Does powersliding on dirt / gravel count as drifting? I don't know but the folks at PD included a dirt track in the latest round, I had posted some shots in the other photo thread but here's a couple more of my epic run at Toscana in the mighty Mitsubishi Lancer 1600 GSR Rally Car :).

It took a good few hours of practice and do-overs, would probably have been easier if I'd used a more suitable (i.e. powerful) car since that poor thing only made it up to like 208hp will the Stage 3 turbo but where's the fun in that :), and the final result was I just about managed to fish-tail my way into the top 100 on the official leaderboard with a score of 14,113 (though I'm sure I've dropped a few spots by now).
Didn't do quite so well in the Autumn Ring one but that's mostly my fault for another silly car choice, here's a couple of shots of said silly car, drifting in BMW 120d.. diesel powah! :)

It's kinda dumb that those markers show up in the replay at all. I can maybe see a benefit to having it in the replay, but when you switch to photo mode... who would want them in their pics?

When I am by my self I do just fine but once I got in with the others I could not maintain a drift to save my life. So, why not, you would not be alone and you might pick up on some tips to get you that little bit more in the drift trials and get the full payouts faster.

I wanted to run something different in the seasonal drift, so I grabbed this Infinity G35. It is not too shabby.

After about 6-7 attempts, I was able to break into the 10k score, and was happy with that. Then jumped in the "Mad Merc", and beat the G35's score on the 1rd attempt.

I found it to be easier to treat the 1th two sectors as one.

I think just about anything with 400+HP will do. The drifts at Deep forest are kind of long, so you need some power.
I was caught off guard by the insane amount of traction at Chamonix. I haven't run any snow tracks in a while, did the updates change the way these tracks handle?

Yeah Chamonix really threw me too, the last offroad drift I remember was one at the Eiger a while back (pre 2.0) and it was dead easy to drift with even low powered cars, back then I used the Nissan Bluebird rally car. For this new one I tried the 70s Mitsubishi Lancer rally car that I'd used before and almost couldn't get the car to slide at all (I know it was dirt but at Toscana a whlie back the car was a dream to drift) and couldn't get even a halfway decent score, even in a higher powered car it was still WAY more grippy than I ever remember.

I saw something new this weekend, actually, the first time ever. Someone doing doughnuts in front of their house. I couldn't really see what the car was do to the fact that the house was only partially visible up the cliff from me. Yup this guy was going in circles between his porch and a 100 foot drop off for about 2 minutes. He probably had a couple of feet to spare on each side. :o Sounded like a six banger with no exhaust. :-\

So I'm finally getting the hang of this drifting thing. I was never a fan of drifting but I realized it was probably because I sucked so bad. Now that I somewhat know what I'm doing, I have to say it's a lot of fun.

I haven't really put my normal amount of effort into this weeks drift event. I was running getter done runs but now that that I have gotten the 45 min of Le Mans B-Spec done I can focus on these events.

I don't usually drift AWD, but on this one I tried the LSD at 5,5,5 front---10, 40, 10 rear, center diff at 90, and it was just like a 2WD car.

Comfort Soft or medium... I can't remember. Comfort hards are a no-no with that Vette. Especially for me... and a wheel.

I have the vid loading now but I'll get this out in the mean time. Comfort soft are a no-no, they are notorious for snapback. With you running a wheel that will only make things far more difficult and tiring on you. I would recommend using a staggered tire setup, of hard on front and medium or soft on the back if you need to have a softer compound.
*EDIT*
After watching the vid that is exactly what is happening, try the tire stagger, you'll find it much more useable.

The speedway could be pretty fun, with the two sets of turns being so different. Definitely not the flat out track DSS is.

My drifting on asphalt is purely by accident, and I really suck at it when I try. Off-road will be a different story ... ;D

It annoys me too, PD's scoring system is flawed big time. On a real life drift course, you have clipping points. Those are spots on the track that you need to be close to, most of the time designated by a cone or something, and usually reflect the normal racing line. The problem with GT's scoring is, it is on the inside of every turn. The tighter to the inside you are, the quicker the score will climb, and the amount of angle seems to have no effect on score, which sucks too.
In real drifting you are scored on, speed, angle, and driving line.
In GT drifting you are scored on, hugging the inside, and amount of time spent in the scoring area. Which is why it's so easy to cheat the score. The slower you can go, the more time you'll spend in the score zone, therefore the higher your score.
I run them like it's the real thing. Hit it hard, and try to make it pretty to photograph. :)

yeah, last time i checked, the top 20+ were cheaters using FF cars. I don't get it, you gain nothing, and everybody knows you're a worthless cheater. :-\

Also, the Ford Falcon above is a very nice one to use. Smooth, and predictable.

GT Arena is blocked in Drift Trials, so I had to run these in TT's. I ran a 39.075 :laugh

It's not just you. It's like the physics are different for just that evnet. I meant to check if they forced SRF, as they have before in DTs, which is pretty effin stupid.

It's more the car than anything. I had difficulty as well but other drift trials and attempts all went fine. I think it's likely that they have the wrong tires on the car, I've been meaning to go back and redo that one on different tires as I did not learn that tires could be changes until the second trial.

Got the usual suspension, and driveline mods, but the only power adder is semi racing exhaust. This car felt like old times, even though it's running 200+hp less than I did in 5.

For a heavy sports car, with too much front brake, it does drive pretty good. :laugh
Actually I found it not that difficult to turn laps without drifting, I'm just not that fast in it.

That one is maxed out, and it's too much. Starts spinning instantly, which makes it really hard to get some momentum going. Probably would work great on a fast track, with big turns, drifting at 200mph. (http://i.imgur.com/LmjyBgx.gif)
