New Console, old game save?
« on: October 03, 2013, 07:38:19 AM »

Is there any way to get one's old saved-to-usb GT5 file to work for a new console if the username is the same and PSN ID associated with that account is the same?

Also, does anyone know how to get DLC to work on a new machine after the old one is bunk?

I got the XL edition of GT5 with the new console, but I don't think that includes all of the DLC.

thanks

If you're using the exact same PSN ID then it "should" simply be a case of running the game once to do the initial install / download updates, redownloading the DLC from your Download History and finally copying your save file from USB to console.

I had to do that about a year or more ago when I had a YLOD issue but it was before they really screwed up the PS Store / XMB account options, I remember you could access your Download History directly from the Account section in the XMB but I think now you have to jump through some hoops within the PS Store program itself to get to the same list.

oh good that makes me feel a bit better.

I am starting a new PSN ID but I will use that one to get my content back and then play on the other one.

thanks feld

Your ID will probably have to be deactivated on the old console.

I don't think so.  I had to go through this when my fat 40 gig died for the second time.  There was no way I could deactivate the account.  When I plugged in the new PS3. I signed into my primary dlrws6 account, loaded my prior saves and secondary accounts and kept on going.  Even a few weeks ago just for kicks I reloaded my last back up from the 40 gig and it still works today.

The only issues I had with the change over was the loss of game saves that could not be copied to a USB stick and Assassins Creed 1 gave me a dirty message about being a different user id, but that went away after the first load and save.

I think you'll be ok as long as the id is the same or if your id is on multiple PS3s already you may reach some sort of limit.  :-\

I think what Chrome meant was that if you want to DL the DLC and not pay again you need to deactivate the other machine from that PSN ID.

I did all of the deactivation and activation steps and downloaded everything successfully during lunch today.

New system is up and running with ALL of my old GT5 data so I'm happy about that.

Of course, it sucks that I don't have the hundreds of replays and pictures, but the best pictures were exported into Flikr and hard drives so that's fine.

Replays WOULD have been possible to keep if I hadn't wiped the previous machine as one of my attempts to fix it.  Oh well.  (but even then, doing an export to XMB on each fo them would have taken too long for it to be worth it.)

I still have the memories

THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR HELPING

Only when doing a "clone"...  james_mikel is on all four of my consoles.  Charlie is on two.  key thing is you can only signon to PSN once.

You can restore DLC through account management.  DLC is on all my GT5-playing PS3s through james_mikel.  (when I "cloned" though - old phatty to new slim - I had to deactivate and shit...)

"Special" DLC stuff I had to buy on multiple accounts.  Normal DLC stuff, chromeline fore example, was just re-downloaded to each device.  (i think thru licensing you can download to something like five consoles or something...

Good to know Charlie. The way it looked when I was transferring, I thought I had to do it.
