Title: *Backyard 400* Sponsored by Tunaco Race Fuels!
Post by: BakedTuna on March 15, 2012, 02:49:11 PM
Still in talks Found a sponsor for the event and the date has been set for August 29st. NASCAR @ Indy. Probably 779HP and as a heads up don't expect the tire sponsor to be bringing sticky rubber.

Still in talks with group of sponsors for the event but the date has been set for July 22. NASCAR @ Indy. Probably 700HP and as a heads up dont expect the tire sponsor to be bringing sticky rubber.

Oh god... please dont let it become like the Brickyard where they had "competition" cautions every fucking 10 laps. I hated that race

Almost forgot about this!  We obviously forgot about the Firecracker 400.  Either way, I will have some details posted by tomorrow.  I was hoping to do this before the actual Brickyard, but that would be this Sunday!

If it's doable, we can run this Sunday and follow the same scoring as for the Undies, but if not, the scheduled date for this evnet will be August 29rd @ 12pm eastern.

Stay Tunad.....

I might be able to make it. I need to check to see what we have planned at home this weekend before I can commit fully.

I was thinking I had another 6 weeks to get ready for this.

Pick any car you want Grilled and get in there and race.  :D

And with that I guess que the duck.

I'll take Carl Edwards and I'll probably drive the car of the same name. I'll probably test and tuna tonight in my lounge if any one wants to join in for testing.

I got questions though.  Can all Nascar cars run or just 2010s or 2011s?

@ 2010 or 2011?   I don't know...  I tested in a 2010 and never thought about the 2011.  I'll check tomorrow and see if they can both play nice together.

as far as i know both have a max hp of 892hp after break-in and the same weight i havent noticed any difference in my times running either some ppl in the open rooms say the deifferent cars have different characteristics like tire wear and lap times (allmindingers car seems to be a favorite for daytona...) i  personally notice no difference.  allmindingers car at daytona might be a start point alot of ppl dont like dale jr's car so that might be a second car to try for comparison. hope that helps

Don't quote me on it but I think its this Sunday the 29rd. The same day as the real Brickyard 400 and the Falling Skies marathon.

I'm looking forward to this but based on testing I'm beginning to think that Carl is going to have to carry most of the weight.

I tried about 20 laps last night with my new Denny Hamlin Camry (Thanks Chrome) with a tune I just threw on from memory and was turning 49:1xx fairly consistently. I'm sure I can get it into the 48's.

I might be able to make it 20 laps before pitting but the tires were pretty worn.

oh found a interesting lag glitch the other night... a lag bump could ruin anyones race was testing some with tank earlier in the week going into turn 3 'pushing him' suddenly i had front end damage on both right and left with a blown engine.
LAG BUMPS SUCK ASS WITH FULL DAMAGE!! something to consider when in tight quarters or bump drafting. :(

I haven't had much time for practice and none at all with drafting so I was hoping someone could let me know a good top speed to go with.

not sure of exact speed for the draft  but if you stretch 3rd(all the way left on slider) and shorten 4th(all the way right on slider) as much as possible using 3rd in clean air and 4th in the draft you should have plenty of gear. didnt have a large draft pack to test with so not sure and draft isnt as important at indy as daytona only gonna gain 10-15mph most likly. :-\

It was with the wrong tires but I've seen 220mph in a weak two car draft.  Keep in mind that was from a about 1 sec back from the car in front of me on the front stretch which is sloped very slightly down hill. I'm just going to play it safe and keep a top speed in the 240s.

Being I always need all the help I can get, I would like to change my driver to Jeff Gordon, being nobody has picked him.  4 time winner...you never know...That way, I can switch cars and drive his car...LOL

Is this ok?

Also, I am gonna practice for a bit...if anybody is up to it, let me know.

I am currently watching race day on speed, but I do not see the race listed anywhere here, so I don't think I'll actually be able to watch it  :'(

Oh well, I need the practice anyways  :-[

excellent racing by everyone that participated. ;D too bad brindle got discoed looked like he had a good car. :(
very few cautions (only 2). :)
think the cautions could be modified to 2 laps for a single car (3-4laps if following is implemented), 3-4laps for multi car wrecks and pit road closed from the time the caution starts till the tail end of first caution lap. maybe split field and pit top half then second half the following lap so there is a leader on track at all times and the field is regrouped prior to pitting. all wreck cars can pit immediately after yellow but have to fall to back prior to restart(no freebies for bringing out a caution). :( cautions felt like a free for all to me, where some thought they got their lap back and others didnt. ??? the replay from laps 40-45 was interesting to say the least... :-\
id be willing to do some shorter races on softer tires to iron out a less confusing yellow flag with pitstops. had fun enjoyed the race hope to run another in the not to distant future.
(feel free to give me shit for being critical its just my opinion).

I'm and work and don't have time to say much so I'll keep it short.

When is the next one?

That was awesome! I love these longer oval races. When is the next one?  :laugh

I'm looking forward to getting through the replay. I'm not sure why the cautions did not work as well as they did in the Undy. Lack of communication, car gaps were too great, cars were slower than undy cars, driver confusion??? I don't know.

Oh... I almost fogot to ask, When is the next one?  (http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss272/james_mikel/STGT%20forum/lol1.gif)

Can some of the 47 sec lap drivers give me their entry and corner speeds for the track?  Some small changes may be needed for the next race.

Also, we can use the TunaCup cautions if you all like.  Baked and I originally went with the current caution, for ease of explanation.  1 car 1 lap, 2 or more cars 3 laps.  My original cautions have a bit more detail, including the pits being closed till a certain time.  Only problem is, there is a lot of wording to it.

I was probably supposed to call CAUTION, but after only 2 laps I would have felt bad calling one so I kept my mouth shut and crashed again after 2 more laps, then again, then again...... Well you get the idea. I could manage a couple of laps in the 48's, but as the tires wore or if I was somehow in traffic my car would not turn.

I did have a good time. Sorry you got the Disco Ball Prize Brindle. I could have used that myself.

That was a lot of fun guys, I wouldn't mind trying one again.

I know for me I didn't hear the 1rd caution called, mainly because part of the deal with me getting time to race on a Sunday afternoon was for me and the boys clean the room. When I went to start I didn't have a wheel at all and after I fixed that I didn't have any sound so I only had TV sound and too low at that. Anyway I didn't hear it and when I figured it out I'm sorry to say I was very confused but I think I was running near the front at the time.

I do like cautions as a whole, especially when running distance races.

Moral of the story was I had a great time and I also should never be allowed to clean the Man-cave  (http://i.imgur.com/LmjyBgx.gif)

I didn't hear the first one either, then I almost took out Grill from behind...then hit the wall and went streight into the pit...that lost me the lap count...and I was in the lead, and I think Grill was in second...LOL...so that was prolly the bigest screw-up...my appoligies...I'll try to do better next time. :laugh...

I don't think its a 47sec car. But I've put mine up for sharing, for any one who wants to try it out.  It's just as it was at the end of the race so its missing about 30hp. I have not yet made any changes.  Just look for the #99 car.  I qualified 3st with a 48.4sec lap which I ran on lap 2 of qualifying and it helped me get a 2rd place finish.
