I expect this to fizzle (outside of coastlines), just like all the other "big storms" that come up the East coast in the winter.

The news stories indicate that it should gain in strength as it moves toward NYC, but it looks as if it is moving inland, a bit, and it hasn't gained much since last night.

Yeah, when I saw it on the radar two days ago, there was no intensity to it even then, and now it has nearly all broken up.

Interestingly, I am reading a novel that takes place in the future about how they can deal with rising carbon levels and the melting polar caps, etc.

Someone just suggests pumping the excess water onto parched land, such as deserts (the energy required to do this was explained...).
I'm not sure what they plan on doing with the salt in the water, but hey, that's one way to raise the in-ground water tables. :laugh

Well now, that was a tease.  Just as Looney said, it fizzled as it came to CT.  It moved enough inland to kill before it got here.  Still fun though, had around 50-60 winds and rain early Sunday morning, but by 3:00pm the sun was out.  :)

Apparently wind did the most damage (Montreal had about 250,000 without electricity) and a few places got some heavy rain.

After the storm was apparently long gone, the real winds that I expected from the "storm" came roaring in Sunday night and knocked my power out all day yesterday.  >:(

So, I had to take the day off. At least it was a nice one.

Well, SW Missouri has been hot and mostly dry over the summer... well if you take out the storm with the Joplin tornado. Some trees are dying, but overall we got off easy compared to the south. Temps this weekend are supposed to cool off into the 70's after about 20 to 25 consecutive weeks with temps above 85 degrees. Woo hoo!
