Title: Mx-5 Cup
Post by: BakedTuna on April 11, 2011, 10:58:18 PM
The support series running for Brindle's next series will be a Mx-5 Cup. Obviously the Mx-5(Miata) will be the only model available. But any year Mx-5 will work the rules are intentionally kept simple 200 HP and 1000 kilos on sports softs. Mazda has come on as co sponsor and asked that we leave the cars stock appearing so no aero add ons but other than that it is wide open for each driver to get to the power and weight however they want.

#2  Deep Forest Raceway reverse    June 22
#3  Grand Valley Speedway    June 29

I'm looking forward to this.  I'd like to see it start 30 minutes earlier though.

Also, the only TV show my wife must watch, comes on Wed nights at 9, so I will be pissing her off every time I run these races. (http://i.imgur.com/LmjyBgx.gif)

Wednesday and Friday are the only days that I currently work at a job that I get paid for.  Both days are long hours with long commutes.

My problem is that through the warm months I may have to work weekends but I am never sure until nearly last minute. Due to this I won't commit to hosting races on weekend days until late fall. Saturday night is the drive in, Tuesdays and Thursdays are out as well. So I am left with Sunday night, Monday evening, Wednesday evening and Friday but if the GT300/500 races end up then I am down to Sunday, Monday or Wednesday evenings.

But the cars look so smexy with their wings...

Actually I'm kinda looking forward to this.

*EDIT*

Since the cars won't be carrying any sponsorship decals, my Car sponsors have asked that my car carry the trademark "Dinoco Blue" paint.

Will that be a problem?

Since the cars won't be carrying any sponsorship decals, my Car sponsors have asked that my car carry the trademark "Dinoco Blue" paint.

I also have some other "Dinoco" paint chips...   Dino Red for example looks rather orange...

At first I thought "Dino" as in Ferrari...   But Ferrari knows their reds so I figured it must've stood for something else.

Any colors, wheels watever. The lack of aero was to keep the standard appearance if a little beefed up to the audience watching from the stands and at home. With their sponsorship Mazda is hoping to help sell a few cars  ;).

Race schedule in OP has been adjusted Eiger is out Rome reverse is the replacement race. As stated before we will be at these tracks the same week Brindle's Gt series will visit them. Will get dates posted in the next day or so. The Mx-5 races will be held on the Wednesday before the corresponding Gt race. Fifteen minute qualifying session will start at 9:30 eastern followed by a race of approximately forty-five minutes. Actual lap counts are still being determined.

Had a good test & tune session with Dude and nosoks. Thunderstorm knocked out the power momentarily, kicking me out of the room. Fucking tornado warnings here.

All is good now. I think I had my Miata dialed in pretty good, with the help of Dude.

How many laps? We were running about 1'50s best, so that's 25 laps/45 min if my math is right.

Q2: Can I Supercharge my Miata?

Q3: What's a good time? I'm turning between 1'53" and 1'55".

Q4: Two wheels on driving surface at all times? Is it ok to cut the chicane down by the marina?

Cutting the Marina Chicane is detrimental to ones lap times, I don't see why people do it. The rumble stripping impairs traction when cut early and a late cut reduces exit speed significantly, I've seen upwards of twenty miles an hour lost due to that.

Congrats to Dude, for last night's race! I watched the time difference between he and I get bigger and bigger as the race went on. Nice job Dude.

Also Fried put in a hell of a run in an NA, that I though was too slow to run with the NC's, I couldn't keep up with him.

Thanks Baked for putting these together.  :)

:stoopid:  Spectacular run Dude.  I couldn't keep up in the old turd, but at one point Dude was playing nice and I was catching him about a half second a lap.  Then with oh say 3-4 laps to go, he hits the "spray" and now he's pulling on me by a half second a lap.

MS

I thought this was the way to approach this track, as well as being very strict about approaching from the outside line. Yes, everyone knows that, but I think it's more important at this track, it's not very forgiving. All of this is what I told someone who has less track time here, in preparation for the GT300.
Title: Re: Mx-5 Cup
Post by: DudeTuna on June 09, 2011, 09:15:46 AM
Excellent evnet Baked. Great fun all.

That track needs total concentration. I had a momentary lapse before the chicane and that was all it took for Baked to get by. Fresh tires would take me 3 laps to get up to speed. Coming out of the pits and seeing that gap dropping like that was unnerving Fried. I felt like I was still doing a decent pace, after watching the replay I see you were putting in some very fast laps.

Also, TunaPitReject and nosoks were setting up to have a battle royal to the finish line, but time ran out. I wonder if we could extend the finish time Baked?

Also, Also, Reject when you see cars get all jumpy on track it is usually right before they disco or they are having connection issues.
Title: Re: Mx-5 Cup
Post by: Brindle on June 09, 2011, 09:25:24 AM
I think that is correct.  I saw neptune in front of me on the track and it looked somewhat steady, with a jump now and then.  He tapped the wall a little bit on one of the corners, or it was lag, which allowed me to sneak by.  I looked in my mirror and saw his car disappear, followed by his signing out.
Title: Re: Mx-5 Cup
Post by: TunaPitReject on June 09, 2011, 10:15:57 AM
Yeah, right after that, he disco'd. And yes, nosoks was coming up fast. I was watching the lap count carefully and praying I could hold him off till the last lap. My tires were wearing out and I was sliding a lot. Had a couple of mishaps and he caught up. Then I put together a couple good laps and just held him off. But I was nervous. LOL.

Worst race for me ever. I was a lap down by lap #3  :'(

Sorry everyone about the crash on lap 1. I simply took that quick little left wrong and a bunch of people were slowed down a lot because of it. Chrome and I probably got the worst of it. I hit a few more walls that race. I'm sure I pitted 3 or 4 times. Too bad, because I had decent pace, as did most of the field, but the guys who kept it (mostly) clean finished the race up front. Good driving guys.

Was a fun race for me, hanging with Dude in the back till you guys had some bad luck then ran together for a bit till I got carried away coming out of 1-2 and got some damage. Spent the rest of the race watching Dude fading into the distance. Good driving Dude, congrats on another win.
Goos times as always and the 300 practice was fun after too, had a bump with EnyoGrill there, don't think I was in the wrong but if I was apologies to you

That was a fun race nosoks. Neither one of us could gap the other, it was looking like it was going to come down to the final lap. I was definitely sad when you tagged the wall.

Rain is horrible with sports soft tires.  I was loosing the rear end on the straights!!!  :o  Lots of unintentional drifting, which Chrome was enjoying.   ;)

Friday will be interesting.    8) 8)

it was an interesting race, as Fried/Brindle says drifting on the straights......... I couldn't keep it together and after I got some damage to the front end the car went completely to hell..... or maybe I just fucked it up  (http://i.imgur.com/LmjyBgx.gif)

Incredibly intense and difficult, still a lot of fun. I got there early trying to dial my car in. I could not complete a lap for the first 20 minutes of practice. I eventually removed the super charger and went with the mid range  turbo which helped stop the tires spinning in 6rd gear. It was still an unstable mess though.

Sorry to split so soon after the race. I actually wanted to discuss everyone's rain horror stories, but I started getting a pretty severe headache around lap 24.

Also, bumper cam does not display how hard it's raining. I changed views to in car and saw why so slidey. And was it just me or after these tires were slightly worn (one eighth) they lost whatever grip they had?

Good Times

Thanks for putting this on Baked.  :bow   Good times, every race.

Congrats to Dude on the overall win!  Consistent is key and you have that figured out.   :)

Great stuff last night.  Even got a war wound from last night's racing.  Was rushing back from a van supply pickup while everyone was patient enough to wait 5 mins for me to show.  A quick  8) during the countdown and we were off.  Had a false start :( and had to work to catch back up to field.  Made it to the leaders and took the lead from Chrome around lap 4 or 5.  Was slowly padding a lead, until I start thinking... Did I lock my fucking car? (real life car).  On lap 8, I decided to run to the window while on the front stretch and clicked the lock button on my remote.  Knowing the straight was ending fast, I start running back to the couch and in the process slammed my shin against the coffee table.   :o That hurt like hell.  Had blood start dripping down my leg and a big ass egg starts to grow.  Needless to say, I missed T1 and about the next 3-4 turns (ask Chrome, he'll tell you).   (http://i.imgur.com/LmjyBgx.gif)

After that, Chrome and I raced back and forth for the rest of the race.  Close all the way to the flag.  Only .034 separated us.

I know, I read that as he set the controller down went to the store for some cheetos, stopped at the van, fell and hurt himself, went to the hospital got sewn up, stopped at the van and then hopped back onto the couch!
