Yesterday evening, we had a rain storm like no other that I have seen. Two days before Hurricane Hazel, in 1954, I was born. During that storm, Pearson airport had about 120mm of rain dumped on it and the flooding it caused resulted in many deaths. Yesterday, this storm came out of nowhere and dumped 126mm of rain on Pearson, in just a few hours! Needless to say, there was some flooding and power went out here for over six hours because some power transfer points got flooded. A friend still didn't have power this morning.

What I learned from this particular event is that candles produce better light than battery-powered LED garden lights, but the LED lights last longer and are, of course, less dangerous. If you have enough of them, they are quite effective in an emergency. I also learned that a few of my UPS batteries need replacing and we really need a battery-powered radio.

Hurricane Hazel, eh?   I was seven and was stuck inside a 1949 Cadillac Coupe De Ville Convertible, standing on the seats in a low spot on a dual lane highway near my Uncle's house. While my,mom, brother and I stood on the seats, we watched the water come into the car via the doors. My father opened the driver's window and then waded through the water until he got to high ground. He got to my uncle's house nearby and he and my uncle took my uncle's 1952 Chevrolet with a chain and pulled us out of the "pond". My dad dried out the Caddy, had the upholstery re-done and promptly sold the convertible.  The rain hit so hard that areas that never flooded before, did.  Hazel was nasty and brought a lot of water, hail and winds to our community - The Chesapeake Bay....Quite some distance away from you in Canada.   It was a very powerful hurricane.  Thanks for reminding me of that story by posting Hurricane "Hazel"....There has only been one named that in 58 years - guess they didn't want to see another like her,

19 days in a row of rain, with more to come. I've never seen it rain as much as it has this year, especially during July. This month and next are usually our hottest and driest.  :-\

Heat wave. I guess that's better than snow in July.  ::)

If I wanted the hot and humid weather of the past month I would have set camp in Infinituna's back yard.

Enough already. This shit sucks.  >:(

the indonesian weather bureau has advised that this is an unusually wet "dry' season............. no :shit we haven't had more than 2 days in a row without rain since "dry" season started in april. Also....97% humidity is the norm @ about 28C

Indonesia won't need a rising ocean to cause problems. At that rate, it has its own rising tide falling on it.

I think you will have better weather than me this week, especially on Friday as we near 100 with dewpoints in the mid 70's.  :(

Today will probably be the hottest day this week/year, so far. Well before noon, it was already 34°C in the shade. Humidity will bump that up considerably. The A/C is on, but it is struggling to keep up with it.

Take care out there guys and drink lots of fluids if you are in this stuff, too.

Summer has finally arrived in Indiana.  Mid-90s all week...it hasn't been this hot since March.

We've had highs in the 70's and 80's the last couple days here in Texas. Just plain weird.

It looks as if our air conditioner died (or needs maintenance).
