I could be wrong since I haven't read up / watched anything about the David Coulthard / Mercedes event itself (beyond the basic seasonal thing in the game) but I believe for this challenge (at least in the seasonal event) they're timing a rolling lap as opposed to the standing start they use for the Top Gear Powerboard laptimes.

Are we talking about Coulthard or the guy who won?  Remember it was a 15min time trial with the best lap winning.  Coulthard's best lap was pretty early, he ended up overheating the brakes or tires or something because he had to run a few slow laps to cool things down.  Never did get back up to speed.  Later in the race it started to rain so he spun out at the end.

A new seasonal is up...
Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Top Gear Test Track Time Trial.
No prizes as far as I can see.  Just a chance to beat David Coulthard's and get on the online leader board.

Just looked at the leader board...
clacksman (aka Radio) is 4th  :)

Until people find out that they can cut Chicago.  :-X

I won't be able to turn on the PS3 until later, but I presume from what you said that there are regional leader boards.

clacks is down to 6th ...  :(

MGT the leader boards are locked on all regions... No separate regions available.
edit ... Though upon further inspection, it looks like it could be a western hemisphere thing, a lot from the US and Canada and none from Europe.

The game screwed me out of the silver prize money, and only paid me for bronze. I ran a 1:19.536, so silver is grayed out, but no credits for it.  I won't be getting gold. :P

OCD update
Think Mercedes, all but six of the cars are exactly that.  Not surprising considering the special seasonal event.

The Mercedes run from the Sauber Mercedes C9 Race car '89 going for 2,675,000 down to the A 160 Avantgarde '98 for 16,510

The six Non-Mercedes:

                                                                 CR
Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie Hemi Quad Cab '04 ... 18,965
Mazda BP Falken RX-7 '03 ........................... 100,000
Blitz ER34 D1 Spec '04 ...............................  100,000
HKS Genki Hyper Silvia RS2 '04 ....................  100,000
BMW M3 GTR Race Car '01 .........................   500,000
... and of course the obligatory FGT ............   2,500,000

There also is a new TT and DT up.

Time Trials:

Madrid City (Mini) In FF cars at 295hp or less and 800kg or higher on comfort soft or less.

Drift Trials

Daytona Road and is open to any car with comfort soft tires or less

CÔte d'Azur and is the same as Daytona

You can receive these only once.

Not sure how many credits are awarded as it doesn't show and I haven't ran them yet.

Did the new time and drift trials replace the ones there just there the other day, or are there 2 of each now?
