Removing your game save can let you play GT5 again. I backed up my game save on two drives and I can now play. (I don't know what would happen if I restored my game save) So I have a garage of DLC cars. Whatever. If I really need a car I'll use my old account.

Does an old back-up file not let you continue from its save-point?

I haven't tried restoring an old file. I have a game save that's probably a few weeks old...or a few months...and the ones I copied yesterday.

I got online at level 0 last night...did a 500PP FR seasonal at HSR in the newest vette, and was able to go shopping for an S2000.

I didn't write it, I just posted the link as a possible fix. Starting a new game is an option too. I actually enjoyed starting over. Of course that was over a year ago and may not be as fun now. :)

I sort of did this about 15 months ago, but not on purpose.  After a night of several really good beers, I went to save my data to a flash drive and didn't pay attention or couldn't read and restored the shit from the flash drive to the PS3.  I went from October 2011 to December 2010.

Mental note--don't do a game save after drinking.

That's quite a process. Not sure I'll have time between now and Caterham series openers, so I might run as STVM_TurboTuna until I get around to fixing it. I do know that I have one problem car in my garage, so I believe these people are on the right track.,

Changed my mind. I went through that process and deleted my glitchy car. I'm now updating to 2.10 to see if the fix is permanent.

Yes, I had to get dlc activation from PS store, and I had to try twice to start the game, but it works.

I've had to restart GT5 a few times in the past few months, too. It gets up to the logo and goes no further, so I quit and restart, then it works.

Not very reassuring.

I have not had to restart and the only time I have a slow GT5 logo is when ET can't phone home.
