Aug 26 - Classic 1.6
« on: August 24, 2011, 04:47:17 PM »

Details
When: Friday, Aug 26th, 2011
Showtimes: ~9:00 pm (Eastern)
Where: Custom tracks
Cars:  Classic 1.6L lightweights (see list below)
PP Limit: 420 (for most cars)
Power Limit: 197hp
Weight Limit: 600kg
Tires: Sports Soft
Lap Count: depends on the track
Number of Races: as many as we can run

Another set of cars that doesn't get a lot of use. These are fun cars to drive. They're light, low powered, and they're classics. The 420PP spec is really good for most of these cars (a few might require Minor detuning). I don't have the specs finalized, but I may go with the traditional 420pp (for most cars). It fits these cars nicely. I can say that the only class fitting car I don't want to see is the Europa. It's too damn fast. The Europa is welcome, I guess. My first tests were with kg/hp ratio, where the Europa kicked ass. With PP matching, it wasn't quite so dominant. If you notice you're cleaning up every race because of your great car, lower your PP 5 or 10 to see what happens.

This will basically be just a bunch of random races on custom tracks. I will make a few tracks, short and long, and a few others load theirs in the lounge. I'll try to get races around 10-12 minutes long.

Generic Suspension Tune - will help most cars with mid-corner stability (if you know a better way, do share :) :
Ride Height: F 0,  R 10
Spring Rate: 8.0, 8.0
Dampers Comp: 6, 3
Dampers Ext: 5, 2
Sway Bar: 2, 1 (or stock)
Camber: 0, 2.0
Toe: 0.00, 0.00

The first 4 areas were the ones that helped me the most. I didn't test the last 3 much, but I suspect that if the cars are too loose, some + rear toe might help. I think this tune helps the stability of most of these cars mid corner. You could tune them to make them corner faster/quicker, but be careful, it's easy to make them unstable.

Oooh, excellent car list Turbo!  I know you haven't set the PP limit yet but I was wondering if you'd thought about possible restrictions on upgrades, perhaps something like "must use stock suspension" so we get that classic car leaning when going around corners?

Sorry, I won't be driving these cars with stock suspension. I will post a basic setup that helps get rid of that nasty mid corner slide though. It won't be perfect - either for fast cornering or perfect stability - but it will be more stable than stock and maintain good cornering ability. I'll have a tire limit, hp limit, weight limit, and specific 'suggested' PP for the cars I tested.

Nice list of cars. I'll have trouble deciding which to pick.

No problem :), and like Chrome I'm going to have trouble picking something(s).  My initial thoughts aim towards the Alpine A310, Triumph Spitfire, Mitsubishi Galant, Toyota Celica and Isuzu 117 Coupe though I like everything on the list and may well end up in something completely different :).

Feel free to change cars through the evening. I will be doing so. This is not any kind of series-event. It's just a tour of custom tracks in little old cars. Main PP setting will be 420, with some weaker cars given an boost up to 430PP. I'll update the OP this afternoon I hope. Also, I may change my mind on the Europa.

How long do you plan on running these races?  I'm interested but doubt I could sign in before 10 or even 1030pm EST.

I'll probably run until 10:30 or 11. I don't know what the crowd - assuming people are able to show up and stay - will do when I leave. I would hope that they stay in those cars at that PP. They might disperse for their own personal reasons or for a break before the midnight festivities.

Scratch that. I'm here.

I don't know if anyone needs tuning advice (I'm terrible at it so I take what I can get), but years ago, Forgetful posted a link at PSN to this:

http://www.240edge.com/performance/reference.pdf

It's a "Here's How"for everything suspension. And it can fix anything.

I printed a copy and have it sitting on my Obutto at all times. It's WONDERFUL... aaand I just wiped out on track but I'm going to chalk that up to "User Error."

Awesome cars Turbo, thanks for putting it together!  And that was some awesome racing too, I tried a few different cars during the course of the night but the biggest surprise for me was the Nissan Bluebird 1600 Deluxe.. maybe I just struck it lucky with the right settings for my driving style but the one race I ran it in it seemed to run "just right".

Good times for sure :), hopefully there'll be more like this with some of the other classic cars from yester year!

Didn't think I was going to make it, but managed to drop in late and run a few. I was slow in my Alfa, but still had a ball.

Thanks guys.
