Points will be awarded as follows:
10 points for your position plus 10 points for each competitor behind your finishing position.

Example 9 guys show up I finish 3rd I would recieve 70 points.
Or 4 guys show up and you finish 3rd you get 20 points.
This makes it more rewarding points wise when you compete against a larger crowd.

No pre sign ups for the race or season. Just show up the nights you want to race.

*points were ammended

I will try to be there, and if I am, I will still be square, but for a different reason.  It will be because my wife smacked me over the head with a frying pan.

But this sounds awesome so I will do my best to keep things civil and race at the same time :D

Room opens at 9:00 and race at 9:30, if I remember correctly, so if Im' a good baby-daddy and he's asleep by then, it shouldn't be much of a problem :D

I shall be there. and hopefully not kill myself on the first day of my career.  I'm not too good with the karts.

On a lighter note, if any one plans on taking photos you might get a good shot of me hitting a barrier face first.  (http://i.imgur.com/LmjyBgx.gif)

Thats right but this is not the bad kind my fellow Tunas  :) I am wanting to know if there is interest in a monthly series on Friday nights. Time room opens @9 event begins 9:30 shot approx 5 min Q followed by 20 minute race, interrmission followed by a second Q & race. First month would feature doubleheaders some of the following months would use same format allowing us to have an 8-10 race series in just one month. Other months would feature a singe Q & race.

I know I am terrible at explaining myself in print so please ask questions should anyone have some.

Here is proposed series for January
1/10/14 Grand Valley East race #1 forward #2 reverse
1/17/14 London #1 forward #2 reverse
1/24/14 Cape Ring #1 inside #2 south
1/31/14 #1 Motegi East #2 Latuna Seca

First time out for fresh run at a series in Six and I thought shifter karts would be fun.

Questions, concerns or interest in running please let me know.

I have some plans for future events as well but if anyone else has some ideas would dig hearing them.

I was there.

Therefore, I am not a square.

I raced in my underwear.

With a bear.

While eating a pear.

On a dare.

With Rick Flair.

Quick post about the first two races for this series that went down tonight. Outfuckingstanding  :o

The size of field was good 12 & 13 racesrs per race and the depth was good to see as well.

I am already anticipating next weeks two races.

If you missed it be somewhat sad because it was a ton of fun. But you can always make it out next week and see for yourself.

In the second race Grumpy and I had much back and forth. And it was so intense that I was just lost in the driving and racing. Was not playing a game in my mind was driving and racing.

Here was my week.  I was racing the Skip Barber car at Mid-Ohio.  The skippy is a trainer race car.  Not that powerful but it will bite you if you drive it wrong.  It's an absolute blast of a car to drive and perfectly suits the track.  The combo is amazing.  The curves and elevation changes are incredible.  In three races this week, I won the first one because the only fast driver in the group got knocked out in an accident.  My next two races I got knocked by someone who thought they were racing NASCAR and someone who thought they were Aryton Senna respectively.  The moral of my story is that no matter how good the physics, track or car is, you still need good people to race with.

On the subject of shifter carts, I took the shifter cart out to Interlagos karting course.  You guys are going to love this course when GT gets it.  It's so intense.

Bravo everyone!!!!

Man that was fun as hell last night.  Those karts can really make you sweat, especially when the field is breathing down your neck.   ;D
Thanks Baked and company for some good battles out there.  I worked my ass of to get those spots.

Also, I know a few were curious of trans settings, so here is what I used.  Set them in the order shown.

Final - 5.020
Slider - 124
1 - full left
2 - 1.589
3 - 1.255
4 - 1.026
5 - .867
6 - .752

I will most likely only be changing the final gear from track to track.

I just tried this.  Got me down into the 1:09.6's at GV-R

The second race looked familiar with Brindle and bada on the front row. But there was much action to come, by the halfway point we had seen five different leaders and the top five guys were seperated by. 1.1 seconds.

Finishing spots and points below.

Brindle            130
TunaWiz         120
Baked              110
Grumpy           100
badaboya         90
ex_stream        80
crack-shaft      70
peyepete          60
Turbo                50
jlbowler            40
dlrws6              30
Dude                 20
Mondo             10

And yours truly took fastest lap in the race. An honor I will share with Grumpy as us drafting together is when I got that fast time.

Thanks for sharing Brindle.

Also in case anyone is unsure next stop will be London forward and reverse. Maybe this time the host will be smart enough to know which is which.  ::)

So, is it the shifter carts all month?  Or do the vehicles change each week also?  Sorry, I am kinda lost  :-\

Never mind...I just read the name of the thread...LOL

See you Friday...and thanx to both Baked and Brindle for the trans info...maybe I can pull my head out this Friday!!!!

If anyone ever sees me in a lobby and has any questions stop in ask. Cannot assure you that I will have answers but I will share whatever knowledge I do have. Or will turn laps with anyone that wants some seat time to learn a different line or wants to get used to running in traffic. Or just to compare practice times. The more we share with each other the faster everyone gets. And to me that is the end goal a deep pool of quick Tuna to create great fields to race with.

Each month (more or less) is a new series. The thought is to emulate a journeyman proffesional driver's career at each of the stops on his career.

Got out ran some laps with Brindle and Mondo at London these races have the potential to shke up the standings. Even if you have speed patience will be needed in traffic.

I will likely be out there at least one more day this week if anyone else wants some seat time stop on in.

We also checked out Motegi East for a few laps holy crap is that gonna be a fast race.

I got out on London in Arcade TT. Man what a painful track this will be. Best lap was a 53.8xx, I had that ghost beat plenty of times only to have one tiny error cost me 5 seconds. It's so hard for me in a kart because I've always just attacked the kerbs at London. I see London traffic jams in the future.  ^-^

Indeed.  WE'll need to be especially careful of traffic and curbage (like cabbage, except it is very BAD for your "regularity") at London.

I found it more than a little difficult to use my preferred view mode in the race last Friday, which is the interior view for the karts.  Especially at the beginning of the race when we were all passing so closely and stuff, the little indicators weren't enough warning, so I had to use bumper view to get a rear view that I could rely on.

I will probably keep it on that view for the entire London race for that reason, though it is a little less fun.  I don't want to add (too much) carnage to the race.

Dude, your 53.8 seems fairly quick.  I stopped practicing after I got a 54.4 last night.  Knowing there are guys faster than us, it sounds like I have some work to do.

ALso, staying off the curbs isn't too hard.  It's just that it is the most detrimental thing when you happen to miss the mark.  That said, I was by myself.  I can see that traffic and curbage is going to be difficult.

I think we should all agree not to do a lot of position changes on the first lap until things spread out...  There are very tight lines where you can be both fast through a corner, AND avoid the curbs.  If two people try to share that space while maintaining the maximum speed they will have problems.

I would also suggest that when we see two racers in front of us adjusting to make sure this doesn't occur, that we don't try to force our way past at that moment.  Wait for a better moment.

For me, my strategy will be mostly ab out avoiding wrecks and curbs, and seeing where I und up :)

I applied Brindle's gear set.

I was on my way to a 52 a couple of times, but I could not keep it together. I'm sure someone will find some 50's or 51's. The traffic on this tight track is what puts qualifying at a premium. It will be fun and exciting. I'm really looking forward to it.

Yes I use offline arcade TT. I do set to real, but I think that is only for off track excursions. I am too lazy to fire up a server, plus I like a ghost to chase at a later date.  :)

Do we know for a fact that offline is faster than online like was the case in GT5 early on, but was lessened to a degree later in its lifespan?

I have meant to look at that comparison, but haven't gotten around to it yet, like so many other things.

I agree. I will say in the past in GT5 many times my times were usually within a tenth. For some reason though it could change drastically. I don't know if it was the room settings, host settings, number of people and their connections to everyone else in the room or what.

So same fuel, tire wear, grip reduction, etc, settings and much more grip offline?  When will they learn?

It's not necessarily by design, but as a result of their design, if that makes sense.  Online, as many have documented, can be different from room to room.  The processing and communication of all the details involved in Online sometimes aren't done consistently in every room or race.  That would possibly explain why it is not consistent when Online communication protocols are not in the mix.

With "5", they did a lot to polish the offline Practice mode.  When they included the option to set the off-track loss of traction for Practice so that you could get closer to the typical online settings, that helped a lot.  Then, there were some other "under the hood" changes they claimed to make that we don't know the whole story about.  But people noticed even further change.

I would venture a guess that with new GT6 online infrastructure, it will take a bit of time to get this inconsistency ironed out a bit more.

Was bummed tonight. A bit due to a reduced turnout but only mildy still 10 or 11 racers and still a pretty strong field at that. The real reason I am bummed is my performance did fairly well til there was a lighting distraction here in the house made a mistake and felt rattled the rest of the night.. Practiced well Q'd well and let myself down in the race.

Points wise Brindle pulled further ahead while 2rd thru 7st probably got tighter. Will post the updated results and points by Sunday at noon.

Thanks to those who braved the streets of London. Maybe we could figure out a way to show a video of the race each week

Maybe we could figure out a way to show a video of the race each week

I can make this happen.  I can capture in HD and am verified at Youtube to post long videos.

I'm not sure how reliable I'll be about making it happen, but I'll do my best.

Suggestions on the best way to go about capturing the replay are welcome.  I'd probably stick to the replay camera for most of it, following the action wherever it may be.  Another thought I had was to use cockpit cam or exterior view and follow the person with the fastest lap for one or two laps.  That way everyone else could see the fastest lines that were taken, braking points, technique, etc.  Might be a good learning tool.

I'd like to have nothing on the screen but will probably need to turn the map on so I can see where the action is.

new points totals

Brindle        470
TunaWiz      390
Baked         370
badaboya    320
Grumpy       300
peyepete    270
jlbowler      150

crackshaft  130
Ballistic       90
Dude          90
dlrws6        80
Mondo        80
AgentWD40  10

I won pole in both races and took fastest lap in the first race of the evening while Wizard took that honor in the second race.

As for the points battle looks like Brindle has a stranglehold on the lead but the most of the rest of the field is involved in one of two battles.

Got something for you all.  Hope it's useful.

First, a huge thanks goes out to Socks for informing me of using ballast in the kart to settle the rear end.(http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss272/james_mikel/STGT%20forum/tip_hat.gif) He said to run around 10kg of weight, with it all the way to the back (+50).  It does help a lot to add weight, but how much is a personal preference.  Myself and Baked prefer 1-3kg depending on the track to settle the rear end, where Socks likes it around 8-10kg.  I strongly suggest you try/test different kg numbers, as it will help a lot.

Set in the order shown.

I ended up using some ballast due to my research on Karts in GT5... just a couple kgs is usually all that is needed.  Then, good inputs help to keep it happy on some jumpy high speed corners.

I was bummed because I took special time to make arrangements to race Friday but the game didnt' want to cooperate with me.

1st race, couldn't see half the field.  That confused me and I got a false-start.  THen, the Kart wouldn't get going in 1rd after taht.  It was good I started at the back, because I may have wrecked some of the people I couldn't see otherwise.

2nd race, I could see all but one of the participants, and qualified 3rd.  First lap or two, I was hanging with the leaders, feeling good.  Then BAM on the last turn I couldn't brake or steer.  The game just freaked out on me.  Backed up, turned the wheel, and got into 1rd gear, and the thing still went straight into the wall.

Decided to bail on that race too, to avoid wrecking the night for everyone.

Then I got some booze in me and all was better ;)

I'll try to see if this week is any better  :-\

This Friday is Cape Ring inside 21 laps and Cape Ring South 16 laps. Seen plenty of fast times out there in different practice sessions from many of the guys in the field. This season looks like it could finish really strong.  :)

Thanks Baked,

I'll try to be there, sounds like fun.

Don't forget to try some Brindle Gears.  ^-^

Cape Ring Inside

Thanks Dude,

I'll definitely give them a shot.

My wife and oldest are sick and I'm hoping they will go to bed early. Been that way all week and gave me a chance to play the game.

WOW I really mean it fuckin' WOW great racing out there. You guys are are an amazing bunch of racers and gentlemen. I had an amazing time the drama involved in both the qualifying and racing has been perfect. Hoping we can ride the wave into season two and possibly pick up a few who are not fond of karts. But for right now I am enjoying it because of my piers thanks everybody.   8)

Second race saw four people, probably on same gears, run the majority of the race within arms reach of each other culminating in a finish of the four being seperated by 0.8 second of each other. Yep 1rd thru 4st just eight tenths of a second after sixteen laps at Cape Ring South.

Extremely fun series, what an awesome GT6 toss into freezing water start. Karts are the beginning of a lot of well known racers careers.

I have learned the karts hate me, aside from that I am ready to move on. The career in a year is sweet and it seems we are on to some lovely light sabers.

Thank you Baked for the series and thank you all for giving it a go.

Sorry I made it too late to the race in the series all. You guys are fun to watch though.  8)

I had two great close races Friday night as well.  It was only my second showing at this series, partially because of technical issues a couple weeks prior... but this evening was pure awesome.

I ran a very close race with Baked to beat him out on race #1 by .003 = very fun.

(btw, I'm sure I probably unintentionally separated baked from bada's draft and he probably should have been up there with him, but our back and forth (probably at least 6 times) battle was really really fun :D

Then, Pete gave me a great battle in the 2rd race that lasted for quite a while!

That's what matters most over winning stuff like this -- having a GREAT, close, yet hard race with someone near you on the track!

MrFibbles - check out GT Saturdays (listed here on this site or on PSN) because we will be doing one of the single-gear karts in a week or two...  It will be a good way to learn especially if you show up to the lounge early and turn some laps with a few of us.

Thanks to everyone who braved the waters to start their career in karts. The opening season was filled with tight racing that provided some spectacular passing and great finishes. It will be interesting to see what these future stars of racing can do as they get to the next level.

The final two races were at Laguna Seca and Motegi East. At Motegi Brindle took the pole and the victory with badaboya getting runner up honors and ex_stream rounding out the podium. Then at Laguna Seca the top two from the last race flipped qualifying and finishing positions with Baked taking the third spot. Congrats to all podium finishers.

And now for the season ending points totals

Brindle       780
Baked        640
badaboya   580
TunaWiz     500
peyepete    400
Grumpy      390
ex_stream  230
jlbowler      190
Mondo       150
Turbo        140
crackshaft  130
Dude         130
nosoks       110
Ballistic      100
dlrws6         80
AgentWD40  10

Congratulations to everyone this much fun for me I am hoping many of you felt the same way.
