Title: Doin' some fishin'. About possible series.
Post by: BakedTuna on December 21, 2013, 11:00:38 AM
Thats right but this is not the bad kind my fellow Tunas  :) I am wanting to know if there is interest in a monthly series on Friday nights. Time room opens @9 event begins 9:30 shot approx 5 min Q followed by 20 minute race, interrmission followed by a second Q & race. First month would feature doubleheaders some of the following months would use same format allowing us to have an 8-10 race series in just one month. Other months would feature a singe Q & race.

I know I am terrible at explaining myself in print so please ask questions should anyone have some.

Here is proposed series for January
1/10/14 Grand Valley East race #1 forward #2 reverse
1/17/14 London #1 forward #2 reverse
1/24/14 Cape Ring #1 inside #2 south
1/31/14 #1 Motegi East #2 Latuna Seca

First time out for fresh run at a series in Six and I thought shifter karts would be fun.

Questions, concerns or interest in running please let me know.

I have some plans for future events as well but if anyone else has some ideas would dig hearing them.

Basically what I have in mind is a career in a year. If a career can be likened to a laddrr then each stop in a series represents a rung on that ladder. My thought is to run a different series each month. And to mirror the life of a journeyman type racers. It is an online career mode if you will. As I said in OP timing Friday nights 9:30-11:00

Here is what I have so far.

shifter karts JAN 8 sprint races

Rockets FEB first two fridays dblhdr sprints last two fri longer races

Fireblades MAR1 dblhdr and 3 full length races

Miata TC's APR 4 full length races last two would include req. pitstops

Red Bull Jr MAY 1 dblhdr 4 full length w/pit stops last two races req 2 tire compounds

RGT (Porshe Supercup)

GT3

Vintage different classes every week while staying at same track possibly

GT300

GT500

LMP

This probably makes little sense to most of ypu reading this but I need to write it down somewhere to try to go thrpugh and see if it is an idea worthy of trying.

Any discussion?

This looks like a great idea. Friday nights are perfect for me and the shifter carts are awesome.

Put me down.  One question, is this an individual or team evnet? Shifters at Latuna Seca sound very interesting.

Friday is a little more hit and miss for me than it used to be.   That said, I'll make as many races as I can.  Sounds like a pretty cool idea.  :)

These will all be individual events.

This looks like a great idea.

I concur

I'm quite interested too and Friday evening is usually a good time for me too.  I generally have a lot of issues and frustration with karts and LMP cars though so I may or may not be there for those, honestly haven't spent much seat time in either in GT6 yet so it may not be as bad as it was in GT5 so we'll have to see.

I do really like the format though, the progression through the different car classes / types looks really good and should be a lot of fun :).

I more or less get it.  A series of series representing the various stages of a drivers career with each stage lasting 1 month with several double header sprint races with longer races mixed in from time to time.

I like it, but I could not commit to running the entire thing. The most I could probably commit to would be 1 month at a time.

Also, I don't know if you'd want to revisit it but this might be a good way to squeeze in an IROC type series within the list.  There's many ways to do it but I've always like the idea of using the IROC Camaro prototype tuned with more power and non adjustable upgrades. Each night run two races, one oval and one road course.  The idea lends itself to pairing up the Indy, Daytona and Motegi courses.

As for me personally I have a few evnet ideas but I'm trying to stay retired or at least semi retired from event hosting.

Things I'd like to see or do.
1. revive the Undy 500
2. Monte Carlo Grand Prix with the Rocket sponcord by GM's bad debt as held in trust by the US Bankruptcy Court.
3. Smokey and the Bandit. Trans Am vs. Nissan Pace car @ Streets of Willow Springs.
4. Legends of Indy. Basically Indy 500 with the different cars representing points in Indy history/possible future. (Rocket, FGT, Deltawing, maybe a redbull.)
5. NASCAR something

The shifter karts are an entirely different beast Feldynn.

And to be clear I am not asking for anyone to commit to anything just wanting to gauge interest.

Might ask for month to month commitments if this would prove to ne popular enough. But I don't foresee that being an issue right off the bat.

The IROC idea has ran through my head as well.

Only about half the classes listed am I 100% certain of wanting to run. I am still filling in gaps as I think about the concept. If any of you interested in running have a series/month idea I would like to discuss possible options.

Friday nights. Time room opens @9 event begins 9:30

In which time zone? ;)

Friday nights should be fairly open for me, now, although I would like to get more of GT6 finished, too.

Interesting stuff, but Fridays aren't a good night for me.  Could attend infrequently though.

I'm guessing you adjust in the order it's posted in, max speed- 1st through 6th then final. Asking because i'm not the brightest bulb around!

This week's race is at G. Valley E. and G. Valley E rev..

Will have a definite lap count for the race but safe to say 10-15 laps will be ran.

Tip stay off of the curbs.

curious about whether points will carry over from month to month.   :-\

not sure it matters to most participants, but I was just curious.

Points will not carry over in a sense that there will be a cumilative score at the end. The points system will even be varied as one goes through their career and ventures into different series.

At the end I do envision possibly a lifetime achievement award of sorts being given out.

I am kinda using this thread to speak on the overall series of series so here it goes.

So we are now three months in with this Career in a Year experiment and overall I am quite pleased. Good attendance so far and three different Champions with good racing to be had every week. Thank you to anyone who has attended so far
If you have not made it out yet consider this your invite to check things out one Friday night. And yes it is a points series but it is a really low pressure type deal. No commitments needed, your points are tallied if you show up for all the races or just one. If you understand the basics of track etiquette you will be fine.
The race nights have went smoothly with room opening at 9 eastern and first Q at 9:30. We get through qualifying and two races with and intermission before 11. Our efficiency has felt good to me we get in get the event done but without feeling rushed. Further adding to the efficiency feel is the new way of keeping tabs of points this is definitely easier for the staff here at CiaY allowing us to update the points faster and getting them posted faster as well. We hope that it is as well received on the other side as well.

If anyone out there has questions or suggestions let me know.

Also thought I would share this list I am working off of as a tentative schedule. This way if anyone would like to plan their purchasing better hopefully this will help.

*shifter karts JAN 8 sprint races GValley E(x2), London, Motegi E, Latuna, Cape Ring inside & south

*Rockets FEB Silverstone(x4), Ape Hill(x2), Brands Hatch(x2)

*Miata TC's March Special Stage Rt5 all configs, Deep Forest, Trial Mtn.

*Red Bull Jr MAY LaSarthe, DRC, Spa, Bathhusrt, Nurb 24hr

*Caterham Superlight 180 hp and 420 kilos Matterhorn(x3), Willow(x2), Ascari, Motegi E.,Monaco

*GT300 July Nurb D, Monza chica, Cape Ring South, G Valley rev, Silverstone Nat’l & GP, Autumn Ring, Tsukuba

*GT500 August Nurb F, Spa, Cape Ring Perimeter, G Valley, Silverstone Int’l & GP, Tokyo 246, Ape Hill

*Red Bull Std. 2014  IRC, Latuna Seca, Monaco, Motegi, Suzy, Fuji

*LMP Nov  LaSarthe, DRC, Spa, Bathhusrt, Nurb 24hr

*Vintage different classes every week while staying at same track possibly Dec Latuna Seca*

This is not set in stone if PD ever adds something to the game it could shake up the schedule. But this way y'all know what is planned and if there are adjustments that you guys would like to see throw them out there for discussion.

Also Also Wiz has a good idea and I am considering no ABS for some of the future months as the rest of the year is in purpose built race equipment that would likely not have ABS in real life. Certainly this will elicit some responses.

The proposed car for August is the BMW Vision car, for Sept Red Bull Standard, and in Oct. two classes with 6 total cars to choose in the GT class it will be a Vette, a Viper and a M3 oh my, while the LMP class will have a BMW an Audi and a Pescarolo. Details forthcoming. Wanted anyone who needed to budget to have plenty of time to do so.
