Can't log in? Try this.
« on: April 05, 2011, 07:21:17 AM »

On 4/4/11 a number of us experienced problems logging in to the PSN servers. Infiniti found some helpful information posted below:

Yeah, I was having that problem yesterday.  Couldn't get logged in to the PSN servers.  Tried rebooting both the PS3 and my router... no luck.  I had an internet connection as I could use the browser to get on the web, just not the servers.  I still don't know exactly why it was happening, but I searched for a fix at the PSN forums and this is what I found....

Needed to go into my network settings..
Setting Methos...... Custom
For me I used wired connection
For operation mode of the network device... Auto-detect
IP address ... Automatic
DHCP host name... Do not set
This is what I had to change...
DNS setting..... Manual
Primary DNS......... 8 8 8 8
Secondary DNS..... 8 8 4 4

MTU ... Automatic
Proxy server... Do not use
UPnP ..... enable

Again I don't really know why I had to do this as I have been using the same setting for the last 3 1/2 years...

I am unsure what the Primary/Secondary DNS settings are for.

But, without my real DNS servers from my ISP; in the past I have  been unable to connect.

I thought the log in problems were from the douchebag hackers, yesterday.
I was getting an in game error yesterday about 5est. When I got back on about 7 or 8, everything was fine.  :-\

I did notice the notification that I was not online before playing Uncharted last night. I thought it was odd that I wasn't logged on.

It's a domain name server. 8,8,8,8 and 8,8,4,4 are the Google DNS. I used to use GTE DNS because it was easy to remember 4,2,2,2 and 4,2,2,3.

Here is some Google explaining why using theirs is gooder.

Don't know if it's gooder, but I couldn't log in the other day without changing to it.  Still don't know why, but as soon as I did it was Feex'd.   :)

I wonder if Google was able to block the IP's where the DDoS attack was comming from.

Haven't looked into too much... but have there really been cyber attacks like I've been trading?  I mean is it confirmed?

I think I will stick with my ISPs (Time Warner) DNS unless forced to change.

Google gathers more than enough info about me already...

I like how they can tell me where my keys are at.

I had the same issue yesterday.  Found the error through google search and it said to power down ps3, then shut off using toggle switch, then unplug the power cable to the ps3.  I then rebooted my modem, plugged in the power cord, turned on the toggle switch and then turned on the ps3.  It was fixed.

The google search I found said it is a power issue, that is only resolved when the ps3 is powered down completely.  Looks like your ways worked as well, so this is only a FYI.   ;D

Interesting and glad that worked.  I did reboot everything, but didn't power down completely.
Why would so many of us have these problems at relatively the same time?  So many strange things happen with Sony and we never get a good explanation as to why. :palm

Saturday morning I awoke way too early. I left my ps3 on as I had been running b-spec online races. So I was going to start another while I was up, but it was a black screen. I did all the power stuff. I held my finger on the power button to reset screen resolution 4 times, on the 5th I even unplugged the HDMI cable and that finally did the trick.

Sunday morning I could sign in to PSN I could access anything in GT5 except for online. I could not access my lounge or veiw online server list. I then rebooted my router and cable modem and PS3. Which pretty much did nothing, it eventually it seemed to fix itself and I was able to join Baked lounge less Baked.

I assumed it was because of the SCEA to SNEA change. It could be sun spots though.

What? They didn't ask you to stand on one leg, touch your finger to your nose, turn left 3 times chanting "I know I can. I know I can." and then spit in an easterly direction? Crap. I think Customer Support was having fun with me.
