2012 Japanese 90s Sports Car Series! - COMPLETED
« on: November 28, 2011, 03:49:11 PM »

The idea is to have competitive races once a month with a field full of different cars. Tuning would be limited so that investing a large amount of time is not necessary to having fun and be competitive. You would use the same car for every race so familiarity would exist.

I've picked out and tested 10 cars that once modified to a 480PP limit are similar in performance. I've posted a spreadsheet on Google Documents so if you send me your email addresses I will invite you to view it (or if someone wants to tell me how to hotlink it to this post I will do that). The cars would be allowed to reach the 480PP limit only through power increases. No weight reduction is allowed as this would give an unfair advantage to the AWD vehicles. And only minor power reduction would be allowed (just a few percentage).  If you want to use an AWD vehicle you suffer the weight consequences. Limited tuning is the name of the game so allowable modifications are as follows:

-480PP upper limit
-Anything goes to hit the max power that PP will allow. Bolt-ons, engine upgrades, turbos, etc...anything goes
-No weight reduction
-No aerodynamic aids
-full drivetrain mods allowed, including adjustable LSD
-stock transmissions only
-race medium tires (or less if you want)
-height adjustable suspension only
-engines and chassis can be rebuilt if the cars are used and are eligible for restoration.

Eligible cars:
(Premium)
'97 R33 Skyline GT-R V Spec
'94 R32 Skyline GT-R V Spec II
'89 Fairlady Z 300ZX (Z32)
'91 Acura NSX
'91 Mazda Efini RX-7 Type R
(Standard)
'99 S2000 (US, J, EU doesn't matter)
'97 Supra RZ
'98 Mitsubishi GTO Twin Turbo (3000GT VR4 is allowable but heavier so I wouldn't bother)
'97 MR2 GT-S (not G-Limited)
'99 Honda NSX Type S Zero (any model year in the 90s is allowable but NOT the Type R)

Depending on how many people participate I would prefer no more than 1-2 entrants using the same vehicle (i.e. if we have 8 people racing then everyone use a different car, but if we have 12+ then duplicates are allowed). Since some of the cars are standard you might not have them easily accessible. If you want I can send any of the listed cars to anyone. I would require that everyone use the same car for every race, as this will minimize prep time. However I think it would be fair for everyone to have one "mulligan" where if they don't like the car they use for the first 1-2 races they can switch. But just once. I would want to start this race series in 3-4 weeks and hold an event once a month on a date that works best for everyone involved.

races would be 45 minutes long.  I want them long enough for tear tire wear to be a significant factor otherwise the mid-rear cars will have a significant advantage.

as to venues I don't have a list in mind however I'd favor tracks that exist in real life as well as pass friendly tracks to keep things interesting.

Here's a link to a Google document displaying the testing information I gathered.  For the lap times I took best of 5 laps.

I might be available as field filler.  ::)

I drove the 2006 S2000 yesterday for seasonals and I loved it. I would try the 1999 version.

^Sorry Ronin!  I wanted to keep the car list relatively short, well rounded and all 2 door coupes!

I'm gonna start this in a few weeks (just once a month races though).  Figure 15 minutes practice/qualifying (time depends on the circuit length) and then we'll line up for a 45 min race.  Any specific questions just ask.  If you want to participate please state which days of December are NOT good for you :D

I'll be out of town from tonight through Sunday so I most likely will not be around till then.

Have a great weekend everyone  :jimi:

Sigh...I understand!  And based on your sig I'm not surprised you said that, lol.  Thing is, I don't want 1/3rd of the field to be Skylines (as well as AWD) so I limited it to the R32 and R33.  I also shot down the '98 Impreza WRX Sti 2 door b/c I just want a few AWD cars involved.  Lemme see if that car's inline (performance wise) with the others and if so we can bring it in.  After all, when possible I do like to please as many people as I can.

Party at Wolfpack's house.

LMAO.  Well, I was up North...and I was able to convince TunaPhreak to come into Manhattan Saturday evening for some heavy drinking ;D

If this train needs a caboose, let me know.  480 PP is about as fast as I can go without hurting myself or someone else.
