We have had the unusual occurrence of a big snow fall followed by cold weather.  Usually after snow, we get rain and all the snow melts.  But this time we had a cold spell after the snow and it has been sticking around.  We have huge piles of snow in our parking lot.  I have to say, there is something satisfying about helping push cars that are stuck in the snow and then jumping in my Subaru and drive through the same snow like it is not even there.

We ended up getting even more snow and ended up buying a snow shovel from Amazon since most of the local stores were out of shovels.  We have not had any snow since the shovel arrived.  Over the past week, we have had a ton of rain and the snow has started to melt away but we still have large piles of snow on the street.  I don't remember ever seeing snow like this in Vancouver.

Gone from snow to smoke.  Apparently this is the worst year for forest fires in 60 years.  All the smoke from the fires is getting funneled down the valleys and into Vancouver and as far as Seattle. The air quality is not great here but up in Kamloops where Forgetful lives the air quality rating was 18 on a scale that is supposed to stop at 10 (way past 11).  The sun going through the smoke gives everything a strange orange pink glow even at mid day.  It is really strange. Besides the air quality, we are safe here; the fires are a long ways away.  My daughter had really bad asthma a couple years ago but doesn't appear to be affected by the smoke (most of the smoke is in the upper atmosphere).

its getting smokey in the usual parts of Indonesia too. They seem to be cracking down on he usual perpetrators (slash and burn to make more palm oil plantations) so hope it won't be as bad as 2015. Thankfully unaffected in this area.
