Held weekly at 3:00pm Eastern

GT Saturdays is a community event open to anyone who is interested in clean, respectful racing among friends, old or new.  After you READ OUR RULES posted below, send a FRIEND REQUEST to GT_Saturday at least an hour before race time.

Race Lounge Proceedure - Go to Online, Open Lobby.  Check "Friends Only" and find GT Saturdays lounge.  Someone from GT_Saturdays committee will be using the GT Saturday account to host.  Friends of friends are technically allowed to join, but we ask that they be made aware of the format of the event before joining.  They are welcome to join us, but must read the rules and if they take up too many spots, priority will be given to people who planned on attending by sending a FR to "GT_Saturday".

Our goal is to provide both new and experienced racers a place to share the track.  Occasionally, we'll run shorter races, but our focus is on longer races around 45min - 1hr in length with a short pre-race.  This gives newcomers to organized racing a taste of what leagues and race series offer.  We welcome all clean racers who would like to join us!

will be held in m-tuned's lounge (M3's hosting account) so if you are not friends with him you could send me a FR and follow me in.

EDIT: to indicate we now use the Lounge "GT Saturday" so send FR's there.

To get into M's lounge you need to be friends with m-tuned. Maybe use your lounge if m-tuned is not around to add people.

that's where PS forum people will be meeting-up, and M said something about trying to approve FR's for newcomers.

Otherwise as an alternative make sure to send a FR to me before then (PSN ID= exXboxFan, no dashes).

for future weeks, there may be a more perminent change to who is hosting... this week was kinda thrown together last minute.

FYI.  M's lounge is having difficulties with obsolete settings or something

see link above to PS forum for new host info.  Racing starting in next half hour most likely.

Sounds like fun, and I absolutely LOVE using those type of cars!

I'll try to partake in the future, but can't this week.

Ex, how full has the grid been for the past events?

it would be cool to have either of yuo guys out there!

as far as participation goes, it varies greatly.

when Rated-M3 was really promiting it and the track or car choice was really popular, we'd get 13-16.  Only once have I seen a 16 full room.  The issue then was congestion on a tiny track (tsukuba) rather than lag.  That was a couple months ago though.  This bug thing is more pronounced than it used to be.

two weeks ago we had 5 total
last week I thnk we had 7, but 3 regulars were not there
average we'll probably see around 10 or so.

cationary note though... as cip found out last week, there are some newcomers who may not have the best etiquette. i posted some points about thiungs we saw in last week's race and hopefully they won't happen again or will be less disruptive.  It's a playstation community event, so you never know who will drop in.  But then that's part of the excitement too!

Got some testing in with Ex-X last night and this is going to be fun. I like the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG '10, though I hear the M3 and Viper are very nice too.

yep that was fun.  you're quite the interesting fellow to chat with!

as far as slipstream strong... we'll see.  that might get changed in light of the fact that we will have a harder time stopping on turn 1 inside a strong draft.  I'll pose the question to that group and see what they say.

there is a possibility that this lounge will get split up into two pieces if we have lots of racers (to avoid lag bug)  be sure to get in there by 3pm so you can get a good qualifying lap in and that may decide which lounge you are sent to.

we'll start out in M-Tuned's loung at or shortly before 3pm to meet up.

it sounds like one of the faster guys in the race (guy who usually wins or battles with guys like GoJet) is TGuns16, who is getting 1:50s already.  Expect him to get down into the low 1:49s at least, maybe lower.

he's an "almost alien" type of driver.  hella fast.

Saturdays tend to be an odd day for me so I may or may not make it for that race, just on the back of the race we ran last night I can confirm the Dodge Viper GTS '02 was pretty good even in my hands :).

I think I managed a best time of 1'54.xxx which is pretty good for me at that track, there's definitely more that Viper can give as the one I ran was one I'd already modded so was mangled to fit the spec in terms of power removal / weight addition.  I had to add like 120kg or so to meet the 1400kg requirement but I did use it to set the car at a 50:50 weight distribution, not sure how much effect that had on the handling compared to a more normal set up but the car was amazingly stable.

I mean that in a good way though :), it was a surprisingly easy / comfortable car to drive.  The back end was firmly planted and almost impossible to break loose, the car handled like a dream up on the banks too and was extremely smooth through all the bank / flat transfers, even braking into that first turn was almost oddly unexciting.

I'm sure a proper "built to spec" car (perhaps with a similar but not as excessive weight balancing) would have a few more seconds to give, particularly in the hands of a better driver as DRC isn't a track I'm especially good at.

to help us get a head count so we can see if we'll need two rooms, please post over at the thread below or if you prefer post here whether you'll most likely be there.  There is no participation limimt, well maybe like 22 or so if we do 11 in two rooms.

wiz, not sure if we'll be full yet.  doesn't look like we'll definitely need two rooms, though we may be close to that 12-13 car trouble zone.  don't NOT come just because it looks like you'd be #12 or #13.  We don't have a problem making it two rooms of 6-7.

Title: Re: GT Saturdays (Grand-AM GT Class Street Cars; 1/28 3pm EST)
Post by: EX_stream_tuna on January 30, 2012, 08:59:06 AM
yea! it was a good turnout.  we had 8 after one guy had a power outage, which was unfortunate cuz he's one of the faster guys usually and the one I'm probably closest to in terms of friendly rivalry and skill level.

Cipriani ran away with it in a 458 and spent most of the race in the lead, even after pitting.

Thanks Dude and Cip for coming out!

seeing as we only had 8 participants, I don't think it's likely we'll run into the 12 person barrier on most weeks.  There are always some regulars who cannot make it some weeks.  Feel free to join people, whenever you feel like it.

I'll post specs here weekly.

lol, sorry to hear that.  For a low slung car changing the oil on the S2000 is a piece of cake.  I don't even have to go under the car to reach the oil pan drain plug (can be reached while laying next to the car).  And I can change out the oil filter from the top side, reaching down in the engine bay.

I only use full synthetic Mobil 1, so I only change the oil twice a year.  Figure every 7500-10000 miles, though if I go to the track more often I shorten that interval, hehe.  :D

not sure if that was just a bump, or a new tuna-fied piece of punctuation I was not aware of...

is it... "I'll be on my period that day" or "I'll be there, period", or "yea, right on point!", or "What's the point?"

either way, well stated cip! ;)

come on out guys.  with just three practicing last night, we found that actually SSR7 is pretty interesting once you start messing with gear top speed and use drafting.

the more the better that aspect of the racing will be.  plus, there are two more "normal" stages to this 3 part race.

All the way down at 625...how low can they go? Whatever everyone else would choose, I'd use and recommend a Corvette C5-R or a Oreca Viper race car. I bet some would also recommend the CLK Touring Car with some performance enhancing mods. But I won't be there, too busy.

The GT By Citroen Race Car is very impressive at 625PP too, in fact I'd say it's an ideal PP level for that car as it actually tops around around the 638PP mark with all the power mods done to it so it takes very little to bring it down to spec.

Wizard had posted a time of around 2:00 flat, which was very impressive.  I think Crow got one lap like that out of the 27 lap race we did at Tokyo.

But the surprise this week was a 1:59 posted by a name we weren't familiar with...  he ended up winnin the race after battling four-ways to get up to the front and start pulling away.

i2drunk2drive???

Anyone know if this is an alias for someone else or know who this is?  We asked him to divulge after the race but so far, no comment   :-X
(and if he happens to read this, it's just out of curiousity.  you are always welcome to join us again.)

Even though that name accurately describes my weekend GT5 sessions, it's not me.   :)

Not sure who it is either.  I don't think it's a Tuna.

That thought did cross my mind. I could have been sleep drunk driving, but I checked my PS3 and the alt is not on my sign in list. So nope it's not me.  :)

it just goes to show there are a lot of people out there that can be really quick who we just haven't ever met before.

I still think the name SOUNDS like an alias, but all of our names are aliases anyways... but you know what I mean.  some people have a serious name and a quirky funny one.

when we got the FR from someone with that name, I was half expecting a reckless driver who had no idea how to behave.  glad it turned out not to be so.

updating op with this week's specs, VERY SIMPLE:

Monaco/Cote d' azur (not sure on laps, PSN forum is down)
Completely stock Fiat 500s (new one)
Tuning Prohibited
Oil change/break-in is okay

A tuneless saturday? hmmm? 8)

Should make it easy for anyone here to join at last minute.  Just make sure you send a FR to GT_Saturday at least an hour before the race if you aren't already on there.

Just to let everyone know, we will be testing a new format tomorrow.  We will be running 2 different classes of cars in the same race.  There's a sign-up post so we can ensure that the classes have enough racers in both.  You can post here what classs you want to be in to save you the trouble of logging in "over there."

As I'm not participating in these events this question is really just out of curiosity.

Why is the maximum horsepower 502?  Every single car eligible for this event exceeds that power limit by at least 10%

Quote from xlr8life who setup the specs:

I had plans to run at 700hp, but I had issues with overdriving in corners, I ran my chromeline during a 500pp online seasonal events, the car was just below 400hp and handled great. Plus my big issue was tire wear, 700 hp was a killer on tires, even hards, 500 hp helped them last longer. Basically I was thinking about long runs instead of short, especially on Cape Ring, that track was a tire eater, lowering the hp helped on that track too, it's still a bit slick, mainly through the ring, but it's a lot better than 700hp was.

(http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss272/james_mikel/STGT%20forum/I_Dunno.gif)  Maybe get Sony/PD/Kaz to fix the problems.  Nah, that would make too much sense, huh?

So maybe we do it like they do March Madness only with race drivers - two racers go in and only one comes out...  Oh, I guess that was "Thunderdome"...
                                                                                                                                                                       (http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss272/james_mikel/STGT%20forum/thinker_71-1.gif)

But you get the idea, right?  We start off with 256 racers (way more than currently) and they all pair off to race.  Go!  Lap, lap, lap...  Finish.  Boom!  Down to 128... And because it's set up like a bracket folks would know who and when they race...  And it would only take 8 races to determine the "National Champ".  And guess what else?!  No LAG.  Also also, up to 14 people can watch each race...

ok updated OP again with a room-splitting procedure we're testing out for this week, should we need it.

main thing is to send a FR to GT_Saturday2 in additional to GT_Saturday, and to look for a text chat invite called "GT Saturdays (Save this)".

try your best to get into main lounge by 3:00 and if there is overflow we'll know it from those checking-in to the text chat.

splitting will be based on lap times in the main lounge so showing up a few min early to run a couple laps is a good idea ;)

hope to see you guys there!

I haven't had a chance to take my Evo to the track yet, so you can guess what specs I chose!

Evos vs STi's on Nurburgring with Time & Weather change! (Weather should not be very severe, but is designed to make things interesting)

This could be a really popular format so please come out and join us this saturday @ 3pm!

I'm not so sure about that.  What do you plan to set the weather at?

We had some problems with the weather settings in the TunaCup Miata series.  Even setting weather to the lowest possible settings, it would still rain until track saturation was 100% and then it would stay at 100% for the rest of the race.  It kind of sucked.  PsychoPhreak also ran a 2 hour endurance at Nurburgring with the lowest settings and the same thing happened.

In other words, I think the weather is jacked in this game and it doesn't seem to work like it should.

Just some food for thought.

definitely appreciate the input.  I'll test it out some more before Sat and adjust as needed so that there is SOME rain but not constant.

There are three sliders to consider:
Weather % - status of skies at room creation/reset
Changability factor - how likely is it to slide up or down from where weather % is currently.
Surface Water - amount of accumulated water upon room creation/reset.

Weather % seems to dictate where things start off and affects the liklihood of change.

If you include a very low changability factor along with a low Weather %, you will most likely not see rain.

From my research/observation, it seems that a setting of:

W = 25%
C = 7

will make it very unlikely to rain near the beginning of the race, but hopefully would give us some rain before its over.

I need to run a full race or just let the room run for an hour to see what happens...

Just so everyone knows for peace of mind.  If my testing shows that it is too hard to control weather we will ditch that aspect of the specs and just go with time change.

thanks wiz

To make matters worse Ex, I have found that even with the exact same settings, reseting the track changes what the weather does.

I have not done further testing, but I know that a 25%  1  0 makes it start to ran about 5 or so minutes in.  Change settings and 50%  1  0, reset track, change back to 25%  1  0 and now it takes 15 20 mins to start raining.

Oh and in both instances, it NEVER stopped raining after it started (hour long race).  Although it staying rainy could have been because of the "1", but I was hoping for it to stay dry for the bulk of the race, then MAYBE change to rain.  That has never, ever happened.

Good luck.  :)

What if you put the changeabilty to a high number? Seems like it would cycle quicker, like the day/night thing.

thanks guys,

I think chrome is partially right.

I did a few hours of just sitting in a lounge and messing w/ settings, and some driving with Crow to pass the time.

Two things can affect how long rain lasts.  Where you start, and how fast you ask it to change.

If you start at Weather 0-25%, it is unlikely to rain very soon unless you have the changability factor raised to at least 4.

We have to keep in mind that the starting position of 25% means that it could either go up or down and then the chagne factor decides how quickly.

If you start at 50%, you're actually saying "make it look like it will rain" and with a change of 0 you are saying "make it stay that way."

If you start with 75% or more, you're asking for a certainty of rain right at the start.  Problem with that is, you want people to be able to do laps and hopefully ahve the race start before the rain.  Resetting wipes the lap times.

So starting somewhere low is preferable for a race start.  The question is, how do you get it to rain some but not really heavy and not for most of the race?

With this setting, we did see heavy rain for a while but then it stopped after around 2 laps.

Weather = 25%
Change = 5

So that shows that perhaps a higher change makes it stop raining at some point.

Think of it this way.  Weather % is a slider.  If you ask it to change, it could go up or down.  If it goes down first, it will probably go all the way toward 0% and then travel back up again.  The amount of time it takes to start the rain could vary as a result.  If it starts sliding up toward 100%, it could go all the way up, and then all it can do is go back down.  The change factor will decide how quickly that can happen.

But all of this is a probability game and we don't know all the equations.  If we did, then so would PD's competitors.

What does seem a bit broken, unless it's just part of the "probability" feature, is that as Fried said, the reset of a room seems to drastically affect how likely it is to rain.

I tested 50% w/ 0, and it never rained.  But the first time I switched to 50% I had it at change = 5 and that indeed made it rain immediately.  I wonder if in that case it slid over toward the 51% range right away and that is what makes rain.  Weather of 51% or greater??

But yea the rest of the track seems to make the rain less predictable.

When I'm done here, I'll either fully understand this sytem and have something really neat to share with the community, or we'll know for sure whether it's broken and I can make a post about that for MasterGT to report to someone.

I am awaiting the results.

This has never happened for me.  Always starts to rain after 5-10 mins.  I would agree with your statements about 25% being a small chance to rain and set at 1 should mean it will take a very long time to change.

I will keep an eye out for more results.  :)

see OP.

thanks brindle, I think there's always some randomness built in, even though the basic settings do somewhat control what happens.  just like weather doesn't always do what we want IRL, they made it so we don't have complete control.

yes when I read "Unrestricted" I take that to mean you can choose mediums and hards too.  If it says "Racing Softs" then I stick to those, no pun intended.  NOT pitting at this aweful pit row may be what wins the day...  I'm not sure if anyone is getting the laps done w/o pitting on harder tires.

the slower guys are reporting 1:13s, and it sounds like clacksman will be there... so at least one guy to give you a real race!

So far it sounds like I won't be there.  Have fun, if you do end up racing!

EDIT: new intel...

111R RM good on S-s front/R-h rear tire split but I don't have time to figure out the way to get balanced long-term tire wear.  A single 1'07.1 was promising.

Roadster TC is 2 seconds per lap slower for me, felt really good so it shouldn't be that much slower but it was.

Trick is what tires he got the 107's with.  The car I'm testing now is mid 9's on racing hard.  I'm sure with softs it would easily match or beat 7's.

That is my real question.  I have been looking at the PSN forum, and have seen numerous times, but no one is specifying which tires give those times.

Thanks for the input Ex.

ok I think it's safe to say they are using racing softs then.  come race time, they may switch them but w/ just trying out cars to see what gets good times, they are probably using the best tire available.

if you look at GTdata for clack's tune, it probably has tire type included.

arriving a little earlier than 3pm is advised so that we can know whether we need to split rooms or not.

the main lounge will now fit 14 but that's just so we can see if we are full and begin to split up if needed.  we most likely will not race with 14 in a lounge, due to the issues we've all experienced with that many racers on the track at once and using peripherals.

Since most were not able to join the lounge (only those already connecteda t the time of the outage) we're doing a redo of this RX-7 format.

I will personally not be there, but it should be a good one, nonetheless!

posted new specs for this week in OP.  courtesy of xlr8life

sorry for not getting to it sooner.  I think rally is something that you all are training for anyways, right?

3 medium sized races - 1 short pre-race before first race.  No long tuning sessions between races - so bring 3 tunes if you think you need them.  However, most should get by fine with just one tune for the three layouts of cape ring.

Shuffle Races based on Mob Rule

show up a little early so you know what's being decided.  The PSN forum is gonig through an overhaul and we haven't been able to organize properly.

or check here to see if anyone decides on specifics (which may not be saved by Saturday Morning)

I won't be there myself, but show up if you want some mid-afternoon casual racing inside with your AC on instead of baking outside!

OP updated;  600pp any car choice you like.  show up and vote on tracks etc.

sorry for the disorganization lately.  forum went back to lithium  and while that may sound great, we lost a lot in the process, including private discussions to hash things out before we post it.

and it sounds like Clio Cup Cars this week!

17 laps at Le Sarthe is a bit much for me I'm afraid.

I think I have a tip though. Run it heavy to get the most HP to achieve the 490pp limit. I am probably just pointing out the obvious though. :)

that's probably good advice.  I'll try it if I attend.

on 17 laps, I wonder if that's a type-o.  seems like a lot.

I know LOL for me that would be like a two hour race  :o

edit: Is '05 no chicane? I never can remember, but if it is then that is probably not too bad.

Post by: EX_stream_tuna on July 13, 2012, 12:29:43 PM
I think '05 has one of each... chicane and not. but I think this is the chicane.

I know that some cars get 4:00 laps so I did the math and that makes 68 minutes of solid racing, not to mention off-track incidents, pit stops, AND the fact that Clios are not Enzos... so yea it will be way over an hour for sure.

I'll make the suggestion that it should be a little shorter, I think.

good, I'm glad you made it out and had fun.  I'm posting new specs for this week... something a bit different cuz I'm weird like that.

but don't let the FGT's scare anyone away.  They are very managable at this HP and weight.

tickets can be sent to anyone who doesn't have one.  1/3 chance of getting an FGT with a lvl 24 ticket means you probably will only need to "flip" the ticket 3 times.  If you're really lucky, first try.  SOmetimes it does take longer though.

Get your ticket requests in now should we need to find an open send slot for someone.

Hope to see some of you out there!

adding 30kg of weight will meet requirements, and sliding weight toward the front may help with spin-out issues.  No need for ASM, as these are fairly tame after reducing power and adding TCS if you feel you still need it.  If you need a car to drive, just ask someone to send you a level 24 ticket, which can be flipped to obtain this car.  1/3 chance each time.

I tried some laps in this FGT in offline practice. It really isn't that bad, but I only do 50 second laps using racing soft tires. Anything faster and I'm tagging walls or pointing the wrong way. I'm sure the car can go much faster without me in it.

I'll attempt it online. :)

Goos times though indeed.

thanks Dude and Cipriani for coming out to race

Cip said the car wasn't getting him too excited and may only do a pre-race, but once we lowered the laps to two medium sized races and he must have enjoyed the first one, I'm glad he stuck around and won the 2nd race!

there were some spins and offs, but all in all I think this reduced power made it enjoyable.

we'd been talking about using one car for a month, perhaps slowly modifying it over the month.

does anyone have any suggestions for a good starter car that remains run while maxing it out and adding parts to stage it up over four weeks?

We had previously used an Alpha 8C and a BMW Series-i Concept with success.

cars that will keep you coming back week after week that are popular enough but also interesting and fun?

What about using one of the cars that are RMable?

For example...

1st week - Stock Car (not RM'd yet)
2nd week - Upgrade car (still not RM'd)
3rd week - RM car, but still "Stock RM"
4th week - Fully modded RM

then we'll have to plan for it.  september would be when we'd start this format, so five levels of modifying would be ideal.

tuneless/stock  w/ oil change
exhaust, intake, and ride-height adj susp
engine stage 1, weight stage 1, full susp
RM with no additional mods, w/ tuning
RM with all mods

that would make five levels

As a big fan of MR cars in this game, I like the NSX RM.

noted.  thanks.

another option is any car that has a TC version from the first DLC pack or elsewhere.

reason being... hey let's face it, the "RM" thing is just a gimmick the game uses to make it seem like you just transformed the car, but in reality it's replacing one car for another.

that makes it possible to use the MX-5 and Roadster TC as a combo, among a few others.

if there are twelve of these combos, then that makes for no planning for a full year!!!!!

BMW 2002 Turbo @ nurb.

CORRECTION: Any part not changing power or weight may be used.  Tuning unrestrecticed.  Detune to negate power gain from break-in and oil chang only.

my best is a 1:57.7xx which I was surprised to attain.  I thought 59's or 58's would be my limit.

CLARIFICATION FOR 9/8

After reading this again, I realize I need to clarify that the room will not be set to a PP rating, but to the HP and Weight specified.

So moving the ballast, if it does increase your PP's (enzyte not included) is nothing to worry about.  Put it wherever you need to.

No adjustment of the Engine Limiter/Detuner allowed either.  Just bolt the parts, break it in, and you're good to go.

posted specs for this week, which is week 1 of 2 using the NSX RM.

hope to see some of you make it out this week!  A few people I know were waiting for the RM version, as they don't like the regular NSX nearly as much.  So hopefully there will be good turnout.

A note about this week is that we are experimenting with STRONG slipstream.  But don't let that freak you out.  It has most definitely changed in the past week or so.  there is a thread on PSN discussing the changes to the DRAFT, and they appear to be very beneficial changes that help racers avoid some of the crazy collisions that strong would cause previously.  If practice yields serious problems, we can always change this setting on race day.

race day tomorrow!

this will hopefully be a well-attended event, especially if some of you show up!

I think I got a 2:29 something last night, and someone who is not actually attending the race but was practicing, put down a 2:28 something.

there is a tune posted on the PS Forum's discussion thread (see op of this thread) that was done by Forgetful months ago for a higher PP car, but still drives nicely.

others are running it much softer than his tune, but so far I've liked his just fine with small adjustments.

anyone not able to tune the car and just wants to show up, could use that one.

actually, i'll attach the pic here of his tune...

SWEET!!

try to show up at least 5 min early so that you are guarenteed a spot.

I've not really done much planning for when the room exceeds 14 (we go a little past the recommended limit, but if mics are unplugged you should be fine) because the room is usually not very full.  Last week we had five, but three weeks ago we had 13 or 14 and Mr. Sandwich too!

So it's hard to say, but I (think) this will be a popular one, so arriving early will serve you well.

You can always message me if you get stuck out of the room though, and we can try to work something out.

thansk fried and dude for joining us again this week!

it was great to have you.

I have to apologize for a couple instances that hopefully will be minimized in the future.

1, Mics should not have a bunch of background noise going on in the race so you have to listen to dogs barking and that sort of thing.  I've asked people to only use mics for communicating important race information.

2, Fried, I saw some things that probably frustrated you, but you apparently didn't feel like speaking out about them.  I want you to know that I noticed and made some comments in the main event thread so hopefully they do not occur (much, cuz you know there is a varied skillset and mentallity).

Specifically, the replay did reveal some advantageous cutting and some pretty irresponsible pass attempts that lead to you being bumped pretty hard a few times and the person not even yielding to you afterwards.  You raced with honor and just kept truckin in good tuna fashion.

Thank you again for joining!

Thanks for posting here so we can jump in from time to time.

You are extremely observant.  There were a few things that got under my skin, but only by someone, who from reading at the forum is a courteous and fast driver, that was a problem.  The contact you noticed, I let slide because of difference in skill/experience.  I have given up on mentioning these things for many reasons, so I just typed great race, which it was epic and just left.

Thank you for noticing and I will say nothing more of it.

YOu're welcome!

I just want good sportsmanship but also want to involve everyone from all walks of "GL-Life" so these things are bound to happen.  we can use them as an educational tool when they do.

I tend to take the position that if you are taking the fastest line through a very tight, troublesome corner, that someone should not purposely place their car in your way just so you have to do something crazy to avoid them.  Otherwise, it's not a test of skill to see who wins.  It's a test of who can manipulate the other driver to mess them up.  SOME of that is just part of racing, but it gets annoying sometimes.

Definitely watch one thing in particular on the replay... that all of your tire wear up front was more extensive than mine.  That is a bit unusual and the close racing certainly affected it.

As you say though, despite some problems it was truly an epic race.  One of the best I've ever been in and others have said the same.

That was by design.  I prefer a tight race car to loose, when tires are wearing thin.  :)

well what I mean is that all four of you clumped together made you each use more tire than me out by myself just concentrating on running laps and nothing else.

This week's specs added!

Vehicles
Toyoa 86-GT
Scion FR-S
Subaru BR-Z

Hope you can make it out!
(I hear there are some subtle differences in car behavior between these three, even though spec-wise they are identical)

also also, many of us will be wearing some sort of PINK this month for Booby Awareness.

Hey Tuna's. We need some help this weekend. After a "Botched" GT Saturdays event last weekend, people are not too happy with the way we have been organizing things. We're working on it and we could use your support on the track. Please help increase the size of our room today at 3pm est.

I will not be there today as I'm leaving in about 15 minutes to go visit family. Hope some of you guys can make it out.

argh... when it rains it pours.

the network issues reported last night are continuing and now people can't create race lounges.

stay tuna'd, we'll be trying until race time to get this going.  If not, we may repeat this week's specs next week.

thanks for your support either way!

UPDATED OP!

GET THE CUSTOM TRACK FOR THIS WEEK

if you want to practice that is.  but sometimes people just want to show up too, which is fine.  That's why I made sure this track was relatively easy to learn within a few minutes.

if someone was hesitant to show up randomly because they felt they wouldn't already know all the sweet spots of the track, don't worry it's easy to learn.

Hope you guys like my track. -- I was going through some custom tracks that others had built and shared in the Trackshare account, (thanks Revengel for organizing that) and many of those had far too many turns and ones that were difficult to judge and learn.

So I took a stab at making one just for this week's event.  Tried one, it was okay.  Clicked the "Next course" button and the image looked like a real circuit!  Not only that, but it looked kinda like a bleeping DRIVING RIG!  I tweaked it a bit and smoothed out the turns...

...and now I present to you *BLEEP*Pit

(Shared on GT Saturday Account, DM's, and Mine)

Updated OP with this week's specs.

Thanks to Hey6541 for racing with us last week (though I could not personally attend).  I hope you enjoyed yourself and found at least a little competition.

This week is a Christmas rally with red/green EvoX TC's and WRX STi RM's, on snow at Alaska.

Some have suggested full damage and no collisions... personally I think that would suck.  We're going to stagger the starts so that two cars race at a time, 20 seconds apart, based on qualifying in lounge.

You show up, turn your best laps.
We'll run a pre-race using this starting method, then next race is based on previous race's results.

Top 2 start when countdown reaches Zero.

Next 2 start at +20 sec
Then next 2 start at + 40

and so on.  I hope it works!  LOL  But this is an attempt to keep everyone from being snow blinded and having to make reckless passes.

FYI... we are planning on posting specs for a Corvette C7 Stingray event for this Saturday, but are waiting to drive the car a bit before deciding on specs.
Title: Re: GT Saturdays 1/19 2:45pm EST (Corvette C7 Stingray Prototypes)
Post by: EX_stream_tuna on January 17, 2013, 02:24:43 PM
Yep!  Stingrays this weekend, or you can also bring the masked version if you want to stand out a little more than just red and grey.  The cars drive similarly and the main difference seems to be that 7th gear.

But most will be in the Final Prototype model I'm sure.

This is being slated as a mega-event where we are trying to garner as much participation as possible.

Two 30 min races with an intermission on route-x.  main courses will be Indy Road & Laguna Seca.

SHOW UP EARLY if at all possible (note that I changed the op to say 2:45) so that we can get an idea of numbers and whether multiple rooms will be needed.

If you are already friends with GT_Saturday, then show up there first to check in.  If/when that room gets full, we'll open up an open lobby room and post its number in the main event thread on the PSN forum.  I'll copy a link to that post on Race Day so it is easy for you all to find.

Hopefully with this format we can accomodate as many people as show up, of course never knowing how popular an event will be... we may all end up in one room anyways ;)

that would be great if you could!

btw, since this is really 3 races, there's always a chance if you show up late that a, we haven't actually started any of them yet, b, that we have at least one left.

again, it's Indy RC, Route-X (just for some fun), and then Laguna.

I couldn't speak to the SRT10 Coupe but if it helps I did find the '99 and '02 GTS models worked well with a close ratio transmission and fixed sports suspension, that was at stock weight / hp though.

So far spending an hour messing with the RX8 has yielded 1'51.7xx. A short time in the Ferrari 458 is consistent 1'50.0xx's. I'm now leaning towards the Ferrari, but I will try to find time to test more cars.

tguns has posted times (http://community.us.playstation.com/t5/Gran-Turismo-Series-General/GT-Saturdays-General-Discussion/m-p/39364053#M626115) for other cars at PSN with one of the Audi cars @ 1'50.x as quickest. All are very close. It is a long race and will come down to consistency.

That would be one to see for sure!

THIS IS a 1.5hr Enduro
(I suppose that's long enough to start calling it that)

Anyone interested please send a FR to GT_Saturday and actually I can think of two people I may just send one pre-emtively :D

LOL, well the photo shoot was still sloppy, but the long race format made it not really matter, as upsetting the best starting grid positions didn't affect the overall race at all.

the front guys easily made it up front and nature took it's course.

This was an AMAZING event tunas!  Thanks to Dude for being an awesome guy and doing such a great job snagging 3st place!

Hey snagged 1nd quite easily, and seemed to take it easy toward the end ;)  But a few of us stayed on the lead lap which was nice!

It was great to see Cip out racing on a Saturday again.  Good job w/ 4rd place!

I Locked in 5st place with Tguns/One_Eyed_Tuna in 6rd.

So, out of the top six, five were tunas.  Not bad!

Congrats to Gojet for the 2nd place spot.

lol... I forgot that I made the comment and didn't see all your nice mesages until today.

THANKS!!  It went very well and was a nice weekend visiting w/ family etc.

Updating OP for a mini-me event of your DayTUNA, which we are calling the  DALEtona 250 because it's half a race and because our good friend and longtime participant in GT Saturdays DALEtona just has a cool name and is probably the biggest NASCAR fan in the group.

Some of you met him last night at TOC... cool guy and I'm glad he finally swam into these waters!

thanks to those who came out to race w/ us.  I hope it provided at least some practice of what NOT to do for the Sunday race you were all in!

there were some mishaps and some procedural problems for sure.  I want to apologize to those affected by them, and assure you that most races are NOT so half-brained.  Some apologies from a few guys for incidents they caused are foudn in the Discussion Thread at the PS Forum if you're interested...

It was Nice tosee Grilled join us and Cip & Dude too!  (sorry you couldnt' stay Rick)

Needless to say, I don't think we'll be doing NASCAR very often in GT Saturdays! lol

stay tuna'd!

Updated OP with this week's specs:

here's something to give you an idea of what we're doing this Month:

"The month of March will bring GT Sats a new format. This series of races will be based on the "Grand Tour" in the special events section of GT5. We will be using mostly the same tracks with similar cars. All of the cars will be raced in stock form with no aero parts allowed, however, oil changes and car break-in is encouraged. Every car is a premium model so this should make it simple enough for anyone to join from week to week. Tires will be slightly upgraded on some cars and heavily upgraded on others. "

cc'd from other thread:  this is how we will handle non-cautions...

Note about this week's race:

There will be no cautions for the Indy race unless people are really concerned about it.  I think last time it caused a lot of confusion and we are running cars that should be easy for most to control.

IF YOU WRECK REK SOMEONE, as in hitting them into a wall or spinning them, please do the courtesy of falling back to help them draft back up.

Because of the DETUNED cars, hopefully those who usually shy away from FGT races wil still join in on the fun!  Go try it out, and we can even have people post some tuning suggestions in the Discussion thead. you know... that might actually be where I got these specs or something pretty close... I went through my FGTs looking for one that had a "Detuned" name on the tooning sheets... it might have been from a ToC race.

ZOINK!

Special GT Saturdays 2nd Anniversary Event

Friends, it's been two solid years since moderators and MVPs decided to try and promote GT5 through a gang of random strangers at this forum.  Against all odds, it worked!  During this time, dozens of Gran Turismo fans have gathered on the track to share clean, friendly, but competetive racing on a weekly basis.

The ability of participants to have a regularly scheduled event taking place at the same time and place every week with varying formats, has probably been the most important aspect of GT Saturdays' success.

Please join us for the GT Satudays event in 2011 this coming Saturday @ 3:00pm Eastern 12:00pm Pacific in the GT Saturday Lounge (send friend request if you haven' t already) for some remeniscing about races gone by, and the future of Gran Turismo!

Awesome. Here's one I chased around the track the other day. Since he's not going to let me drive it, would be fun to drive in the sim.   :)

If i am counting the headers snaking down to the exhaust pipe correctly, its kinda hard to see them in that photo in is probably running a v6 from either a Buick sedan or from a Chevy S10 truck.

From what he told me, it's a Caterham 7 kit car modelled after one of the earlier model Caterhams? Shoot, I don't know.   :)

The hood scoop is its first giveaway. It is somewhat modled after earier 7's. But it is not a Caterham it is made by a company in Florida called Brunton.

Is that car in your pic from Arkansas if so I stand corrected. Not in the car its still a Brunton but in the engine he has in it. It would be a Chefy v8 from the LS series.

Ahhh, yes, that's it. He said it had the LS1 engine on it. And yeah, he's from Arkansas. Nice guy. Brings his whole family down here to the track. They all wear matching shirts and stuff. Super nice people.

Sorry for the blunder of not getting things posted early last week.  Even though we are working on the final specs for this week, here is a good preview to get you going.  (though, I was surprised we still got 10 racers at start of last week!!!!)  It was great to see Wizard, and Fried show up!

2 Hours du LeMans 6/29 @ 3:00pm EST
preliminary specs, just to let you know basically what we're doing:

Vehicles - Anything listed as LeMans Prototype in the Online Lounge when that option is selected.
(cars are being tested to see if cars can all make 700pp.  if not, it may be dropped to 690)

700pp (possibly a little lower)
SINGLE class race, due to logistical issues of doing 2 classes with unknown field-size
LaSarthe 2009 Time/Weather
full day/night transition, very low chance of rain.
Tires Unrestricted
Usual GT Saturdays room/race settings

Group picture during Pre-race!

700pp (possibly a little lower)

Can I make a suggestion please?

I'd keep it at the 650pp y'all ran on Saturday.

I heard comments like "I can't get the power down",  "my corner exits suck",  "I keep spinning my wheels".

700pp is only going to make that worse, and probably spread the field out even more than it was this past Saturday.

Besides, even at 650pp we were still hitting 200+ on the straights.  That's all that's really necessary for this class/track combo in my opinion.

I'll most likely show up either way.  just some thoughts I had about it today.  :)

cool, thanks Turbo & Wiz

I've gone ahead and just plugged in the 650pp number to get something posted in a more timely manner.  They felt good there and as Wizard said, some still had trouble with too much torque at times.

I plan to do a little bit of coaching for anyone who shows up early (not aimed at you two! LOL) to see if I can get some folks used to short-shifting and setting Diff for better corner exits and fewer mishaps.

Not sure if it's relevant or helpefuly but.. I traditionally don't like LMPs that much but when we raced them last Friday in Baked's evnet I did find a couple that were surprisingly manageable for someone with my lack of skill :).  Baked had pointed me in one the direction of the premium Peugot one, I didn't actually get around to trying that one but I did find the Toyota Minolta and GT-One cars to be surprisingly easy to handle and much more so than a couple of others I tried.  I think we were running those at 666PP and I do remember I added some weight to them too (I think I added at least enough to make them 1000kg or close depending on the starting weight) which seemed to help a bit.

Post by: DudeTuna on June 25, 2013, 10:17:48 AM
I like them at 650-666. They handle well and are plenty fast down the straight. What I don't like is when they turn the lights out at La Sarthe.

@ Feldynn - thanks for the car suggestions.  I'll copy that over to the main thread for anyone looking for something a little easier to handle.

@ Dude, yeah I know what you mean.  The night portion of last week's warm-up race was my worst part!

Wen I practice, if I get to, I will be doing lots of Dark laps.

new specs posted for this week!

over the next couple months we're going to go about using some cars that seem to get ignored by most racing in GT5, but are still actually worthy of being driven.

RX-7 LM this week, with an S2000 LM coming up soon, as well as Integra-R TC and others!

Go grab these from the Online Dealership if you don't have them!!

It was DM's first online race, for instance.

ALpha 8C stock/tunless @ Monza for 26 laps!

Please take a moment to check out this PSN thread where we are deciding our favorite cars to use for the final month of GT5.

We'll be taking the popular choices (unless the just don't work for our type of event) and using them for the "GT5 Send-off" month.

Thanks!

I've wanted to get out there Saturday afternoon, but I am unavailable at that time right now.
I plan on doing some offline racing in the morning, but I will be gone in the afternoon. Sorry. :(

Also, I will try to make the Drive In or something else online Saturday night if I'm not too run down.

Also, also, has anyone else noticed that if you check the friends box in the server browser it doesn't seem to matter if they are host or not it manages to show where your friends are?

Okay, well we won't defriend you just yet ;)  J/k  Take your time and take care of what you need to :)

For me, going to the drive-ins is difficult because it's hard to justify racing two blocks of time in one day... but I'm sure we'll see each other "out there" somewhere :D

And mr. Affiliations, I hope so too!  (someone should check on him if they have his personal info)

As far as I can tell, 'open' rooms will be seen if you have a friend in them, but 'friends only' rooms you need to be on the host's friend list.

I'm not sure what has happened with Cipriani, either.

He was in a GT5 room a few weeks ago, dropped out and haven't seen nor heard from him since. I went through my friends list, yesterday, and saw he hasn't been on for some time. At least not with that account name.

Also, also, has anyone else noticed that if you check the friends box in the server browser it doesn't seem to matter if they are host or not it manages to show where your friends are?

As far as I can tell, 'open' rooms will be seen if you have a friend in them, but 'friends only' rooms you need to be on the host's friend list.

I wonder if that changed then, because on day #2 of release Dmcallis started up the room as "private" and some randoms still showed up.  That's a welcome change ;)

I've also updated the OP with Saturday's specs.

(please note the forced pit stop and tire change - though, we may remove the tire change if it seems too buggy)

I think the hp setting for Saturday should read 395.

Carry on.  :)

actually, I think it was supposed to be 295.  Crap, major brain fart, sorry for the mixup folks!

so, if anyone was looking at the specs and was like, "what?  they're doing WHAT???" and decided to skip this, please take another look!

*UPdate:  Tire wear canceled for today due to pit stop bug*

Hate to do this, but reportedly even when you are just doing normal pitstops sometimes people are not getting their tires to perform the same after the stop.  At least this way the race will be less buggy.

After the first race was aborted, and changing the Host, I was sitting in the pits waiting for the next qualifying to start.

When the screen came up, it was like Whaaaaat...the main race is starting, ah well, it fun to start at the back and spend 29 laps chasing the blue triangles, all good fun, thanks guys.

using the qualifying IMO is a little confusing when combined with a pre-race before main race.  I believe the reason another pre-race was not done was because we were late getting started after the room needed to switch hosts.

You input on whether to use or not use the qualy feature is welcome of course!

I wanted to do a pre-race, then race so that if you didn't like your tune in the pre-race, you'd still have a chance to change it.

Attn Rick, it's Daytona Road Course!

Damn...didn't see this until 3 minutes ago.

This year's event of the same overall format is now posted.  As you may have noticed in other threads, there still seems to be an issue with tire wear & pit stops.  We are doing our best to determine what to do for these settings before Saturday's race.  Any testimonials about how wear is behaving are always appreciated!

I hope to see a lot of you at the race this week!

also... RICK, the race is at DRC and there's a vette listed!!!!

NOTICE:  Please read these items

Spec Change:  WING/AERO now optional.  Use it if you feel you need to or prefer to use it!

Setting Change: Tire wear will be on FAST.  (Pit stop bug appears to not be a problem, but we may still encounter glitches.  Hopefully, if we do, everyone is affected similarly.)

Aero Tips:  Ok everyone, Aero parts WILL be allowed for the race at Daytona this weekend. Please take into consideration that adding a wing to your car will slow your car on the high speed sections of the track. Please understand the effect of the "flat floor" option for most cars. This option helps your car handle better in the corners by creating a sealed cushion of air under the car, creating more downforce on the car. When adding the flat floor to your car, take a look at the Performance Points with and without the option. In the M3 for example, the flat floor costs you 25 Performance points, in the end this will slow you down tremendously on the straights because you will have to lower your HP to meet the PP requirements.  The flat floor may also decrease top speed for aerodynamic reasons.

Choose wisely ;)

Awesome race ex. Well done all. That was a very fun GTSaturday's race indeed. I was lucky to find a nice tune at HaB (http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/hab-racing-gt500-300-base-dtm-gt3-tcs-roadcars-450-550-600pp-online-only.293305/page-5#post-9111213) for the Viper.

I tried the CTR2, V12 Vantage and the Viper. The Viper was 2 seconds quicker than the CTR2 and 1 second quicker then the Vantage.

I wanted to take the CTR2, but it was way off the pace for me.

Well done everyone and I still can't believe where that 2 hours went. Wow Good Times All!  ;D

While the CTR2 was off pace and the front tire wear may have actually helpe. The fuel consumption needs to be checked. I did 14 to 15 laps in Viper, I believe ex did 17 or something laps in Vette.

Again, thank you all. that was a very intense and exciting race. Good Jorb

Yes, and if I do another enduro before this is fixed I will set my car up to wear the front tires first. That was after the first stint the fronts and rears should wear equal. :)

Thanks Dude, that was a really good race.  There were a couple stints where we would physically in close proximity and some good racing for sure.  Even when I thought "well, I'm behind, but I'm sort of mathematically ahead" (via pit strategy) I was really sweatin' that you would pull it off, then you just ended up making more mistakes toward the end than I did.

regarding Pit stops and tire wear, I think the verdict is still out:

I got a 1:47.1 on the first stint, and two 47's on the last stint, with two 48 flats.  That's when I was specifically trying to get a good lap time and Dude was far enough behind to allow me to test it.  The rest of the time, there were race conditions and strategy that caused slower times.

I think if everyone made zero mistakes, and pushed hard every lap, each stint would have been a lot alike.

I do think there was a LITTLE more rear wear after the first stop.  I only got 17 laps out because of fuel conservation, FYI.  You'll see several spots where I was using less throttle and shifting early.  I ran out of gas coming into the pits twice ;)

I also saw similar tire wear / laps, etc.

I also tried to use lower revs for the 2nd and later stints, but I don't know if I was consistent enoughn to really make a difference. Going off the track 3 or more times because braking points changed with new tires didn't help.

Good fun as always, and I did OK for just winging it.

this week's specs posted in the OP

*Pay close attention to which kart is used on which track

We are trying to attract a few kart-loathers to this event from the PSN.  This will be a good opportunity to show people how good and reliable the karts can be, in the right hands.

I plan to show up quite early this week to help anyone who has problems.  Some of you who are better at karts than me could lend a hand if you desire.

copy pasta from other thread:

I just posted what I think is a pretty interesting spec for this week which attempts to use a combination of hp, pp and kg to equalize four cars.

I think this might make for some very close racing.  I got 1:53's in all but the Viper, which seems just a smidgen slow.  The race specs were specifically designed for the 599 and Corvette, but the Mazerati and Viper can come out and play, though each less sophisticated than their bretheren.

we're also experimenting with NoS for the first time this week.  Since we are not using tire wear or pitstops until the bug is fixed, we thought introducing NoS would add another element of strategy to the races.

So, it's one longer race, you get to choose the strength of your nitros shot, and you get to decide when to use it!

this race format worked out very well.

Note to other race organizers who may try to do something similar:  Test hp,pp, and weight for each car at the specific track you intend to use.  Once you change tracks things change too much.  A collection of "like" tracks might all exhibit close matching of cars, but when you change to a completely different style of track there may be disparities.

Monza with the Maseratti GT S, the Ferrari 599, the Corvette Stingray, and the Viper GTS all equalized pretty darn well with the hp and pp not being attainable really by any of them, unless the Ferrari was neutered to the point of having really no power band and way too much torque for the exits of corners.

To be clear, the explicit purpose of using numbers that no car can attain all of, is so that one car is restricted by one number, and the other car by the other.  This could be a new way to set up car classes for those interested.

It would have been good to race with you again, and I think I did see you come online.

I was, however, using my old PS3 for watching netflix to just relax after a long week of dealing with a sick baby, going on a trip, and having a 10yo around.

Glad you guys seemed to have fun,

also, thanks for posting the specs here.

specs posted to op for this week!

Please join us if you can!

Ask any questions if you don't understand what we're doing differently this week.  It should be something to break the monotony at the very least!

Specs for this week are still being ironed out.  But it will probably be American Muscle cars, termed "Fogy" cars a while back in a defunct series from the PSN.

If you want to start buying cars, it will be anything considered a muscle car from the late 60s early 70s, no Shelby's or Vettes, at around 525pp and 1500kg.

We are also looking at a hp limit around 500hp...

In the meantime, here is a video from one of last week's races.  This is not our normal race format, just an experiment.

Cool, cool. I will be out this Saturday, but I had a blast last weekend. I would have played in the dirt for the second half, but I was discoed right at qualifying start.

See you all soon.   :)

Hi Brindle. :)

It's not too bad.
I'm a DS3 user, and with the SH tires, the car is relatively stable. It can get a bit squirelly, but you almost have to make it break loose. So, I'd assume it's even better with a wheel. I was having a blast in the corkscrew while testing @ Laguna Seca.  :o

Thanks for the info on the car. :)

What setup do you guys use on the controller?  I could barely beat bronze on the academy with a controller.

and Brindle, good to see you back.

Hi GoesTuna11.

If you're referring to the controller sensitivity, I have mine set at "5".

Or did you mean car set up?

Thanks GT.  :)

Not sure what you mean by setup, but...  I use left stick for steer and right for gas/brake.  My best time on the TT with the controller was 1'03.9xx  Probably could have matched my current time (with the wheel), but don't have enough interest in TT's to do more than a 5 to 10 lap session.

Oh and sensitivity at 6

I tried it at Tsukuba last night for a few min, and it was pretty fun.  Tight turns can break loose rather easily.

Mine was totally stock so a little bit of tuning would make it feel a lot more like other true "open wheel" cars.

Having a front engine, it doesn't exactly drive like a formula car, but I can see it being fun to drive IRL and perhaps on a track, though it's definitely more of a roadster.

yea, for the record, whenever you see me ahead of Brindle in a TT, it's probably because he did 5-10 laps and I did 50-100 :D

It would be nice if they shared that stat along with a "number of minutes track time" stat.

When fully blown, this car is much more difficult to handle than when stock.

I am willing to weaken it, to make it handle better. That may mean I can't be a contender, but at least I won't be dangerous.

A few notes about the event and car:

The car is expensive.  Run some races to buy one soon if you don't already have one.

We're running approx 1.5 hours - It will require concentration and control of your car.  Controller users should specifically practice keeping the car smooth in corners especially with traffic to either side.  This will be the biggest cause of wrecks, which we should each specifically try to avoid.

The car has a lot of power - DUH.  You'll find you can be on the throttle most of the time, but be careful when behind a car going into a corner.  They will need to slow, and you will need to make a clean pass or slow down even more.

Aero is available of course, but you may not want it.  Significantly higher speeds are found with it very low or off.

Draft is on WEAK, not real, which amounts to a medium amount of draft.  This is the only way to give boost for a pass because NoS is not available for this car as we had hoped.

Tire Wear is ON Normal - Tires last pretty well if you treat them nice, but certainly at least two pit stops will be needed, so plan for that and practice pitting.  Most of us haven't done it in quite a while :smileyvery-happy: (take note of pit-entry speeds for triggering a successful pit.  USE THE ENTIRE PIT EXIT LANE (that exits you out onto the back st raight) AND ZOOM MAP OUT TO FULL MAP VIEW.

Fuel - Always grab more than it tells you to grab.  Several liters more at least.  Drafting to save fuel may be a good strategy for some.

Lapped Traffic - This is a little different in this scenario IMO.  Because it's an oval, and we'll all essentially be travelling just as fast, there is no need to automatically let lapping cars pass.  HOWEVER, you must maintain control of your cars as they attempt to pass and do everything you can not to disrupt the race up front.  If you find yourself with little control and you think you'll wreck the leaders, ease off a little bit where safe (probably on a straight) and let them pass a little easier.  But feel free to try to hang with them in a pack afterwards (again, so long as you are not disrupting them).

Walls - Going wide in the turns is often faster and more attractive for ovals, especially for trying to avoid helping another car draft (outright dodging and weaving is still discouraged), but keep in mind that if you even touch the wall, you'll potentially be wrecking several cars behind you.

Overall, just be careful and get some good practice in before the race on Saturday.  A few of us will definitely be doing more practice throughout the week, and so you can probably find a time to join us.  We will also open up the race loung earlier on Saturday for more practice and testing.

Specs for this week are:

Ferrari F40 @ Silverstone International Circuit

The spec includes 1240kg which amounts to doing all weight reductions and adding in more weight.  I suggest you put it to the front ;)

There is no aero option for this car, so tuning the diff and suspension will be key.

I started with a Diff setting of 12/26/20 though I was not totally comfortable with those settings.  It will be better than stock, however.

Summer is coming to a close, and so participation in this event is likely to increase again to its normal levels (8-12 weekly)

If you've hesitated to race with us recently due to lack of participation, I'd bet you'll be surprised at how things pick up again over the next few weeks.

Here are some fun specs for this week.  An actual spec race with the X-bow 'R'

One must use the precise HP/PP/ and KG settings shown, including oil change it will take a Semi-racing exhaust and no power limited to reach.  If someone shows up with less power by even 1hp, we'll know they are using more torqey parts that are not allowed and ask them to switch parts...

Full 55min (approx) race with tire wear on Normal, which should make for probably two pit-stops and an odd number of laps which will make it interesting I think!

See you there!

clarification:  Let's use the dealership 'R' version only because the anniversary edition has significantly more torque.

Thanks

Fun, little car this week!

Note, penalties are on strong but may change.  It seems very easy to cut here at this new track without setting to strong, but only gives 3 sec time-out so not too bad.

Thank you GT Saturdays, even when I finish first at failing I still have fun. Way to go Windfire. I was happy to see a 1'59 with low fuel and fresh tires, your 1'53's and 4's were untouchable. Good times everybody. That Devil of a car was definitely, properly named.

It was going well until I misjudged an exit and had to pit early.

You don't win races while sitting in the pits.

A few drivers have noticed that GT6 holds cars after all of the requested gas has been poured into the cars.
Don't know why, but if we can find a pattern, I will ask about it.

that is one of the ways that PD enforces the Pit Speed limit, so I've heard.

I've seen people claim it is a silent penalty for pit lane infractions.

Really? I am sure this is the first time that I have heard of this.

Off-hand, I don't think you can enter Spa too fast and I got one there when I wasn't even pressing on the gas before the AI took over. Daytona may be a different situation, though. Don't know.

Yes, Daytona, Indy, and Laguna Seca have been "special" in this sense.

Good race up at the front.

I only have myself to blame for just jumping in a race with no preparation at all.  In the mad rush to get the Z4 on track, I was running 13HP less, plus horrible oversteer in mid corner and exit.  During the race, I kept on wondering how come I can run a 29-20 lap stint, while others needed to pit much earlier.  I do not believe that I was driving ultra conservatively that I could save 5-7 laps of fuel.  That 13HP made a difference I guess.  I could only squeeze out 1'47 fastest lap (3 to 3.5 sec loss to 500HP which I checked afterwards) Oh well, next time.

I knew I would have to do 3 stops as I was getting about 6 laps on 25 L, so 22, 44, and 66 seemed to be the best choice based on running on good tires.

thanks!

Glad you guys made it.

re: 3 stops, I did the math early, and when the tire wear started to look kind of low, but still turning fast(ish) laps, I tried to redo the math while driving and what I came up with was that I'd have to do 7-8 more laps on tires that were starting to feel sloppy.  Felt that the smarter thing to do was pit three times.  As we all felt at one point or another, an off there can add tons of time and amount to almost as much as a pit stop.  Better to take that pit and have fewer offs, IMO.

I made this race video, with changing viewpoints and focussing on closest battles to hopefully make this pretty entertaining if you felt like watching the whole thing.

The leader was not decided until the end... but don't skip ahead if you want some good racing to watch ;)

Overall I am very impressed with how clean this race was, even with some newer-comers involved.

I will be free on Saturday and so I plan on making it out to GT SAturday's Evnet. Here are the details. I'm not sure what has changed in order to join in. You might have to join GT Saturday Club? Hopefully MGT, Ex, DM, TRL or ? will drop by here.

I managed to read. Yes, I know, anyway, you must join GT Saturday Club as it is run from the Club Lobby. :)

Sorry to not remember that not everyone has access to the planning thread. (Or at least looks at it..... ;) )

On the 13th, we will be running 625 PP at LaSarthe.

Let's see if we can get one each of all of the LMP cars in game!

See you then!
