then after working my way back up to 2rd I thought all I have left is to catch was Ronin but when I looked he was gone and I thought he must have discoed.

I did enjoy running some laps with Ronin, I think we could have hooked up more with a couple more races. Maybe me in front for a change.

The 3st race was changed to 12 laps and I took off and led for all 11 laps where I think Blackjack passed me on the straight and as I was trying to stay with him I caught the grass on turn 5 and spun again. Finished 4rd and had a blast.

I liked the idea of staying at one track and not having to worry about the thought of when do we head over to the noodleburger, can't stand that place mainly because I don't have the time to learn it.

I would definitely like to try this again and must say had no issues whatsoever with aggressive drivers.

this^

After taking photos at Nincompoop, I watched the end of The Masters, ate dinner, watched a little TV with the wife, then looked at the clock and it was already 10:30.

Hopefully the RIP guys will do something like it again.  Sounds like everyone had a good time so I'm sure they will.

After I got a set of pics from the North course, I went straight into practice for this, In truth when I showed up near the end of the race I thought the race and photo session would be over and everyone would be sitting in post race chatter, I had come in hoping to find someone to practice with and ended up being Bostons valet lol.
