5/28/11 Event: Demolition Automobile Soccer
« on: May 21, 2011, 01:23:23 PM »

For those that don't know, next Saturday is the Champions League final.  The two best teams in European soccer battle it out for the most prestigious championship in soccer outside of the World Cup.  Barcelona is playing Manchester United.  One of the best teams ever put together versus one of the best managers ever.

To celebrate the "beautiful game" I am planning a "not so beautiful game" or maybe "the downright ugly" game.  That's right, full contact, no holds barred, demolition, automobile soccer.

The rules are simple, the track will be tokyo, the playing field will be the straight after turn one, the ball will be one of the tires pulled out from turn 1.  Cars must be either red (ManU) or blue (Barca, yes I know Barca is actually blue and red).  The red team defends the turn 1 end, the blue team defends the turn 2 end.  whoever scores types the new score in text chat. Example: Red 1 Blue 3.  A goal is counted when the tire crosses the last white line at the end of the straight.  Damage will be set to low.  The car is the 111r from the recommended list.  When you enter the room, try to choose a team to keep the teams even.

Try to keep the tire towards the center of the field.  It can be difficult to get it off of the edges.  I'm planning on running a practice session tonight at 8:30 for anyone interested.

I think this is a great idea...  A tire will be kinda hard to spot with all the cars.  How about using one of those 6-8ft wide "foam" bumpers as a "ball"?

Sometimes you just run right over a tire, the barriers would be a better "target".

We can try the barriers but when I did some preliminary testing a while back, the tire was the only thing that you could really control.  It was easier to drive over and get stuck on the triangular barriers, the big foam barriers didn't work well either, and the cones were useless.

Chrome has some experience with controlling those barriers on Toyko if I remember correctly.

What about using go-karts?

I'm going to hold a practice wednesday at 8:30.

With regular cars you can change direction quickly with the handbrake that doesn't seem to work with go karts.

I'm running a little late.  I'll probably start practice at 8:45 if anyone is interested.

Sorry I missed this, GT11.  A few of us were setting up our FGT's for Friday's Indy 500.

Great game.  Barca won 3-1.

Doesn't sound like there is much interest in demolition auto soccer so I'll delay the event for now.
