I wish that I had the skill to do something like that.  It looks really good.

Thanks guys. The next step will be a learning stage I learned yesterday there is a way to "stain" PVC just about any color you like. Which has several advantages over paint such as won't chip or scratch and won't mess with the dimensional tolerances of the fittings. Getting away from the standard white PVC will make a huge difference in looks as well. Even if I just go with black it would look better. Oh the staining method looks like it won't cost anything extra either if anything may come up a bit cheaper.

yea, black or matte finish would make it look more like a roll cage.

Going back through cockpit now to make sure all tubes match their counterparts to keep everything nice and even. Ordered the black stain over the weekend but it has to be shipped ground so it may take a while. I have been looking at lcd mounts and am considering tilting and even articulating ones. Will post again when I have pics to show updates.

Oh I almost forgot here is a link for those out there looking to build their own rig. Or anyone wanting to partner up and try our hand at becoming video game furniture manufacturers. Either way here is the link.

Dye concentrate came in for making the stain. Three coats of stain changes my white pvc to black. Shiny smooth unscratchable black pvc.

Pyle lcd mount off Amazon for a whopping 83% came in today. It is all coming together.

Pic is of test piece pvc after stain.

Some fresh photos.
First off we have parts.

20130929_115202 by BakedTuna7, on Flickr
Next we have parts become sub assemblies.

20130929_121146 by BakedTuna7, on Flickr
Which become a frame base.

20130929_123028 by BakedTuna7, on Flickr
Lastly a whole frame.

Will have updated pics when seat, steering wheel support and lcd mount are in place.

wow that IS coming together nicely.  The stain is a really nice touch.  Now for that cockpit cover so you can "box" it  8)

Do not believe I box it in entirely. Have some simple plans for privacy screens on either side. Cutting down on distractions makes such a difference in immersion into the game but also my own performance on track.

Updated pic shows floor and lcd mount mentioned in last post plus a steering wheel shelf. Will need to either paint or upholster steering wheel shelf. In truth moust of it will be hidden once steering wheel is attatched.

very nice!

do you possibly have an inventory of pieces needed and general pricing of everything?  I'm curious what it would take to have my father-in-law help me build something similar or identical.

it may take awhile to finance considering I may need to buy a new PS3 now
