If anyone is interested, i have the schematics for the pvc construction including dimensions, and the types of pipe fittings that are needed. We used Schedule 40 PVC, and it feels plenty sturdy.
On a related note: As much as i love driving, in recent years it has been causing me intense, and sometimes unbearable pain in my right knee (most likely tendonitis). I always had a feeling like this was due to my driving setup, but i really had no other options at the time. Since using this rig, i have been able to drive for extended periods of time with little to no aggravation of the knee. I am thoroughly enjoying sim driving again
