Yes Doc, it is really really bad out here right now.  3 straight weeks of 90+ degree weather.  We haven't had rain here since late May.  Everything is tinder dry.
We are a state that allows fireworks.  Huge fireworks- mortars, 36 shot finally boxes, etc. basically military grade explosives.  This is going to be a very bad year for the fire dept.

Also, as a reminder.   Not everyone loves fireworks.  Consider pets, the elderly and veterans if you partake in blowing shit up.

It has been years since we have gone out for fireworks due to wanting to be at home for our pets.

We managed to get a little rain on Sunday night but the only thing that it managed to do was knock out the power.  It gave me a good excuse to go out for breakfast.

Also can't go out for lunch because other peoples religion got all the eating places closed till late afternoon

Overcast skies today not because of clouds but because of forest fire smoke.  The sun has a red hue from the smoke.  I can even smell the smoke inside my house.

It is horrible Doc.  I hope you are far from the fires!
38 days of no rain and temps above 90 degrees.  They say Friday we'll have a cold streak coming.  Down to 85. :adam:
We had a 10-15 acre wild fire about a 1/2 mile from my home on Saturday. Like you, I could smell the smoke and it was raining ash.  It is quite scary.  Fire can travel so damn fast.  I also experienced that odd red/orange glow of the sky you experienced.  What a weird way to look at the world.

Thing is, we aren't even close to the fires.  We're just getting their smoke.  Here is a satellite showing how much smoke was coming from at least one of the fires.  The Vancouver and the Lower Mainland is the light green coloured area just to the right of the smoke so this was taken just as we started getting hit with the smoke.  It looks like over a third of Vancouver island is covered in smoke.

As hot as it's been here, every shirt I wear is a sweat shirt.

We're regularly seeing 100-102* temps, and it hasn't got hot yet. By August people will be bursting into flames.
